Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
This manual focus lens is simply amazing. Color contrast is outstanding and it's remarkedly sharp at all apertures. I use it on my Nikon D800 and when I need to take a close up photo I switch to DX format and the result is a great shot with little distortion unlike the 16-35mm f4 which cost twice as much. What I love the most is the lens is light weight.
Focusing is not a problem - it does take a little getting used to after so many years of using AF lenses but with practice I'm getting faster.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
This lens is optically incredible. One of the sharpest lenses Nikon makes. Produces very sharp and contrasty images. Great Nikon build quality. Excellent! I use it for indoors, architecture and anytime I want a useful wide view. Not too wide. One of the great price/performance deals Nikon offers.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
I use this lens on a Canon DSLR and as a low budget filmmaker, having the manual aperture and long focus throw is a nice addition. The lens can focus very close and stay very sharp.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
This is my "normal" lens on APS-C. Used on Canon T3i and 40D, it is very sharp, even wide open. I use it a lot at f/2.8 and f/4, no issues. Precise focusing is possible in magnified LiveView.

Superior optics and build quality. Manual focus is precise and very smooth. With its extreme sharpness and small size it makes an an ideal walking lens for a DX camera or a moderate wide angle for an FX.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
There is a very good reason this lens has been around for the past 3 decades. It is among Nikon's best. It is probably the sharpest WA lens that Nikon makes, has incredible buttery bokeh, great manual focus 'feel' and minimal distortion. It is one of the closest focusing WA lenses out there. Image quality is superb through the focusing range. I can't really think about any negatives about this lens. I use it on my Nikon D600. Get one. It will make you a better photographer because it will make you think about composition differently, and reward you with beautiful images afterwards.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
Were this lens to be offered with auto-focus I would say it was 100% perfect. With out 99.5%. Incredible IQ at the right length to be useful for an extremely broad array of picture types. AND, the close focus and extreme sharpness of the lens allows you go out and about and take a bunch of "almost macro" shots with the same small, light, rugged, optically almost-perfect lens that works for a variety of subjects. Every day lens to just keep on camera for all the times you just want to snag it and run.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
32 years to be precise, I was young and I had the cheapest Nikon body available back then, the infamous Nikon EM. This lens was able to resist the time,it probably went on ten different bodies, it is still like brand new and today it takes amazingly sharp photos on a Nikon D800E body.
I think that lens-wise this has been the best investment I ever did and I'm sure it will outlast myself.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
The 28mm 2.8 AIS is as sharp as any Nikon wide angle lens i have used. Including the 24-70mm, the 16-35mm, 14-24mm, and the 24mm 1.4G. I give a slight edge in performance to the 24mm 1.4G, but i prefer to use the 28mm 2.8 AIS b/c it is lighter, just as sharp, and focuses extremely close. The bokeh is beautiful, there is minimal distortion, and the MF is buttery smooth. I currently use it on my D3s, and plan on using it on the D800.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
Very pleased that Nikon is still producing these vintage manual focus lenes of the highest quality ever. Super smooth, sharp as a tack and rock solid. Looks and works great with my Nikon F (which is still going strong for more than forty years) and other F series cameras. Digital photography is amazing but in my humble opinion could never replace the joy of manually shooting film or that certain mystery of the photograph.
Received package safe and sound in quick time. Thanks B&H.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
This is a world-class lens at a vintage price. Best shot at f5.6 and f8, it will provide stellar imaging, and as sharp as a tack.
There is chromatic aberration with this lens, but it is "simple CA", and can be cleaned up fully with the appropriate RAW conversion process.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
I purchased this lens as a "normal" lens for a DX format on a Nikon D300s. Though I find myself wishing for something wider, at times, I find the really wide coverage taken care of by my equally stellar Tokina 11-16 2.8. I chose this lens also for its reputation as an extremely sharp lens with build quality to match. I am absolutely delighted in both areas! The smoothness and dampening of the focus ring is simply superlative; far more impressive than the current crop of pro lenses in Nikon's lineup, in my opinion. Sharpness, even at 2.8 in less than ideal lighting, is especially noteworthy. Great product, especially for FX users. I unreservedly recommend getting a new one while Nikon still makes them. [...]

If manual focus is not a problem this lens is a gem. It's sharp and small. A real pleasure to shoot with. I travel with it, leaving my wide zooms at home, it can fit in your pocket, ready for when you need it.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
I use it with a Nikon D700. Good for walk-around photography: small, light and very sharp but you have to pay attention to field curvature at f:2.8 and f:4, which may leave borders out of focus. The problem virtually disappears from f:5.8 on, where the sharpness is great from border to border, comparable to the Nikon 16-35 mm f:4. Almost no distortion and negligible chromatic aberrations.

Comments about Nikon NIKKOR 28mm f/2.8 AIS Manual Focus Lens:
The resolving power of this lens is just ridiculous. It's just as good, if not better, than some Leica glass. Extremely sharp, light, small, built like a tank, dirt cheap for how good it is... If only they would've transferred the same optics to an autofocus version, however, shooting action with this thing isn't too much of a problem because it isn't hard to get proper focus with a 28mm lens, even at f/2.8.
