The Audio-Technica Pro 37 is a small-diaphragm, cardioid condenser microphone designed for capturing instruments and vocals in professional recording and sound reinforcement applications. The cardioid element features a low-mass design resulting in optimum Sound Pressure Level (SPL) handling. The result is accurate reproduction of dynamic signal sources such as drums and percussion, without noise and distortion. The cardioid polar pattern effectively minimizes noise at the off-axis sections of the microphone capsule, reducing feedback and ambiance. The low profile of the Pro 37 enables flexible placement and positioning. The Pro 37 is an excellent option for capturing, guitars, overheads, piano, group vocals and X/Y style stereo capturing when used in tandem.

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro 37 Condenser Microphone:

I use pro37 for the situations such as recording a big jazz band where each player needs a microphone. I also use this microphone for recording strings and vocals in addition to for horns and drums. In another words, this is an all round microphone. I currently have 7 of this microphone. I will buy more of pro37 as the number of channels of my recorder increases.

Goods: 1; Not much colored frequency response. I mix with Earthworks SR20s when I need a larger number of microphones. Sounds from both microphones are nearly undistinguishable in many cases. 2. Good off axis frequency response. 3. Not conspicuous at live recordings. 4. Low cost

Negatives: 1. Higher noise floor. This microphone is not usable at distant positions like tens of feet away. But, at proximity positions like within a few feet from the sound source, the microphone noises are not audible in most cases. 2. No brand name value - not usable for people who love Neumann.

We are using them in our church for miking a piano, podium and using them for our bass singer. Have used them for years and have never had a problem with any of them.

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro 37 Condenser Microphone:

We now have four Audio-Technica Pro 37's. They are used in a house of worship setting for instruments, two on the piano and two that rotate picking up the bell choir and occasionally micing other instruments such as guitars and cellos. On occasion they have even been used for voice. We find the Pro 37 to be a versatile condenser microphone that has never let us down. I really can't find anything negative to report. Over all a great small microphone to have in your stable.

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro 37 Condenser Microphone:

I heard about this mic from reading interviews with recording engineers in TapeOp mag. It seemed to be a well regarded "secret weapon" so I was intrigued enough to buy one. The price is certainly great. I tested this mic running through a FWRAudio RNP (pre) & RNC (comp) combo via a MOTU 828 then into GarageBand. It was up against my German Sennheiser e614 and my Russian Oktava MK_012-01, both similar mics. The Pro 37 is very small and light, but seemed ultra high quality. I tested it on acoustic guitar and also voice. I thought it sounded wonderful! It had as much detail as the Oktava, but more bass response; a richer, fuller sound. The AT had more warmth than the Senn, which is also detailed, but a slightly "dull" mic. So I am pleased, certainly for the money! I plan on using the Pro37 on the 12th fret neck position recording acoustic, w/ the Oktava on the body. I've read the Pro37 is also killer on guitar cabs for electrics too, so I'll be trying that soon.

I use this microphone to record my acoustic guitar, as well as for micing my half stack to get exactly the sound I want. It sounds great, has a crisp quality to it, and I've heard of others using this for overhead micing on drums. If you do this use the xy pattern to eliminate phase cancellation, and your mix will sound better. For this price, it is a great stocking stuffer.

I bought 2 of these pencil condensers as a stereo pair. I have tried them out on acoustic guitar and they sound great. I am waiting to to try them out as overheads for recording drums. I did use one to record harmony vocals and was surprised at how good it sounded. Good stuff.
