The EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens from Canon is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens with dynamic expressive capability and a lightweight build for all EF-S mount digital EOS cameras.

With an effective focal length range of approximately 16-35mm in 35mm format, this lens allows you to get extremely close to subjects, exaggerating the difference in size between a near object and its background. Creative photographers can use this phenomenon to create excellent separation between subject and background for a strong sense of presence, or for a pan-focus effect with everything from foreground to background sharply in focus. An Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides fast, smooth and quiet autofocus action and manual focus override in the One Shot AF mode enables precise focusing at all times.

Designed specifically for digital photography with APS-C size sensors, the lens has three aspherical and one Ultra-low Dispersion elements to minimize aberrations and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off digital camera sensors. An optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare.

Uses optics designed to take full advantage of the small APS-C image circle and short back focus in EF-S lenses. Offers the 35mm focal length equivalent of 16-35mm.
Features three aspherical lens elements (two types) as well as a Super-UD glass element for minimized aberration high image quality at all focal lengths.
Optimized lens coating minimizing flare and ghosting prone to occur with digital cameras.
Ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides ultra-quiet, super-fast, precision auto focusing and predictive tracking.
Circular aperture diaphragm produces brilliant out-of-focus characteristics.

This is a high quality lens. Auto focus is very fast, accurate and quiet. I have used similar Sigma lenses and have returned them due to inaccurate/slow/loud auto focus. The 22mm side is actually very useful. The colors are vibrant, and details are sharp. You will get some vignetting but that is easily fixed. Buy this lens and you won't regret it. I have had 2 copies of this lens. The first was excellent in its color rendition/quality. The second was so-so in both of these categories. For nearly $900 this thing should be built like a tank, but it is a flimsy joke compared to an L quality lens. I have a 24-70 f/2.8 which is ultra-sharp and built like a tank ... and I got my second 10-22mm along with it ... and the difference in quality/craftsmanship just made me sick. If this was a $500-650 lens, I could see it. But to charge nearly $900 for a lens that is a plasticky-feeling lens next to an "L" level lens is just wrong. The price is NOT B&H's fault, but Canon's. This lens can produce nice images (at least my first copy did), but the build quality is a joke at this price point. If the price was $300 less, it would make sense, but at nearly $900 I would personally just save a few cheese more and just buy a true "L" lens.

Photography is a fairly new hobby for me but I can tell you that this lens is awesome! Can't wait to use it at Grand Canyon next year which is the primary reason I purchased it... Used it at a sunflower maze recently and the pics are gorgeous!

I'm using this lens on a 70D to do real estate photography.
I love how little distortion this lens produces (the type that makes walls look curved).
I do wish the lens created crisper images though. I've read that this lens is supposed to be a good as the EF L lenses, but not the one I got.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

This lens DOES NOT have image stabilization, so its uses for landscapes and street photography is poor unless you use a tripod. I have yet to use it for anything darker than a partially lit room but so far I cant imagine the quality in darker places to very good as it is only a F3.5-4.5. As it is a 650.00 lens, its clearly not an L series, so you will not get the best of the best quality.
The build quality is much better than my first and even second lens. I love the metal mount and the build quality. In conclusion , it makes a wonderful beginner lens upgrade for landscapes, street photography and structural photography. Due to the fact that this lens at its price range doesn't have image stabilization I gave this 4 stars rather than 5.

This is an excellent wide angle lens for a crop sensor camera. I purchased this lens for real estate photography and it works exactly as I expected it to. Pictures are clear, sharp and have minimal distortion even at 10mm. The distortion is easily fixable using Lightroom or Photoshop. I was surprised at how close you can get to objects with this lens and still be able to focus. Great value and a great wide angle lens for crop sensors!

This is a great lens. It will be handy for those shots where you cannot back up far enough to capture the entire scene you're hoping to get. For landscapes and architecture. I've taken some practice shots and am now really excited about taking photos in Italy, Greece and Turkey! It is lightweight and very easy to use.

You know what they say! Buy Canon lenses and you'll have them forever. Well, I've had several enthusiasts tell me this. I'm a beginner
Through and through. What ever you do get a Canon. But most of all get a Canon lens you won't be sorry. Thet last forever and the quality is
The best. So far, I haven't been a bit sorry. I've been slowly ramping up my gear. So e of the pro stuff is expensive, but well worth it. You get what you pay for. If you plan on upgrading your body, make sure you can bring your lenses along. This friend was wrong about that. I just me a neighbor who is also an enthusiast. Ge just made the jump to the pro series. He gave away all his lenses. Ever seen a grown woman cry over something silly? Now, I have your attention. This lens is awesome. Get one for your collection. Multi-functional, great quality!

I almost didn't get this because I've been going with L lenses for the past few years but I've been pleasantly surprised by this lens. I have a 7D and wanted to start shooting real estate interiors. The 10-22 gives me 16-35 which works great indoors and compliments my 24-105 nicely. Quality is great. The only thing missing is the red ring.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens:

This is a great lens for land/cityscape photography. It's ultra wide angle so you really get a lot into a shot. This lens gives great clarity with the minor exception of slight softening at the very corners at 10mm. Pictures, however, come out very vibrant.
This Lens is light weight and quite functional. I recommend this lens if you want great wide angle shots and don't want to spend the big $$$$ for an L lens.

I purchased this to use primarily on interiors for real estate photography but also occasionally to shoot landscapes. It's been a fantastic lens for both :).
