I've been playing drums for 35 years and my journey for the right isolation headphones has finally come to it's end. Ever since I purchased the Beyerdynamic's DTT 770 M Isolation Headphones for drummers, my ears are barely ringing these days. I've tried countless of headphones (you know which ones) and nothing comes close to the results I get from my DTT 770 M Isolation Headphones. I strongly recommend, from experience all these years having ringing in the ears, that these will substantially reduce ear ringing problems...substantially. Though it holds a hefty tag (coming in between $240.-$280 American greens) yet well worth the quality in stereo along with the preservation of the human ear!

I play with these 'LIVE', running through a sound board located right next to me inside a boxed plastic-shield. So you can imagine how intense the noise level is performing inside that plexi-box!
For the techy at heart, please do read tech content wherever these are sold. I got mine from the UK but I'm sure are readily available through audio sound companies via the net. And yes, I believe it's designed by and for the professional drummer/musician. Maybe the price can come down just a tad.

    Great job Beyerdynamics!

I am a drummer, and because I have a problem with earwax buildup, I wanted to stop using earplugs and IEMs. So, I was looking for some circumaural headphones which could serve the same purpose. A lot of typical earplugs claim noise attenuation of ~30 dB, and my Etymotic IEMs claim 35-40. The DT770M claims 35 dB, but unfortunately this doesn't work at all. They don't even come remotely close to isolating as well as even the cheapest foam earplugs, rendering them useless. If you're looking for something to replace earplugs or IEMs, you're out of luck. In addition, the shallow pleather pads also get hot and sweaty very fast, and while the cable is of very nice quality, the in-line volume control is bulgy and very cheap and plasticy. As a side note:These are more for utilitarian purposes and not really for music listening pleasure, but even so, the sound quality is just utterly appaling. Although Beyerdynamic's normal headphones are top notch, these are simply awful in case you were wondering. There are $20 headphones out there that could put these to shame, and these cost [$]

I am a music producer, studio audio engineer, audio for live events and I have the DT770 Beyerdynamic for many years, and are an excellent reference but for the live recordings I need an excellent reference but with good power.
I thought the Beyerdynamic DT770-M would sound very similar to traditional DT770 but was very disappointing to hear, I had to change and invest more for an Ultrasone PRO 900

            Comments about Beyerdynamic DT-770M - Hi-Noise Stereo Headphones - 80 Ohms:

When I first took these out of the box, they sounded terrible and I was really wondering if I had just thrown my money away. I decided to give them the full treatment and I burned them in with a variety of music, hitting all the frequencies, soft for a day, then normal, then a bit loud, for a total of about 75 hours. After that I put them on and I was amazed at how good they sounded. As far as isolation goes, they seem quite good to me. If I am watching a movie on my PC and someone knocks on the door downstairs, there is a better than 50/50 chance I will not hear them. I have missed UPS a bunch of times this way. They block higher frequencies better than lower, but that's just physics. If you have really loud neighbors, which I do, you will still hear them with these on, but properly adjusted they will cut it down noticeably. Once you turn the music on, it will overwhelm the neighbors and you won't notice much else.My only real complaint is that the pleather started to flake off after I wiped the earpads off with rubbing alcohol, so don't do that. After a thousand of hours use, the foam compacted a bit and my ears started to chafe a bit up against the drivers. To be fair, I have kind of big ears. After another couple thousand hours of use, the earpads have started to fall apart. I'll probably replace them with the goofy looking gel pads that look deeper than the originals. [$] for earpads is about twice what they should cost, but at least they look stupid.

              Comments about Beyerdynamic DT-770M - Hi-Noise Stereo Headphones - 80 Ohms:

I planned to use these headphones on stage (bass playing) in order to minimize hearing loss due to loud stage volume (loud drummer).

As I have hearing loss on the mid and high frequencies I cannot evaluate the sound fidelity of these headphones.

Construction seems to be Ok; the included carrying pouch is nice.

However, in my opinion, they are lacking in the one area I bought them for: noise isolation. Compared to the Vic Firth isolation headphones, which are rated at 22dB, I cannot believe the DT 770Ms provide up to 35dB of ambient noise isolation. I agree with another reviewer that you can hear pretty much everything around you. Isolation headphones these are not.

After further evaluation, I decided to return them and look for other alternatives.

                Comments about Beyerdynamic DT-770M - Hi-Noise Stereo Headphones - 80 Ohms:

I bought this product to use over my hearing aids in order to protect my hearing while playing the bass on noisy stages. I sub for a PW band and they are young and do not know the meaning of "too loud".

I had originally bought a pair of Vic Firth isolation headphones and returned them because the headband was flimsy.

These are better constructed. Much more comfortable. It has a long cable. The included carrying case is a nice plus.

Having said all that, the Vic Firth (rated at 25dB of isolation) were way better in the noise isolation department. These claim up to 35dB, but I say that is misleading; not even close.

I'm keeping them because they do isolate some, and combined with my hearing aids volume control I think I can make it work. But I'm giving them only three stars because in the noise isolation department their performance does not come close to par to their claims. If noise isolation is critical for you, look elsewhere.

                    Comments about Beyerdynamic DT-770M - Hi-Noise Stereo Headphones - 80 Ohms:

These headphones are used by me at the drum set to monitor the band in a church praise band setting and for practice & monitoring at home. They are used in church two services every weekend and a few times a week at home.
I bought these to replace some advertised as extreme _ _ _ _ _ tion headphones that broke on me after a couple years of use.
The first thing I noticed on the DT-770M's is the nice carrying case they came in. A very nice touch which hopefully will help protect them. The headphones look very nice and fit very well. The weight is modest for a nicely cushioned over the ear pair of headphones. The ear pads are very comfortable and the pressure the headband exerts on my head is not excessive as I have experienced with other brands.
I like that the head band is cushioned and covered metal instead of plastic, and having the input chord enter on only one side of the headphones in a necessity for drumming. The length of the chord is also more than sufficient for my needs. The sound quality is very good and the ambient noise reduction is even better than my last headphones.
The only thing I'm unsure of is whether or not the integrated volume control will be trouble free or not and the durability of the ear cup pivots which appear to be plastic.
All in all, an excellent pair of headphones and a good value even at this price level.

[...] I bought these headphones after reading the stellar reviews on this and similar websites (the independent volume control really sold me). As I took them out of the box I noticed that they felt light and cheap. The foam earcups were deformed, and not nearly as dense as I had expected. I put them on assuming I would hear a noticeable isolation (why I bought them), and to my surprise could hear very clearly everything going on around me- TV, dogs, people, the ceiling fan, etc. I had other people try them on to make sure I wasn't crazy, and they too notice the lack of isolation. I've been drumming for over 8 years in various bands, and these are by far the most disappointing pair of "quality headphones I've ever used..FOR ALMOST $300 THESE SHOULD HAVE BLOCKED OUT ALL AMBIENT NOISE. They did not. To be perfectly honest, I get better isolation with a $20 pair of KOSS headphones. Let me be clear : THESE ARE NOT MADE FOR DRUMMERS. You have been warned.

Drummer's...you HAVE to buy these headphones! If you want to save your hearing use these headphones. They allow you to LOWER the level in the headphones due to the 35dB ambient noise reduction. Whatever you are monitoring you can listen at a VERY comfortable level and still hear your kit! Just tell your sound guy to bleed the kit into your mix and life is beautiful.
