Product Highlights
  • Designed for CS-1 and Similar Microphones

The Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (10) expand the diameter of the Sanken CS-1 shotgun mic, allowing it to fit inside the larger clamp-style mounts on high-end video cameras. Since the CS-1 is a relatively small shotgun mic, and the size of shotguns and camera clamp mounts are not standardized, the ROCS let you mount your CS-1 and other similarly-sized shotgun mics in most camera clamp-style mic mounts.

I bought a Sony HXRMC2000U and replaced the microphone with a RODE NTG-2 mic. The RODE is a smaller diameter mic than the one that comes with the MC2000U, the ROCS Rubber O-Rings by Sanken slipped securely over the RODE Mic and made the mic fit tightly in the Sony Microphone holder. I also bought the Beachtek DXA-SLR PRO XLR Adapter for the RODE mic to plug into. I also plug my Sony UWP-V1 into the second XLR connection and can run the RODE and the Sony lav at the same time, capturing the ambient noise with the RODE and the voice with the Sony Lav.

Bought these because I had seen a web post somewhere that they would work with a Rode NTG-3 and a Canon C100. They fit the Rode fine but don't expand the diameter enough to fit the C100's mic clamp. Also they're a bit overpriced when you consider you can pick up a bag for two dollars at the hardware store.

This solution is so obvious i am amazed I did not think about it earlier (or read the recommendations from B&H). I use these rings to hold my NTG2 in place on a Sony Camcorder and it sits nice and tight.

Comments about Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (10):

When the shock mount for the shotgun on my ENG video camera lost a rubber part, I began using rubber bands to insulate the mic. But they did not hold the mic parallel and they looked cheap and slipshod. I went in to buy another rubber block like the one I lost, and the salesman showed me these bands. I was a bit skeptical, but once I tried them, I see how splendidly they hold the mic and insulate it as well. Plus, I can leave them on the Mic all the time as they don't take up much space.

Comments about Sanken ROCS Rubber O-Rings for CS-1 (10):

The ring works better than stuffing a paper wedge into the microphone mount, but it can be awkward to attach and remove quickly. Ideally all mike mounts should be equipped with a built-in diameter control. But these O-rings appear to be the next best thing to keep a shotgun firmly affixed to the camera,

I use a couple of these with microphones on my Canon XA-10 Camcorder. It makes the mic fit snugly in the mic holder, and doesn't transmit any camera noise.

Nicely recommended by B&H sales specialist. the mic would never be stable on my Canon EOS C100 without the rings. I put 3 rings on the NTG2 and placed it in the mic holder of the camera.

I bought these rings because the shotgun mount that came with my Sony Z7U has a larger diameter than my Sennheiser shotgun mic.

The rubber rings do the job - though you have to line them up properly, which slows you down in the field.

Bottom line: it's irritating that they were necessary at all. Sony should have provided a rubber sleeve or something to fit the narrower diameter of a great number of shotgun mics on the market.

In fact, the mini-shotgun that comes with the camera has exactly this kind of sleeve, but it is glued to the mic so you can't use it with other mics.
