Comments about Pentax 12x50 PCF WP II Binocular:

I live in Australia and bought this binocular for astronomy. Optics are incredibly sharp - surprising in such a great value package. Field of view is fine for my intended use and the image is very sharp with no noticeable fall off or blurring even at the edge of the lens. B & H service is second to none - I received the order within 5 days. I would highly recommend these to anyone starting out in astronomy. I also bought a tripod and adapter which I'm also very pleased with. Great stuff...

Comments about Pentax 12x50 PCF WP II Binocular:

I like the build quality. The optics aren't as good as I had been led to believe they would be, but good for the price. The one thing I do not like is the twist out eye cups. They are so bulky that they pinch my nose at all times. So although the eye to eye distance is rated down to 58mm, in practice you cannot go as narrow as this as the eye cups dig into your nose well before then.
For me, this aspect of the design would make these Binoculars unsuitable for children, young adults or anyone with " eyes too close together".

Comments about Pentax 12x50 PCF WP II Binocular:

Though some might find this information useful, I recently ordered the Pentax 12x50mm PCF WP II and have had it out the last few nights using it with my 11x56mm Gemini binoculars that I've used for the last few years. Here are my quick impressions and notes:

I did some comparisons between the 11x56mm Gemini and the 12x50 PCF WP II Pentax on the night sky. In short, I could see the same faintest stars in each binocular mounted. The 11x56 has a ~1% barrel overlap (pretty dang good) while the Pentax is overlapping perfectly. Overlapping was tested for on Polaris. Both pair just split 100 Herc, the 11x56 has less CA than the Pentax 12x50. The Pentax has a "cleaner" FOV, the Gemini a much wider FOV. The Gemini has ~2% prism intrusion in the exit pupil on one barrel while the Pentax has none. I would give on-axis sharpness ever so slightly to the Gemini when viewing bright stars as they appear to be a bit smaller in size. The Gemini shows no spiking on the brightest objects; the Pentax shows very minor spiking on stars 2+ magnitude. The Pentax is prone to external light sources; the Gemini does better about keeping external lighting out. Jupiter looks great in both pair; the Pentax again shows very minor spiking mainly at the 12, 8, and 4 o'clock positions.

Upon more testing the 11x56 Gemini shows to be ~12x48mm binocular while the Pentax shows to be a ~12x50mm binocular. The Pentax illuminates the exit pupil better than the Gemini. The Pentax is moisture resistant (I say resistant because nothing is moisture proof) while the Gemini is not. I did not measure the exact weight but the Pentax feels slightly lighter than the Gemini and is easier for me to handhold. Both are light-weight and a pleasure to use.

Eye-relief is definitely more comfortable on the Pentax but the Gemini still has a good amount. I would have to say that construction and durability goes to the Pentax although the Gemini is definitely not junk. Both are very nice

Construction is solid and top notch. Views provided by superb optics are bright, clear and first rate. I spend much time outdoors, and I am sure these binox will stand the tests of use and time. In summary, I am not surprised because all Pentax products that I have in the past or currently own, are extremely competent products at reasonable cost to the consumer, and these are no different. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE OF A QUALITY, FULL SIZE PAIR OF BINOCULARS, I AM CERTAIN YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER VALUE.

Comments about Pentax 12x50 PCF WP II Binocular:

I purchased for astronomy and occasional terrestrial use. Chose the pentax WP II line for the good resolution and focus to the edge of field, and was not dissapointed in that regard. Seems fine for limited hand held use, but for extended use I mount the binoculars. For mounted astronomy use the 12x is a good magnification for many objects. The field of view is a bit limited compared to other similar product lines, but I preferred a smaller field that is sharp to the edge to a larger one that gets mushy at the edge. The binoculars are mechnically very well built.
