So what you get is a "better-than-standard" avenger/matthews style grip head for a few bucks less, with first class milling and plating. It's better because you get a solid aluminum washer (not sure if the big boys do that in all their heads - used to be fiber that would deteriorate, leaving you with a head that could kill lights or even people) AND the openings for booms and flags are ridged, giving great grip. And finally, the tightening knob... it's HUGE. This makes it much easier to torque it down (and release it)... but it will come as a shock when you first unpack it (I was like, "did they send junior gear??!?!"). It's a nice feature, but if your packing setup is tight, you may have to rethink - though most folks likely transport these in a box, dairy crate, or already on a stand (which means your stand bags could be a little stressed).

I was surprised at how heavy duty this thing was. It looks like a tiny piece of equipment in the photo but it's actually pretty substantial. I can see this thing outliving me.

Comments about Impact Grip Head for Lights and Accessories - 2.5" Diameter (Chrome):
We bought 6 of these to replace our older grip heads. We think these are an excellent buy. They seem to be very heavy duty and work with all the C-stands and arms we currently have. We love the large handle which makes it easy to tighten up on arms and flags. We really can't find any fault with them.

Added to an extension arm and light stand after almost ruining one of my strobes with a "cheap" as in construction not price boom stand. This is a much heavier duty setup and I'm very happy with it.

Used on a C stand to hold a boom light. These things are hosses. Despite our best efforts, we can't break these grip heads.
And, we no longer use the plastic variety.

works as well as a mathews or avenger head. build quality is right around an avenger, but almost as well as a mathews. Good to find an alternative to costly name brand heads.

Bigger than I thought, they will hold a lot of weight. Be careful tightening on to an aluminum light stand as they will "bite" into the stand and will be hard to get off.
