These lights are great for a number of reasons. First of all, they are inexpensive and easy to assemble. The quality of the light they produce is soft and easy on the eye. The amount of light they produce, while not brilliant seems adequate for digital photography even at ISO 100. I purchased these for a few reasons. I had to do a color test in the studio of a number of dilutions of a beverage. The color temperature of the lights were perfect for the client to see a line up of clear glasses and make some decisions on the brewing of the beverage for photography.
Secondly, there are times that I do not want to set up lights for a quick shot of something-these eliminate sync cords, flash packs, etc- down and dirty, but with a good soft quality light.
I recommend them for everyone from entry level shooters to the studio pro who just needs a quick light that still looks good.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

Ego lights are easy to set up, and offer a nice alternative when natural light is not available, or for use as a fill light. We carry two of these in a bin, because they need protection and don't break down. This makes them portable for our needs.

      Meh

      By Porter

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

Picked up one of these units on a blog recommendation, actually. I liked the results that the blogger showed. I hate to say, however, that the design is fairly shoddy, which makes the price a little outlandish. The tiny rubber stoppers inside, meant to hold the unit together, constantly pop off. One of the two bulbs that came with the unit seems to be working at half-power. The assembly is a little maddening as well. For what it is and it's size, I'm not sure why it doesn't come already assembled so it could be shored up and tightened to hold together in a more permanent fashion. Diffusion and color temp is good however. Brightness is fairly ok, but like I said, I received a dim bulb that I need to replace.

Comments about Lowel Ego Digital Imaging Fluorescent Light (120VAC):

I bought this light to use for food photography in my home. The light was easy to set up and the instructions were clear, but I was disappointed with the brightness of the bulbs and the color of the light.

This is a good "starter" product, but is not perfect.

PROS: Easy set-up, lightweight, easily portable, great for a novice photographer

CONS: Color of light was too blue, and light is not bright enough to use alone, unless you want moody night-time lighting.

I am still planning to keep this product but think I will eventually want a more elaborate set-up, or additional lights to support this light.

I needed a diffused white light for table-top photography of tiny objects ( jewelry, coins, etc.)This is perfect for my needs. It provides a strong light with no glare or hot spots. To avoid shadows, I use a very small table-top reading light on the oposite side, but if you don't mind a small, light shadow, it's fine used alone or with the included white card for a weak fill light. I highly recommend it.

I really like this light. I mostly use it to light up short video clips I put on YouTube. the reflector that comes with it is great fill. It was somewhat difficult to put together because I felt like I was going to break it since you have to bend and unfold certain parts. Just take your time and don't force it. Otherwise it's great and I recommend it.

Aside from the awkward assembly of this product, it is wonderful!! I use it for my food photography when there is no window light available, and it certainly does the job well. I've also used it for portraits in a pinch. The pictures come out great!

The entire experience is designed to be easy. [...] Lowel has done a great job of packaging the Ego as the illustrations on the box and the related directions made it a snap to assemble the light from box open to fabulous light in under 5-minutes. The only improvement I would suggest is to offer a box to store it in so you don't have to take it apart to cart it around.

This is a nice, inexpensive soft light for videography & photography. We are using it for video in a small room, so it's important that it not get hot. The color is quite blue, not warm. The thread on the bottom of a light is a standard camera/tripod mount, which is fine if you're a camera person, but caused my husband problems for a while because he kept trying to mount it on a mic stand and didn't have the connectors.

I almost always use the reflector board that comes with it. It gives a nice flat light that is great for food and small product photography.

I use this light for indoor photos for my food blog. My kitchen has zero natural light, and the Ego light provides consistent, even lighting for staged shots. I also mounted it on a tabletop tripod which is nice for changing the lighting effects slightly for each shoot.

I use it for food photography, mostly to put on my blog. It provides a nice even light, and the reflector is easy to maneuver to get the lighting I want. I didn't even realize it had a tripod mount...that makes it even more useful. I just keep it parked on a tripod near the table where I shoot, and it's always ready. It puts out enough light that I can handhold at 400 ISO with big apertures.

This is my second purchase of an Ego light. I use them for quick and easy food photography, and they're perfect for that task. They're quite easy to set up, and I just pull them out every time I need to snap a quick recipe shot. The ability to put them on light stands is also a huge plus.

I was looking for a simple lighting set up that would work in my small studio set up and would be very mobile. I bought 2 of these lights. They give nice even daylight, are so easy to use, they use little electricity and stay cool. I love the fact that they have a tripod mount. When mounted on a tripod I can not only tilt the light in any direction but also use as an overhead light by tilting 90 degrees so the light is above the table.

I wanted a simple lighting solution for non-professional food photography and this fits the bill perfectly. Naturally, it doesn't take the place of a professional lighting system, but it produces some terrific results without a lot of fuss and elaborate setup.
