Comments about Audio-Technica Pro 24 Stereo Condenser Microphone:

An external mic is a must for any video shooting situation, and this one does the job within its limits. I bought it to use with my Canon HF S21 for shooting one and two-person interviews. It works fine for this with a few caveats:

        1. As always, you need to get it as close to the subject(s) as possible. Since the mic's output level is pretty low, this is especially important.

        2. The mic is very sensitive to shock and vibration. Apparently, there's no internal shock mounting for the capsules. This means you won't want to use it "hand-held" because of handling noise. Even when used on a tabletop stand, even the slightest taps on the table produced audible "thuds" in the audio. I found it worked best if not put on a stand, but just laid on the table on top of the nice little foam pouch that comes with it. I also found it worked great with an external shock mount, but that makes it a lot larger and more conspicuous.

        3. Since it's a stereo mic, it's important that it's oriented with the power switch at the top. This ensures the left and right capsules are pointed in the correct direction. (Hint: if you mix the two stereo channels to monaural when editing, the mic becomes more directional and works like a mini-shotgun.)

        4. The mic's cord is short--about 5 feet. You'll need a stereo 1/8-inch extension cord for most shooting situations.

        5. It uses an LR-44 "button" battery. I would have preferred a more readily available battery, such as a AAA. Be sure you have a spare!

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro 24 Stereo Condenser Microphone:

I bought this for my Canon Elura 100 camcorder to prevent the hum from the camera's mechanics making it onto tape. I haven't been disappointed. I have used it to record audio at concerts, baseball games, ambient outdoor sounds in the forest, etc. The sound is excellent. I also use the Pro 24 with my Zoom H2 recorder to do post-game interviews for the Senior League Baseball World Series Web site. The sound is crisp and clear.

Nice look but very low output. I tried with Edirol R09 and Sony PCM-D50. Impossible to make records without noise because I must set mic gain to MAX
