Tele Vue eyepieces come in several variations and focal lengths to match your particular preferences amongst the variables of size, weight, price, eye relief and apparent field of view.  They're universally applauded by both amateur and professional astronomers alike, and hold their resale value incredibly well.

The Plossl 8.0mm eyepiece is a venerable "entry level" classic of the Tele Vue eyepiece collection.  It is characterized by having a supersharp, relatively narrow 50° apparent field of view with sufficient eye relief.  It is lightweight for its focal length and ideally suited for work in Tele Vue's Bino Vue Stereo Binocular Viewer.

Comments about Tele Vue Plossl 8mm Eyepiece (1.25"):

I bought this simple plossl to replace a fancy 7 lens 8mm eyepiece that was heavy and hard to use comfortably. The Tele Vue 8mm has a 6 mm eye relief and gives me a 1.6 mm exit pupil, which makes viewing comfortable. The 7 lens ED unit required my eye to be exactly in the right place or beaning would occur instantly. The Tele Vue is light, easy to handle and easy to see through. I gave it 4 stars only because the view through it is less bright than through my other 8mm.

Comments about Tele Vue Plossl 8mm Eyepiece (1.25"):

This is my first Tele Vue eyepiece. I purchased it because I wanted a good quality medium/high power eyepiece for Lunar and Planetary viewing. My first impression was that the fit and finish is excellent. It's just a bit smoother and more precise than many of my other eyepieces. It has a very high quality look and feel.I used it on a night of decent seeing and transparency in my 98mm refractor. It showed excellent sharpness and contrast on the moon. The Cassini division was very distinct on Saturn, as was the planet's shadow on the rings. It carries with it the usual plossl caveats, relatively narrow field of view (vs. the widefield eyepieces that flood the market these days) and short eye relief. It is very good at what it does and the fit/finish and optical quality is very good. The cap for the end with the eye-cup only fits with the eye cup raised. With the eye cup folded back the cap doesn't fit over the rolled up rubber eye cup. After some use when you unfold the eye cup it's usually stretched just a bit from being folded and it's a bit fiddly to get the cap back over it in the dark, but it's a really nit-picky problem. Definitely recommended.
