Using this tripod dolly was a useful solution for us for a couple reasons - it added stability to an inexpensive tripod and also gave our set-up easier mobility, even on some carpets. Using a heavier cam (Canon XHA1 with wide angle attachment), the tripod dolly gives us a little more feeling of security moving the cam around in a room and between rooms. We haven't shot footage while rolling on this tripod dolly yet, so I cannot report on that.

I think that this dolly is more suited for moving around the video camera when it is off. The wheels were pretty cheaply molded when it arrived, so we had to spend some time grinding down the wheels. After that, it was still relatively bumpy to roll it around. When you start rolling the tripod the wheels spin around to their preferred position, making spur of the moment moves pretty difficult. This is good if you have to move the tripod around a lot, and don't feel like picking it up and carrying it.
It is also a good start to building your own track dolly. The wheels are easy to remove, and directions are on line.

No assembly to speak about; one just places the tripod into the dolly's arms, tighten thumb screws, and you're done. Wheels are large and well made. Absolutely rigid. Folds up and even provides a handle and case.
Bought one and tried it out; I've just bought my second one.

Comments about Smith-Victor Tripod Dolly A Universal Fit Heavy Duty Aluminum Dolly:
I received the dollies right before a big shoot of a high school reunion. They were very simple to set up and we were able to get some rolling shots of the graduating class of 1971. I believe this product was well worth the money paid. The only down fall, if there is one at all, is that the wheels need to be a little bigger. While we were on hard flooring, I think rolling them on carpet will be a little more challanging. And did I mention they come with their own carrying case. Nice touch.

I used this for a few scenes in a music video i filmed. Plan on using it much more.
This was great with simple panning, great solution to tracking by hand. Comes with a carrying case, easy to set up and put away.
A little difficult to get my tripod on without some assistance. Don't put your camera on first, make sure you have your tripod secured to the dolly and then put your camera on.
I wouldn't use it around chairs and restrained spaces, might find yourself bumping into things easily. And don't use it while going over bumpy sidewalks and such.

I use it with my tripod for my Panasonic DVX100 Video camera, it's incredibly sturdy and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Huge sturdy casters glide effortlessly on a hard floor or even on a carpeted one (but don't ask me about shag lol) For the price it can't be beat.

Quick to set up, smooth rolling.
I use this with my Manfrotto 028B studio tripod.
Clamps the feet properly. Wheels lock easily.
Careful rolling thru doorways, no padded edges (nor can you pad them properly).
Good value.

I purchased this dolly for my studio, but took it with me on a commercial assignment. In the studio, it's awesome. Love the ability to lock and unlock the wheels when needed. On the road, love how it folded down, so I could put it in my luggage. The dolly also came with a storage bag which is nice as well.

Comments about Smith-Victor Tripod Dolly A Universal Fit Heavy Duty Aluminum Dolly:
The overall construction and portability are nice but they really botched a great design with lousy wheels! I literally could not film and move at the same time because the wheels are so uneven that the dolly is very bumpy, even on smooth surfaces. You get what you pay for sometimes and unfortunately that’s the case with this dolly.

I am very proud of this Dolly, it met my expectations and more. It has smooth big tires, durable fixtures, and made me look like a very professional videographer which had other video takers moving out of my way letting me do my job. I don't know about other brands but 2 thumbs up for this one.
