The Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release is a heavy-duty magnesium alloy ball head that weighs 1.4 lb yet is capable of supporting 22 lb. Designed to meet the demands of professional photographers who want maximum control with minimal effort, the 468MGRC2 uses a hydraulic system that requires very little force for an exceptional strong lock-down. The head features tension adjustment and 360 degree panning with a separate lock and a lateral tilt range of -90° / +90°.

The 468MGRC2 uses the popular RC2 quick release system, which is small and light enough to leave permanently attached to your compact or SLR camera even when not using a tripod.

I started with a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 tripod, I added the Manfrotto 204SPK3, retractable spiked feet. To complete my tripod I added this ballhead. The friction adjustment makes it very easy to make fine adjustments and the head locks quickly and solidly with minimal effort. I can live with this set up for years to come. The total package is around 5 lbs. and provides a solid base for my photography. This head weighs about a half pound more than the lightest quality heads, but the ease of operation more than makes up for the extra weight in my book. I do not have any exceptionally heavy equipment so I am perfectly happy with the RC2 plate system. It locks securely with minimal play and I appreciate the double safety lock that prevents accidental release.

Great Ballhead but it cant handle the cold. The Hydrostatic system failed, i.e. froze/burst, while on a trip to China. Manfrotto was kind enough to inform me, after the fact, that it can not be subjected to a temp below -10 degree Fahrenheit. China and many parts of the US get colder than -10F during the winter. It gets even colder when checked on an airline. Manfrotto replaced the Ballhead with a 3-Way Head, model 229, and I'm purchasing an Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 for my lightweight travel Ballhead.

Far better than my old Manfrotto ball head, which would creep slightly after i locked it. Action is smooth yet precise. All-in-all, it's everything positive the other reviewers described it to be. (Now if only the price were a little lower.)

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

I have a gimbal head but needed a smaller more light weight head for travel and a photographer I know owns this and recommended it to me. This Manfrotto ball head was well worth the investment. This is the second Manfrotto ball head I purchased. The first one was rated for weight higher than my gear weighs yet it always slipped and needed readjusting after composition. This Hydrostatic Ball Head is not only light weight but is sturdy and much easier to use. Not once did I need to readjust the height of the head after composing the image due to slippage.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

I've had this ball head on my tripod for a couple weeks now and have taken roughly 1000 photos with it. The friction dial is very easy to use... you basically just twist it until you get a good resting tension that feels good to you... and by that I mean, the friction present when you are ready to release the head to move it to a new position. To lock the head into the new position takes a very small twist with no real force at all... and it locks tight! There's no give when this head is locked down.. I've experienced no drift at all. The RC2 quick release is nice... I've noticed multiple people talking about possible accidental release... there's a small lever on the underside of the release plate that locks the release lever... I think the likelihood of an accidental release when using the lock is not great... I have no fear of my camera accidentally coming off the plate.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

Being a small person with not the strongest hands, I was looking for a ball head that would support a lot of weight and not require much strength to tighten. I thought the hydrostatic feature would make things much easier, but didn't find that to be the case. Was not impressed with the finish and didn't really care for the quick release plate. For the money I wanted to be really happy with the ball head so returned it. Ended up buying a Sirui K-30x Ball Head and love it so much I bought a second one. The Sirui cost 1/2 as much as the Manfrotto and I liked it much, much better.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

Solid head with tight grip and no slack. I needed an additional head after getting 2 more Manfrotto tripods to hold heavier medium format cameras. I took the bigger head off my smaller tripod and transferred it to the new one. Then I needewd a new head for the old one. After reading the reviews, I decided this was ideal for the Canon 5Ds and 1Dx with lenses up to 300 mm. I wasn't diapooiunted. Very solid and sturdy. No movement, although a little hard to adjust. Other than that, well worth the money.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

I had a cheaper version Manfrotto ball head for several years, which worked okay, but which would creep just a bit after being locked down. This hydrostatic ball head locks very solid, doesn't creep, and is so easy to use and control. I would, and already have recommended this to a friend.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

One of my long time pet peeves in a ball head is having to fiddle with with to get the right combination of flexibility and stability. What is great about this one is that it can hold anything and the adjustment from loose to lock down is very simple to do, especially with only one hand. Yes, it is expensive, but having tried other ball heads, this is probably going to be the last ball head I need to buy.

My first experience with any of the ball head products.
This device exceeded my expectations. I needed a second head for my tripod and one that could travel easily. The size and shape work well for me in that regard. The locking mechanism is what really surprised me in that the device "feels" sturdy and in control at all times.

I have had Manfrotto ball heads for years and I am enjoying this one. The Hydrostatic works very well but I am still getting used to it. I put it on a Berlebach Wood 823 tripod they seem to make a good team. I use the Nikon D700+battery grip the 1052.8 vr, 28-300vr or the 16-35 vr and they all do very well with the head.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

Have used other Manfrotto Ball Heads with good results. With this one I can continue to use my RC2 Quick Release Plates that were purchased with other heads. This Ball Head is Smooth with just the right amount of drag to keep the camera steady when adjusting camera direction. The tension adjustment controls a large and easy to operate. The Ball Head Base fits standard size Tripods. I purchased a Wimberley C-12 Quick Release Clamp and permanently attached this clamp to a RC2 quick release plate to facilitate using Arca-Swiss quick release lens attachments that I have mounted on my Long Lens Collection.

                        This Ball Head readily supports a 70-200 2.8, 300 4.0, 80-400 5.6, etc. (I use a Wimberley head for my 300 2.8. The Manfrotto Head will support the 300 2.8, but it's not a good match.

                        Hope this helps.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

Needed a ball head that would hold in vertical position for studio jobs. The 468MGRC2 got the job done. This Hydrostatic Ball Head will hold a Nikon D4 with a 24-70 mm lens without any problem and with very little pressure on tension control. Satisfied customer.

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

I've never been a big fan of tripods. They've always been used only when absolutely necessary and nearly against my will. I've never liked all of the knobs and levers to adjust on tripods to get things roughly right and then all over again to make adjustments. This hydrostatic ballhead has a single lever for panning and a double knob for everything else. I absolutely love how I can adjust the grip the ballhead has via the smaller friction knob so that I can make fine adjustments without having to loosen and then re-tighten for hold. Get it just right and it'll hold a D700 + grip setup just fine while I make sure things are all level.I know choose to bring my tripod setup to shoots where I would not have otherwise.

This is the finest ball head I have used to date, a example of you get what you pay for...I am sure there are other fine tools out there as well, however I have set my system's to work with the RC2 plates and the interchange ability's amongst the components I own and this new head are exactly what I was looking for ...

Comments about Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC2 Quick Release:

This ballhead is really quite good. The locking mechanism is quick and easy. And once you set it, there's no perceptible movement in the action.

Everything except the quick-release. I've since swapped out the RC2 plate system with a normal arca-style mount. A highly recommended and easy swap (just 2 screws).

I am a nature photographer with a tremor in my hand. I need a ballhead that is really steady. The friction function focuses the camera enough for me to then make other adjustments without the camera moving. I just got this ballhead 2 weeks ago and I am pleased.

I've recommended this ball head to all my students for the past several years. Finally, I purchased one for my professional use.The smooth action, ability to set the friction to fit one's hand strength, and speed in composing the shot make this the ball head to buy - in my opinion. It is durable enough to support my 500mm lens/camera combination and definitely supports any of my students' equipment.I've wanted to buy this ball head since I've been recommending it. 20+ students have followed my advice and purchased them. Now I can "lead by example."

I've been using the Hydrostatic Ballhead for a few weeks now and am adjusting to it nicely. It's so easy to attach and remove my camera body and adjusting the ballhead is a breeze. I think we are going to work well together. I am using this ballhead on a new Manfrotto Carbon Fiber tripod. I hike to unusual places to shoot wedding and engagement pictures and I love having the lightweight, yet stable equipment.
