The ExpoDisc Neutral White Balance Filter allows digital photographers to quickly and easily set an accurate custom white balance. Each ExpoDisc is individually assembled, calibrated and certified for neutrality in the visible spectrum, and for 18% light transmission. The ExpoDisc can be used on-the-fly to set a white balance in-camera when shooting JPEG, or later in post production when shooting RAW. Using an ExpoDisc to set a custom white balance results in consistently balanced color and eliminates many of the yellow, red and blue color casts commonly seen in digital photography. The ExpoDisc is easy to use. Setting a white balance with the ExpoDisc eliminates many of the inconsistencies and inconveniences associated with using white balance cards and targets, including unwieldy size, unwanted reflectivity, improper angling, and shadows. To set a white balance with an ExpoDisc, simply take a photograph of the light source (incident light) through the ExpoDisc, then follow your camera's instructions to set the camera's custom white balance. Because the ExpoDisc is calibrated for an 18% light transmission, you can also use it as a reference tool for manually determining proper exposure. The ExpoDisc is available in a variety of sizes to fit most popular lenses. The ExpoDisc does not thread into the lens; instead, its quick mount design can be pushed-on and popped-off to facilitate a quick white balance. ExpoDiscs do not screw in. They lack front threads and were designed to be pushed-on over the lens threads in order to facilitate a quick white balance.

Very easy to use. They should make a universal one with different filter sizes because it is way too expensive. I consider this an essential tool now. Manual/custom WB is the way to go! Saves a lot of time in post.

A great product for precise WB results. I used it on a recent vacation and found that it was quick and easy to use. However.... I found it is impractical to use when you are moving to different lighting situations during the day. 5 shots here, 8 shots there, 2 shots at the next place. I lost track of each WB for what place I had taken last.
It best used in a place where you will be taking 10 to 20 shots of a scene and then never return.
In the environment I was shooting in, I was continuously returning to the same place and taking photos from a different angle.
Shooting like I was (RAW and JPEG) I was better off doing the WB correction on the RAW photos back at home on the computer.
Do not short change this product. It is great. Just think ahead of how you will use it. I will use it many times in the future. Just remember to put your camera back on Auto Focus when you lock in the image you are using as the WB reference and then do rapid shooting.

I shoot indoor events under a lot of mixed lighting. I shoot mostly in "Camera RAW". By taking a sample exposure photo at the beginning of my shoot I can pinpoint the white balance and eliminate hours of post processing in the computer. I have eliminated post exposure work by at least 90-95%. I highly suggest this product for all photographers, advanced or beginner.

When my expodisc arrived I barely flipped through the manual and started using it. It was so easy to figure out and worked perfectly from the first try. I started out doing test shots of the same person in the same spot with the same exposure, changing nothing but white balance settings and then using the expodisc to set the custom white balance. It only took seconds and the difference was clear. After just that few minutes of practice I went ahead and used it on a paying client shoot and it didn't slow me down, worked kust like it said it would and got amazing results. I am so happy I bought this! Worth every penny and I would definitely recommend it. (It's important to note that I am not super technical, it usually takes me some time to get used to gear. I am also super cheap and rarely buy new equipment so having no regrets at all is a pretty big deal)

I have always used some sort of white balanced lens cap.I love how my images come out doing so.
I have seen the ExpoDisc for years and was hard pressed to get it due to price. But after some consideration and a little extra money I went ahead and purchased one. Wow what a better quality of in camera image over a plain old WB cap. Colors are spot on images are more defined over all happy I paid the extra to have a better quailty product and outcome. I highly recommend getting one.

This is amust have for protrait or wedding photgraphers. Specially if your one who likes to shoot quickly and do very little editing later. It is very easy to use and you can make adjustments on the fly. I do however recomend you practice in all conditions before a paid shoot. As it will take a little getting used to. However once your used to it - you wont shoot without it.

The use is as simple as described in the manual. The advantage is that sometimes it is hard to guess which of the camera pre-set WB settings one should select. I particularly found shade and cloudy settings a bit hard to chose from.. Whit WB filter all my doubts are gone. I love the colors after I set my custom WB. This product changed how I think and how I take the photos.

I used it at a reception in a cathedral's dark paneled library with incandescent lights, windows on three sides reflecting green light from the trees and shrubbery into the room, and flash with a warming filter bounced off of a domed plaster ceiling. The color balance was right on. There's no telling what the auto white balance in my Nikon would have come up with but it would certainly not have been something as accurate.

Have used a previous smaller size version. With a new lens with larger front glass, I needed to get a larger size. Just set your camera for custom white balance, hold the expodisc over the lens and press the shutter while pointing the camera in the direction you are going to photograph and presto, its done.

Used on a Nikkor 18-200mm lens mounted on a Nikon D300. Filter is very easy to use, just slide it into the front of the lens and set the white balance for the specific light source. Filter slips easily into the lens but may not fit into a UV filter mounted onto the lens. It is not a big problem to hold the white balance filter onto a UV lens filter but it would be better if it did fit. Expodisc is sturdy and well made.
