      Comments about BlueBird Cardioid Condenser:

I bought this from BH after listening closely to one of those "microphone shootouts" on YouTube, in which I thought the Bluebird sounded better than anything in its price range (there were two mikes I liked slightly more, but they were 2 to 3 times the Bluebird's price). I did my own testing when the Bluebird arrived, comparing it on my voice to an SE Electronics 2200a and an Audio Technica AT2035. I had the same result: the Bluebird sounded more natural and open, and I'll be using it for my most of my own vocals from now on. There are a couple of things I don't like: I thought the included pop filter gave a subtle coloration to the sound, or perhaps, it caused me to change something about the mike's positioning in some way. So I ordered Blue's universal pop filter, and I've had better results using that instead. I'm also not crazy about Blue's included shock mount, for the same reason another reviewer noted: I have to twist the thumb screw very tight for it to hold the mike steady and not suddenly flop down. One more thing about the Bluebird: As the owners manual explains, the sound is greatly affected by the angle at which you place your mouth it relation to its capsule. I'm not talking just about one's distance from the mike and the normal proximity effect; other tonal characteristics of the Bluebird change, based on a slight shift in the angle of the mike's placement. This is good because it allows me to "fine tune" the sound for my own voice or a particular song, just by moving things a bit. But it also means the vocalist and/or engineer has to be aware of this factor, or they might not get the result they're looking for. I own a number of mikes in the $200 - $300 price range from Rode (NT1), Shure (C3000B) and others, in addition to those already mentioned. This is the best one yet, at least for my purposes.

Best mic around for $300 bucks!

      By CashCaine

      Comments about BlueBird Cardioid Condenser:

This is one of the cleanest, crisp, and warmest mics around. I can only imagine how great the [$] Blue Bottle sounds. I use this mic for my vocals and it sounds absolutely great. I haven't even ran it through any Tube pre amp and/or limiter/compressor yet and it still sounds good. If $300 is your price range for a mic I would definitely recommend buying the Bluebird.

      Comments about BlueBird Cardioid Condenser:

This is a very nice mic bought at B&H the best price on the web or anywhere I could find. It works equally well with vocals and instrument recording. The only hassle with the product is that the wing nut locking the shock mount doesn't do that great of a job holding the mic in place. Sagging is the problem. Other than that, the Bluebird is great for the home and professional recording engineer and musician. It is frequently mentioned in musician magazines for instrument recording and for providing a lot of bang-for-the-buck. Some people feel the mic "colors" the sound a bit, but the effect has been noted as being not unpleasant.

        Comments about BlueBird Cardioid Condenser:

There are some mics that you just won't ever regret purchasing whether it's because they're THAT GOOD, or they're THAT GOOD FOR THE MONEY. This is one of the mics that is just THAT GOOD FOR THE MONEY.

This is often the first mic I'll grab when feeling out some vox or want a condenser on a guitar cab that really grabs the tone without any wash. It's smooth, even, and doesn't over-color your tone.

Buy it! You will not regret it. I've produced over 40 albums and have purchased several hundred thousand dollars worth of vintage and high-end equipment in the last 10 years, and I still enjoy using this mic.

Want to know what isn't great about it? Occasionally the shockmount slips if you don't give it a decent crank. And obviously it's not a Neumann, Manley or Bock, so don't expect it to sound that good. Just love it for what it is. A fantastic mid-level mic that won't disappoint.

            This microphone makes beautiful sounds.
As subjective as that opinion is, I suppose I haven't told you much.
I use it for vocals, voice-overs, and Foley work.
I wish the shock cage thingy was nicer, but these Blue mics seem to suffer in that area. That's OK by me, because the microphone is so nice. Maybe The Blue People put all the cost into the mic and not the shock cage or the spit screen. That is also a bit inadequate, being a bit smallish diameter. It is pretty, though, so I just put my old screen in front of it, and I am OK.

              Comments about BlueBird Cardioid Condenser:

I have to agree with most of the reviewers of this product. Sound is awesome, but the bird cage tightening mechanism is not all that great. The thumbscrew broke on one mic about two minutes after I opened the box. Looks like it was soldered together. I called Blue and they seemed to be aware of the problem and immediately sent me two new redesigned thumbscrews (I bought two of these mics). I've recorded voices and acoustic pianos with these and the sound is terrific. The overall build quality is good and they do look cool.

I produce recorded books for a Library I work for. We've been happy with our previous microphone, but we're always looking to do better. I don't know how much better we can get than this microphone!

Great sensitivity allow us to get a decent working distance from the mic. Voices have a real presence to them, like you are talking right into someone's ear. Outstanding midrange, good lows and the highs are clean without carrying over into the brittle range. What more can you ask for?

I've read complaints about the shock mount, but I have none. Maybe I've not owned it long enough. The pop filter is a nice plus, but I would not make a buying decision solely on that feature. Look, and listen, to the entire package.

                Tough to beat the quality!

The microphone sounds great, so far i've tried it recording acoustic guitar and vocals, and I'm very pleased with the results.

On the other side, I'm not so pleased with the so called "Birdnest" (shock mount). It won't stay firmly in position because the thumbscrew is poorly designed in relation to the weight of the microphone. I read reviews complaining about it before i bought it, so it didn't turn out to be a surprise. Adding to that, one of the rubber bands that comes as part of the shock mount came broken.

Used to record male rock vocals at home studio. Also record Acoustic guitar and Harmonica ala folk singer songwriter type setup. Very versatile. Got 4 stars rather than 5 because of price, and the fit of the windscreen is a weak spot. And the pivot mount of the shockmount to the mic-stand can sometimes let go and the mic will swing down hard. Solution is to mount the mic upside down and let gravity help. Not ideal but works.

It is outrageously sensitive yet with a dynamic response that means I haven't had the feedback issues or background noise issues I've had with other microphones. Just make sure you get a cable with an off switch, it's a handy little thing.
