Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a lightbox.
Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.
This Impact 33" White Translucent Umbrella is suggested for use in head-and-shoulders portraits for one or two persons.

This came as part of a kit. It seems pretty cheap. It uses soft plastic bits to hold the umbrella's cloth onto the frame. It seems like in this case, a more sturdy version from a reliable brand might not be all that much more expensive, but as an add on to a kit, it seems fine.

This product opens and locks easily and folds up and closes back in its sleeve cover fairly quick. This product is light weight and great for diffusing light with my flash. I would recommend this product to anyone on a budget and needing a medium size umbrella. I have only used this product in a studio setting have not tried outdoors yet due to our weather in my area.

Business photography.
Great size, appears to be well made, feels rugged so it should last, nice heavy plastic bag for storing when not in use.
Wish it would have come with an attachment clip. Had to order separately.

This is strange because they were sold with a lighting kit I bought. They came with a pair of impact wooden tungsten lights housings, two stands, and two bulbs. However, all were packed separately. These and the stands made the cost worth it alone! Cheap enough to use as a back up set, good enough to use everyday.

These umbrellas were part of a package and they aree a perfect match for the lamps they came with. The size is appropriate and the diffusion is spot on. Umbrellas perform as expected. An excellent value.

If you are a person that treats all your stuff with TLC then this will probably work just fine for you. I had the wind catch one mounted to a tripod and over it went, bending 2-3 of the supports. Fortunately I was able to bend them back in place and it has still worked for me. It does it's job but it is on the fragile side.

Comments about Impact White Translucent Umbrella (33"):
These are simple, affordable umbrellas. They aren't huge so if you are in a tight space they are great. Works well with speedlights and continuous lights. At first I thought the shaft was solid, but after using it a few times I realized it was only capped off at the end. Not a big deal, except I over tightened the umbrella adapter a few times and I now have a few dents in the shaft! It's alright, for the price I can live with it, just have to be more careful.
