While this is a solid piece of gear, it's not perfect. Presently, it's being used to support a hair light (Ultra 600 with barn doors and grid) with a total weight of about 8 lbs. At its present extension of 28", there is no slippage. However, at extension lengths beyond this, there is increasingly more slippage to the point of total slippage at full extension. Although the product description indicates support of up to 15.4 lbs at maximum extension, I don't find this to be accurate. Accordingly, I think this boom functions best with shorter extensions and lighter loads.

Heavy duty workhorse. Only complaint is that it is a little long on the hook side. Luckily I have a large studio so it does not get in my way.

Comments about Avenger D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

A very sturdy mini boom. It attaches to a light stand very well. It is easy to lower and raise and swivels very easy too. It is quite heavy and at times I need help adjusting it. It will hold a 580 EXII and a flex with a small rapid box just fine. I think it is capable of holding much more than that.It does a wonderful job with clam shell lighting. It would be perfect with someone starting out with speedlites and plans on adding studio lighting someday.

Comments about Avenger D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

I had this in my "wish list" to go with my avenger stands. While attending a lighting workshop in my area, they had one of these slick puppies in the studio. It is extremely sturdy, and it was designed intelligently enough to have a hook for holding sandbags built in. I have others that just provide a hole you can stick your own hook through. The two very minor downsides (and it won't stop me from buying a second one of these) are that 1) it is quite heavy, and 2) the stud is just a tad too big. It is right at the upper limit of the 5/8" spec, so some lights might be hard to mount without a little filing of either the stud or the receptacle on the light.

This thing is strong. Pairing this up with a D1 head and a 48" Rapid Box works great for me. Even with my 84" Octabox it handles the load.

I understand the weights and balances concept of this boom, but when you have a $ moonlight on the other end, and the balance id s just a BIT off during setup, you can almost lose a light like I did! Thank goodness I had a soft box on the moonlight to protect it! I would have gone with another mini boom had I known what I was in for.

My standard light stand was always in the way when I wanted to do over/under clamshell lighting. The boom allows me to set my top light and and have a straight on view with my camera between the top and bottom light with a stand in my way.

I bought this for use in my studio with Einstein strobes. It is a very well built, high quality boom. Yes it is heavy but I have no doubt it will be reliable for years to come. I would recommend this for anyone needing a good heavy duty boom for their studio.

This boom is really well made. I'm particularly glad that it has a real baby pin on it instead of the cheesey ones on some others. Like all Avenger hardware, it's a bit heavy but that's what you want here. The hook at the back for a sandbag is what makes it work so well. I have had it on a beefy stand without any problems.

For a chrome metal pole, it does everything with style, durability, and functions perfectly. Sandbag hook is handy. Adjustable length, angle, and balance point make positioning easy. No complaints. Will last forever. It's heavy, but for this type of gear, that's a bonus to me.

Comments about Avenger D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

I paired this with the Avenger A5034 11' Roller Stand 34 with Folding Base (Chrome-plated/Black)and am extremely happy with it. It is strong, doesn't bend under load, has good reach, and is well-designed. Researched these a lot before purchase, comparing to (mostly) Matthews gear. I'm very please with this equipment and would buy it again.

Works great for on location shoots. I have used this with my Stobs and beauty dish on location many times and have never had any problems with it.

This thing is built to last, doesn't bend, and it can be used on other light stands if you don't have the Avenger's C stand.

After trying to boom heads and modifiers with 40" C-stand arms this thing is the right tool for the job! Rock Solid on a c-stand with a 10lb sand bag to counter balance it.

Comments about Avenger D600 Mini Boom (Chrome-plated):

If you are looking for a heavy duty boom arm that's it. It's a mule for fundamental versatile studio work. There are few more other options that are either fancier (like with a rotation arm etc.) or for heavier equipment (e.g., movie equipment), but they are more expensive. If you are a studio photographer looking for a boom arm which is simple, durable, safe (make sure that your strobe does not fall down in the middle of the shoot) and for a plausible price this is it. You can use it for outdoor, too, if you have strong arm muscles and don't care too much carrying around—or have a strong assistant who will do it for you without complaning.
