Compared to other types of tape, gaffer's tape is useful for binding things in a non-permanent way. The tape is supposed to be non-reflective (great for photographic applications) and removable with no residue. In the latter area, this particular brand of gaffer's tape does a fine job. The adhesive isn't as strong as some other no-name brands I've used, but it leaves no residue. On the other hand, to the first issue of the tape being non-reflective, this brand doesn't quite fit the bill. The tape is a very dark shade of gray, which is good, but it has something of a sheen to it--that is to say it reflects even the very weak light of my CFL Medusa-lamp. For that flaw, I wouldn't call this product perfect, but it is definitely adequate for most photographic applications. Just make sure the tape isn't placed on a surface inclined to reflect the light source straight back at the lens. I haven't tried it yet (camera is in for repair), but I suspect this would generate flare.
To be expected, don't plan to just throw this roll in your camera bag. 50yds is a lot of tape, and a full roll measures over 6" in circumference.

I put the tape down on my flashes before I put on velcro just in case i ever want to remove the velcro. Works good for that but not as "sticky" as I hoped. I would be concerned with using it to attach moderately heavy things. Its no where near as strong as duct tape...but it doesn't leave any residue either.

Tears easily, and a bit stiffer than other gaff tape I've used. Would buy again but it's expensive.

I needed gaffers tape to attach my gels to my flashes. I wanted gaffers tape that would not leave and residue when removed. When I bought the tape online I had my reservations but those were gone once I started using it. It's a great value if you only need gaffers tape every now and then.

It's gaffer's tape. The real stuff. Yes, it costs more, but it's infinitely worth it. I've used it for years and unless it's baked on, it'll still remove after two or three years with no residue. I keep strips taped to the outside of my hard cases for easy access and find the strips still come off and are useful… even after four years (your mileage may vary).

i bought this to use on my holga to block light leaks... it kept out the light really well. also, the tiny piece of tape i used to cover the little window on the back lasted through almost two weeks of my constantly peeling it back to wind the film. only downside is that this roll is HUGE and defintely not something you'd want to carry around. just re-roll a little bit onto a spool or something! this is a great product and will last me a while!

I use the [...] general purpose gaffer's tape for holding reflectors, diffusion material, cords, grids, flags and just about anything that calls for a medium tough adhesive tape. I particularly use the black tape to reduce reflections from bright surfaces like chrome-plated objects. The [...]gaffer's tape is well made and the edges rarely fray.
