The Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord is for use with Nikon D70s and D80 Digital SLR cameras. It adds greater convenience and ease of use in a wide variety of shooting situations, including long exposures and close-ups. Using the remote reduces camera shake for sharper images and the remote allows users to lock the camera shutter in Long Time Exposure (Bulb) mode. The cord is 3.3' (1 m) long.

I first bought a knock off version of this and it broke after a couple days use so I figured I would go ahead and buy the real one. It feels very sturdy and well constructed even though it is made out of plastic. It is very simple to use, you just plug it into the camera (I'm using a D80) and you are ready to go!
I use it almost anytime I put my camera on a tripod, even on very study ground you will get some camera shake if you manually press the shutter release. I know some of you are saying, "why not use the self timer!?" Well...I will never use the self time again (aside from portraits) because that self timer made me miss the perfect shot. I was shooting a restaurant by a pier and two Egrets (a large white bird) landed on either side of the pier (framing the restaurant) and I hit the shutter...only to loose the picture because of the 2 second self timer. I was shooting at night so no self timer was not possible. If I had this product I would have got the shot and probably made some money on it, it was that good!
Great product, I would recommend this to anyone who uses a DSLR.

The first MC-DC1 Remote Cord by Nikon lasted only a few weeks before it started comming apart at the plug-in element for the D80. I ordered an new one from B&H, after being assured that i was a fluke and the new one is stronger than that. The new one is just as flimsy and I am worried for its future. Treat is with care, as it prbably won't survive minimal trauma.

The good: When I pressed the button, the shutter tripped. The bad: When we shot with a 35 mm film camera, we could do the same thing with[$]cable release.

Comments about Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord:
Works as advertised. This accessory works better than the wireless remote if you have to stay completely behind the camera. The big limitation is the length of the cord. Still need an accessory that I can fire the camera from waaaaaay behind (e.g. 30 feet).

I use this product to shoot the night sky and capture the stars.
I love this product because now I don't have to stand outside for hours straight and hold down the shutter release. If I had to say what was not good about this product I would say nothing it's great. And perfect size.

For a long time since I crossed into the world of the DSLR with my D-80, I needed a good remote to fit with that body. This fits nicely.

I use this when I'm shooting long exposures on a tripod. Astrophotography. Lessens lens shake when exposure is made. Nice remote.
One drawback, sometimes its easy to get it into multiple exposure mode if you keep the remote down. Remedy is to delete the shots. No big deal in digital cameras, but something to watch out for.

I dig this for double duty tasking. Unlike the wireless remote, you can stand anywhere within three feet of camera. The wireless only allows front side of camera although good if you are subject. its handy dandy while you are looking at your subject trying to get them to smile and snap! picture taken of happy subject!

Comments about Nikon MC-DC1 Remote Cord:
This remote cord works wonderfully. I use it on my Nikon D80. The response time makes it feel like a traditional cable pin shutter release. It gets rid of the vibration, so it does the job.
I had purchased the less expensive wireless battery remote, and wasted my money. It blew through batteries so fast, it was no longer inexpensive.
Also, this wired remote allows me to snap the picture from behind the camera (unlike the wireless, with the infrared sensor on the front of the camera).

This is a great tool to use if you want to play with night lighting, take pictures of the stars or just experiment with new ways to light your subject with limited or no natural light available. I love that I don't have to hold the button, it locks in place and I can leave it hanging because it's on a cable while I play with lighting my subject.

I wish to comment on the shipping, i.e. UPS/USPS combined is the worst combination imaginable. Now that I have experienced this new flavor of shipping, I will never knowingly use it again.
