Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Comments about Zeiss Lens Hood for 25mm and 28mm:

This is a great lens hood, sturdy, well built. But I can't help but thinking this should come standard with all the ZM lenses.

        Zeiss Precision

Comments about Zeiss Lens Hood for 25mm and 28mm:

Screw-in lens hoods often jammed or worked loose . With this clip-on system there are no such problems. The hood protects the front lens element so a protection filter is not necessary thus eliminating two air -glass surfaces.
The ventilated sides reduce viewfinder blockage and
there is no vignetting on the 28mm f2.8 lens.
The fit is secure since the hood is spring -loaded and requires a push and twist.
Although more expensive than plastic screw-in hoods its metal and screw construction make it worth the extra expense. I have no hesitation in recommending this lens hood.

Comments about Zeiss Lens Hood for 25mm and 28mm:

Expensive and does block the viewfinder on the M8.2 -- It is metal, built well and easy slips on and off the Zeiss Biogon 25mm f2.8 lens. Could easily be a 5 star if not for blocking the viewfinder.
