The Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F4.0 2X is a wide-angle zoom lens, with a zoom range equivalent to 14mm-28mm on a 35mm film camera. By incorporating large-aperture aspherical lens and a two-sided aspherical ED lens, it effectively corrects distortion and astigmatism commonly associated with wide-angle lenses. With a minimum working distance of just 10cm, the lens allows the photographer to work extremely close to the subject.

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

have owned this lens since 2005, I can safely say, it has been the best purchase I have ever made. Unlike other optics (including primes like the 12mm Heliar) the difference in exposure between the centre and edge of the frame, is only 1.5 f-stops, whereas many others are around 3 f-stops. In use, it's bulk, actually is an advantage, as it balances well in the palm of your hand. Yes, you can make it flare, but not as much as other 114 degree AoV lenses.

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

Super heavy weight.... slow max. open aperture... beastly expensive. Zooms are nice... but I am sticking with the UWA primes.

B&H does not have this one in stock now, anyhow, so it's an easy decision for me.

      In tight spaces.

Great indoor lens where space is a premium. Or outdoor where you want to create a whole new perspective on wide angle shots.

Amazingly sharp and very little barrel distortion at the long end.

Items at the center are crisp clear and sharp and its weather sealed!

I have no doubt the zuiko 7-14, being a SHG lens will work the way its designed to do. Though the package description stated local warranty only, but at nearly 400 USD cheaper than my local store in Singapore, I took the risk and order it anyway. I am pleasantly surprised to find a standard Olympus international warranty card!

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

Although I do not use this lens often it is good for situations where an ultra wide angle is desirable. It is probably best for landscape photography; I will also use it for large family gatherings around the table where this lens can truly fit everyone in. At the wider angles there is a noticable fisheye effect under certain conditions; but that is typical for any 7 mm lens. A good lens to have, but I would purchase the 14-35 and 35-100 Zuiko zoom lenses first.

Be careful with the lens; the surface does stick out quite a bit and can easily be scratched; it does NOT take any protective filters.

The wide-angle distortion and f4.0 will take some getting used to though.

I'm nervous with that aspherical glass!

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

I purchased this lens to shoot inside of luxury yachts. You just cannot beat this lens for shooting in small spaces. Staterooms, and even heads (bathrooms) can be shot with no trouble at all. I've tried it with the Olympus 11-22mm (another great lens), but the 7-14mm has it beat.

I marked heavy as a con, but this is a real piece of glass, and I expect it to be heavy. You're going to use it on a tripod anyway.

I use this lens on a lot of landscape photography. I also shoot regularly from helicopters, both air to air shots of aircraft as well as landscapes. This lens works great. It is easy to change out and of solid construction. I haven't found any flaws with it in the two years that I have been using it. I also use it for night photography which works great!
I use this lens with a Leica Digilux 3.

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

I've used this lens for about a year now. I originally thought I'd only use it when I needed something super wide angle, but this lens is so much more capapble than that. The distortion is so minimal, that I've wound up using it as my primary wide lens (I also have the Zuiko 11-22). it's totally amazing at 7mm for doing tight crowd shots where it's wall to wall people and just totally useful at 14mm for that something wider than a normal 25mm lens shot. My only concern is the anxiety that the extended curve of the outer element creates--it's pretty exposed and won't accept any filters. Absolutely love it. One of my favorite lenses.

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

This is the lens why I bought a Olympus DSLR.
It is impressive: the quality of the optics, the sheer size and weight.
The lens has almost no barrel-distortion, quite a feat.
I use it mainly for architectural shots, but it is great for landscapes and cities aswell.

Just take a little care when using the lens, the front element stiks out quite a bit and can be scrathed if not carefull enough.
The same applies when putting the lens onto the camera.

Would I recommend this to a friend ? Yes if he is a real good friend, otherwise I would like this to be my secret.

                Overall: a super design.

I have been using this lens for a few weeks now and it is a fine piece of wide angle engineering. The pictures at the 7mm setting produce results that show virtually no distortion in the majority of shots. Also great results for close up photos producing dramatic results. My new favourite.

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

Great lens with incredible optics. At its widest angle, lines are still straight, with no visible distortion. Images are very sharp. Lens is oft described as heavy, but it's the price for the great quality of the images. Outside photography seems to catch a bit of a polarizing effect, with sky looking a bit bluer (actually making photos better). Lens has a rugged-built feeling, very well made. The lens cover has no securing feature, just slides out, so it can be easily lost. Since filters cannot be attached, if you want to use them, you need to find a free-mounting filter system.

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

A lens that makes you tremble - with fear or happiness - or both. It's wide, in fact Ultra Wide Angle (UWA) at 7mm and that opens a lot of opportunities but also some challenges. That goes for any UWA - you'll have to learn how to use it.
This particular UWA is a winner and the recommendations I read before my purchase where right: This is a highly recommended lens by many people out there, and some even bought into the Olympus system because of this lens.
Build is the best you can imagine. But keep that lens-hood on when you walk through dense forest like I do so that you don't damage the front element. Keep the price-sticker glued on to the lens will make you remember how to handle it carefully....
Image quality is worth the money, period. I've got 11-22 and that's a sharp and overall very good lens, but 7-14 is sharper and though it's wider there's less CA. It's an unbelievable masterpiece, a lens to keep for the rest of my life.

                  A first class lens

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

I bought this lens from B&H last month, and use it on an E330. First impressions are that it is quite large and heavy, which is to be expected when you consider how much glass it contains. In use it is prone to flare, so you do have to be careful where the light source is. It won't accept filters and as it gathers a tremendous amount of contrasting elements, being so wide, exposure is a bit more of a challenge than it is with longer focal lengths.Compositions are also more of a challenge, and you have to get extremely close to your subject if it is not to be lost in the overall image. The quality of the results is fantastic. Distortion is kept to a minimum and horizons are very straight. Definition and detail is superb from edge to edge and colour rendition is excellent.Build quality seems very high and I am sure that it is a tough lens, but the front element does protrude so I keep the metal lens cap on as much as possible for fear of scratching it.It is an expensive lens but it delivers, and it is one that I could not now do without. It has hardly been off the camera since I bought it.

                  Expertise: Amateur

Problems Encountered: No problems that are the fault of the lens. It just takes a bit getting used to.

7-14mm an excellent ultra wide lens

Comments about Olympus 7-14mm f/4.0 Zuiko ED Zoom Lens:

I bought this lens from B&H about 6 months ago. It is a super high grade (SHG) lens, which is Olympus' highest level of construction (dust/splash proof) and image quality. The best features of this lens are its ability to control distortion and its very vivid, sharp images. It is contrasty, solid, precise, and hefty (The heft is pleasant, as it balances well on both an E-1 or an E-500). It can be hand-held easily at 1/15 shutter speed (sometimes even 1/4). I use it primarily for indoor architecture and unusual perspectives. It also gives skies a sweeping distortion that is very dramatic. Overall, a great lens that I've enjoyed owning immensely.ProsImage qualityLow distortion (for an ultra-wide)Close-focusing distance allows extreme perspectivesConsNo filter threads (however polarizer doesn't seem to be required to darken blue skies at 90 degrees to the sun)

                  Expertise: Advanced amateur/enthusiast.

Problems Encountered: The user should take care to avoid lens flare .This lens controls flare very well, but ultra wide angle photography is more prone to flare, I believe. As a newcomer to ultra wide photography, I found composition can be challenging and strong foreground elements are required. This is not the ideal lens for portraiture (people in the center of the frame are ok, unless you focus too close on their nose). The front lens is convex, so I'm always very careful to avoid bumping the lens element.
