The Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera combines a classical design with easy-to-use operation. Features and controls are designed to make practical photography comfortable and free from unpleasant surprises caused by the camera. Manual or auto TTL exposure metering as well as an AE-lock function gives you complete control of the exposure situation.
Unlike 35 mm SLR camera viewfinders that can only show little more than 90% of what will be recorded on film, the Zeiss Ikon viewfinder lets you see the area that surrounds the actual image giving you greater possibilities and confidence as you compose each image. What's more, the triangulation rangefinder combined with a viewfinder base that is the widest available means that you can expect extreme accuracy and wide-angle focusing precision.
Because it features an M-mount, you can use existing Leica or Voigtlander M-mount type lenses, or upgrade to Carl Zeiss lenses, over time.

Comments about Zeiss Ikon 35mm Rangefinder Camera Body:
I have owned this camera for a couple of months now and could not be happier with it. It is an absolute pleasure to use, the viewfinder is bright and the aperture priority mode is fantastic. Unlike the Leica M6 which I also own and love, the Ikon is very easy to load -- the entire back swings open. In addition, the Ikon has a small window in the back of the camera which shows the side of the film canister -- a great feature for forgetful people who never remember what kind of film they have loaded. The meter can be sometimes a little difficult to read in very bright sunlight, but that has not been a problem for me. The only imperfection in this camera is the finish. The silver paint gets scratched very easily, which is unfortunate as the camera is otherwise very beautiful. Unless you really like the kind of character added to the camera's body by gray scratches, some sort of case is essential.
