The Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone is designed for professional audio capturing in the field or indoors. With a history of manufacturing quality studio microphones, Rode has implemented low noise output electronics and wide bandwidth, both of which attribute to the NTG-1's broadcast sound quality.
The supercardioid polar pattern and line plus gradient acoustic principle effectively minimize audio and noise at the off-axis (sides) of the microphone, while the front of the capsule accurately reproduces incoming audio signal. The result is greater intelligibility and signal-to-noise ratio while using the NTG-1 in noisy environments.
The NTG-1 is powered with an external +48 Volt phantom power source; the output is a standard 3-pin XLR male connector.
The microphone features a rugged, all metal, light weight enclosure that is ideal for camera mounting yet durable enough to withstand the rigors of heavy road use. The Rode NTG-1 is packaged with a microphone stand mount and windscreen.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I make advertisements and short films constantly and I needed a good boom mic, and this thing delivers. Gives good tone and rich bases. It is kind of sensitive to the wind, even with a wind buster but still a solid mic.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
Not even needing the caveat "for the money", this is a great mic. I've compared it on a shoot with my Sennheiser 416s, and to be honest, in post I can't tell which is which. Very nice sound.

Great mic, very sensitive, can pick up sounds that I cannot hear. Maybe a little too sensitive....still not sure.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I'm using the microphone with my Canon 7D and a Zoom H4n recorder. I got a Rycote Universal Camera kit that includes a mount and windshield. I was very hesitant to buy a microphone at such a comperatively low price, since I know how important sound is and that it is better to invest in the best quality. I am very impressed, however, with the quality of sound I am getting. I know a sound expert will probably be able to tell me how much better a Sennheiser 416 is. But to most ordinary people, including me who have been doing professional camera work for years, the audio sounds, well, just great. The look and feel of the microphone speaks of quality. The length is also perfect for a DSLR and even on a wide lens, the microphone mounted on the camera's hot shoe does not get into shot.

I use this microphone to record live stage performances like school plays and concerts. It works really well and has a nice sound to it. My only complaint is the lack of battery operation wich I knew about when I bought it but became really inconvenient after usage.

This microphone performed very well. I use it to film school concerts and it picks up the sound so well that we rarely need to use the live feed from the mixing desk. Great value and would definitely recommend this to others.

How I Use This Product: Audio recording for video. I hook it up to my Zoom H4N and sync up the sound in post with footage from my 5D MK II. I highly recommend using a shock mount while mobile on a boom pole. Other wise, this mic is so sensitive, it'll pick up the vibration sound. The included mic clip is great if you're leaving in stationary on a boom mic stand. Excellent pickup pattern. In a quite studio, it works flawlessly if you put in on axis correctly. Out in the field, it does exceptionally well for getting the target sound. Picks up some background noise, but as long as you get room tone or ambient noise track separately, you won't notice. It'll just sound natural.Overall, very impressed. Worth the money and since it's the only mic I have right now, I'm finding it to be very versatile in all my video and foley situations.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
This mic is wonderful, I love the price and the audio quality sounds quite good to me. Then, one day my boom-op dropped it from a low altitude. The back end now has a noticable chip, I was so nervous that the fall would affect the sound quality. Thank goodness it pulled through, and I cannot tell the difference in audio quality! Thank you Rode for quality and B&H for good service.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
This shotgun does a lot for it's small size (nice full sound quality if you're capturing it from the right distance/angle). Still, it is a small mic and if mounted directly to your camera it's going to only do well with whatever you're pointing it at. Good for on the go quickie interviews, but don't expect it to work wonders!

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
This microphone picks up almost any sound you can throw at it in an environment.
It does have a cardiod pickup pattern so sounds behind it aren't going to be very noticeable, but any sound within its pattern is extremely clear and well defined, and the patttern even though it's cardiod is still somewhat wide.
If you need something within an extremely directional pickup you might want to get a mic with a super cardiod pattern, but otherwise this mic is a fantastic piece of equipment.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
This shotgun mic is a great value, combining affordability with high-quality signal. The compact form factor is a bonus. The microphone compares favorably to my old Sennheiser ME-80, and pretty much every other microphone I've used.
The one concern I've had is that its narrow diameter causes it to swim in my on-camera mic holder. I wrapped the NTG-1 in a neoprene strip to snug up the mount and that seems to have solved the problem. Another solution would be to purchase the Rode SM5 shock mount. Maybe I'll pony up for a proper mount in the future, but the neoprene is working for now.
Note that this microphone is phantom powered, so verify that your camera (or other equipment) can supply the necessary juice.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I have a dslr camera and use it for interviews and making short films. This mic is slightly shorter than most shotgun mics which is nice because I can fit it in my camera bag. The sound quality is top notch for this price range. It is this only mic I am aware of with a full 20hz to 20khz range in its class.

Comments about Rode NTG-1 Condenser Shotgun Microphone:
I use this shotgun to supplement the on-camera mic on my DVX-100a. I like it's range and reach, and the anti-shock mount that comes with the mic is a definite plus. Even with a wind screen it remains out of the field of vision of the lens. The 90° XLR connection helps to keep the cable from being an obstruction.
