Not compatible with 35mm or digital cameras with image sensor larger than APS-C size
The Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO is a high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 28-300mm in 35mm format.
Designed as an "all-in-one" lens, it will meet almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 1.5' (45 cm) over the entire zoom range by the employment of a new optical/mechanical design configuration. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.7, you can enjoy close-up photography easily and conveniently.
Note: Di-II lenses cannot be used with digital SLR cameras using image sensors that are larger than that of an APS-C size imager (e.g. 1D series), or with 35mm film SLR cameras.

The most common "issues" listed are CA and image sharpness. After receiving my lens I immediately took several test shots to test these issues.
While the CA is present (probably more pronounced than a $1200 Canon L lens), it's not that bad. I have lenses that are rated 8.9 out of 10 for image quality and the CA is equal to those. Most lenses that cost less than one month's mortgage payment will have CA issues. Is it really that much of a problem? CA is an easy fix in photoshop.
Sharp focus issues? Nope. Again, if you drop $1200 on a lens you will probably notice a sharper image in some circumstances, but for overall sharpness this lens is great!
After reading many many posts about image clarity, it seems as though some people just have to learn how to use their lenses properly. This lens has its limitations , maximum aperture is one of them, but you get what you pay for. Unless you really want to have a depth of field equivalent to a sheet of paper at 4 feet, then you really have stumbled upon the right lens for the price.
If you are a pro photographer this lens would probably be at the bottom of your list. You know what you like, so stick to it. If you are an amateur this lens is THE lens to have if you are on a budget. Lightweight, lens lock, huge range, clarity, cost, cost, cost!
If I had $1200 I would drop this lens quicker than a hot casserole dish without a pot holder. But until I get a raise, this lens will never leave my camera. Well, maybe occasionally when i get a fisheye lens...but not until then!
I use this lens on a Canon xsi(450D).

This lens is a good compromise when you need one lens to do it all--like a vacation trip. It is reasonably small and light, and has an excellent zoom range. It is mechanically sound, operationally smooth, and there was no lens creep at all in my lens, even when subjected to a lot of jostling.
However, the wide angle part of the range introduces significant distortion. This will not bother photographers who do wildlife or flowers or people. I do landscape photography, with an emphasis on architectural work. I need the flagpoles to remain straight, and stair steps to remain flat, and nothing is straight or flat at the wide-angle end of the zoom range, especially near the edges of the photo. Unfortunately, the distortion is not simple pincushioning, and the distortion changes as the zoom changes. I spend so much time in Photoshop trying to straighten wavy building edges that I find myself avoiding the 18-35 mm range most of the time.
Keep in mind that this is not a lens that a professional would use in a studio setting, nor one he would take out on assignment. This does not compete at all, for instance, with high-quality wide-angle lenses like the Canon 10-22 mm, which I own, and which is vastly superior. However, the Tamron lens is half the price, lighter in weight, and much more versatile.
This is a low-price solution for the person who wants or needs to do all their photos through one lens. It is a compromise, and a reasonable one. I have taken about 2,000 photos with it so far, and I have some gorgeous results in situations where I would never have hauled 2 or 3 lenses along, or where there was no time to change lenses.
If you need more zoom range than the original kit lens (18-55 mm) provides, and cost is a big factor, this lens can be an answer.

This is an excellent lens for it's price point. It is not as good as it's [$] counterpart. However, being a novice photographer I love what I get from this lens. The quality of the pictures has increased greatly from the stock lens that came with my Rebel XS. I also have stopped carring 2 lens as this handles most if not all my needs. If you are an advanced or professional photographer why are you considering a lens at this price point? The only problem I have is that this lens takes too long to focus in low light situations. The wait results in nice quality but kills a lot of spontaneous shots. Thus the 4 star rating.

Bought this because i dropped my canon lens just before going to disney land, I have expensive lenses that i didn't want to take so opted for this, i have had tamron before and loved them, but i think i have been spoilt by using my other lenses that have IS on them.
For a beginner it would be a great lens for my kind of shooting i like to walk and take the photos whilst moving just quick journalist type photos. i was doing a lot with this lens, on the camera they looked ok (ish) but once i put them onto my computer a lot were blurred most were not as sharp as i needed them to be. the ones i took when i was still were good.

I bought this lens with the intension of being able to do a lot with one lens on trips. I haven't used it for a trip yet but it has done a great job so far. You can go from wide angel to a decent zoom with just 1/2 of a turn. The images are good, excelent for a $[$] lens. Lets face it, this isn't supposed to be top quality so don't compare it to a High-end pro lens. I'm not a pro and I'm on a budget so this was well worth the money. Also makes me not worry so much if it gets broke, lost, or stolen. I only gave it 4 stars because the macro isn't true macro. I compared it to my canon 75 to 300mm and the close-ups looked the same.

This is a good lens for travel, especially for the price. It has a wide angle to telephoto range. I do like that it is light weight and compact. This will come in handy for my trip to Peru. I've already tested and the auto focus is a little slow, especially in low light. Images are pretty good though for a $[$] lens. I do have to say that this is not a true macro lens. I have used a Canon 75 to 300mm lens and gotten just as close. Lucky for me that wasn't my original reason for purchasing. The bottom line is this is a great travel lens for 2 reasons. It's inexpensive so you don't worry as much about anything happening to it and the 18mm to 200mm range allows for light packing. Comes with a lens hood.

I was eager to add a second Tamron lens to my kit, having already been pleased with their 12-24mm offering (courtesy of B&H). Sadly, my 18-200 example didn't meet expecations when paired with either my Canon T2i or old XT. Right out of the box, it was not sharp as anticipated. A lot of vignette over 100mm zoom. Also exhibited the low light, hunt-for-focus issue. Faster than my Canon lenses when light was good, so don't be afraid to try this 18-200; you might have better luck. Price is outstanding and probably makes an exceptional walk around-vacation-snapshot lens. I've neglect my 35mm hobby for a few years but, now that I'm back, enlargment quality is now important to me. Guess I'll have to start looking at B&H's higher end lenses; less zoom range & 1.4's...

I don't have to switch lenses or carry a ton of equipment now around on a photo shoot. I love the crisp images I am getting from it, too! The limited aperture is, at times, frustrating when I forget to adjust for lighting, etc, and sometimes it gets confused on the focus and can be slow to figure out what I'm looking at when things are moving around. HOWEVER, this minor issue actually served me well during a newborn shoot because I aimed, it kept focusing and refocusing, the baby calmed down and I was able to obtain the most perfect newborn shot I have ever taken. The mom was thrilled, too. Thanks for an awesome product.
