The Sigma 2x EX APO Tele Converter (also known as a tele-extender) will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

Note: Sigma APO Tele Converter 1.4x and 2x are dedicated teleconverter lenses. Due to the high optical quality of this teleconverter, this item will only fit and work with a select list of lenses. Please click here for a compatibility chart of all compatible lenses.

The DG denotes added coating that achieves the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor.

Was a little skeptical about the effectiveness of this Teleconverter. Took it for some test shots on my D600 and D7000. I cannot believe the results. Images very sharp with little or no negative effects. I bought this for my Sigma 70-200mm OS HSM (which is itself awesome). Both at effective 400mm and 500mm (DX) the photo's were way beyond the sharpness I expected.

Just got my TC few days ago. Using it with Nikon D90 and Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM Macro.
There is a huge gap between what you see in the viewfinder and what you actually get when looking at the image on a computer screen.
Images are not sharp as you would expect, colors are distorted arount the edges and after a comparison between images with and without the TC, it seems like a CROP will get a better resault than using the TC.

On the other hand, I'm aware that I got it only recently and will experience with it a bit more. Who knows, I might figure out how to enhance the quality.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

I have used it with a f2.8 70 to 200 mm Sigma lens to shoot softball games, wild life or birds. On a clear or even a cloudy day I have been able to get some excellent photos. At times using an aperture of f5.6 and 1/250 for action or higher depending on the situation. As I experiment with the converter and lens set up I can add more to the review.
I would recommend the teleconverter to a friend as it seems to be well made and in the short time I have had it I have taken some very good pictures using it.

I got this to pair up with my sigma 70-200 2.8 and have been shooting sports, and wildlife with it. It seems to work well. the only problem if encountered is that the mount to the lens comes loose after a while , you just have to click it back in so it's no big deal.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

I bought this teleconverter to use with my Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 lens. On my cropped sensor (asp-c) camera, I seldom need a lens longer than 150mm (225mm full-frame equivalent), so I could not justify buying a longer lens. The teleconverter brings my lens up to 100-300mm (150-450mm full-frame equivalent), which is perfect for my occasional need for a longer lens. The maximum aperture drops from 2.8 to 5.6, which is something I can live with. Autofocus works normally in bright light, perhaps a bit slower in low light. If you are a "pixel peeper", image sharpness may not be quite as good as using the lens alone, but I am quite happy with the results I've gotten.

First of all, sorry for my English level. I have been using the TC with a Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 and D800: good autofocus´ performance and regular sharpness. If you buy this TC, you should know that you will have to work with PS or another editor trying to improve the sharpness level. This TC is a good alternative if you don´t have the money for a 500mms prime lens.

I've only had limited use of product so far. I've used it with my Sigma 120 - 400 mm lens to shoot some birds. I found it did a nice job of making the birds larger but the images are softer. I expected this to a degree but some of it could be my eyesight which is not as good as it used to be so I may not be focusing that well. Since I have to manually focus with the extender on I believe I need to use a tripod since the lens and camera are hard to hold and focus at the same time. Since it is my first extender I think I will grow more comfortable with it as I use it some more.

I use this primarily with the Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 super telephoto lens. There is a very slight loss of contrast, but no other artifacts introduced into the RAW file (always shoot RAW! ;) ). OS (optical stabilization) with the Sigma lens worked just as good as without, and the Sigma OS is very good. Focus is, as stated in the compatibility matrix, manual only, so please don't blame the TC if you didn't pay attention to it.I have tried the teleconverter with all my other Nikkor lenses and have to say that success varies greatly. Some would not mount at all, others almost mounted but felt tight enough to not force them, and two of my primes mounted up and worked beautifully. (manual exposure control ONLY, but 95% of my shooting is in full manual control). All in all a great addition to my gear. I have taken several shots I would not have been able to without it. Use a tripod, monopod, or other device and you will not lose any of the sharpness off the lens attached to this.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

Was a little skeptical about the effectiveness of this Teleconverter. Took it for some test shots on my D600 and D7000. I cannot believe the results. Images very sharp with little or no negative effects. I bought this for my Sigma 70-200mm OS HSM (which is itself awesome). Both at effective 400mm and 500mm (DX) the photo's were way beyond the sharpness I expected.

As a nature photographer,I take quite a few bird shots and since I cannot afford a 1000mm fixed lens, this is the next best alternative for my hobby. It can only be used on a camera in manual mode, but provides a great option for those times when I need more lens. I would highly recommend this teleconverter.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

I recently got a chance to really try this Teleconverter out. I took a trip to the wild animal park in San Diego. I started out using a sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 which was working great. A bit later the animals started moving further and further away so I figured it was time to use the 2x Teleconverter to get some closer looking shots. Adding the 2x Teleconverter automaticly decreases for F-Stop by 2 stops so the best I could get was F/5.6 at 400mm (I think). The sun was shining so the lighting was perfect. I got some great shots of the rhinos. I've heard people complain about the Autofocus taking to long but, it was plenty fast enough for what I was doing. With the lighting I had I used this without a tripod and had very clear photos. It worked for the purpose I bought it for and think it's a great tool to have in the bag.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

I am working in nature-photography, so I have always to transport a lot of equipment and a lot of weight. that's the reason I'm interested to reduce weight as much as possible.
This teleconverter saves me at least 2 pounds!!
the quality? it's excellent! I know the discussions about optical quality of converters: there are species not worth speaking about, but this one gives you a quality of picture where you can't see the difference to without one if you are working precisely, to avoid usual mistakes (e.g.: leaving the tripod at home, taking the exposure-speed as quick as necessary etc. )
But with all the quality of production I can't understand why Sigma has not made the red mount helping points outside on the black barrel instead of hiding them at the interior. You have always to search for them.
I finally glued some on by myself, but I think that's a question of design !?
surely you have to know that you loose 2 steps of aperture, due to physical laws, but you get an enlargement of 2 too. And that's what I want.

Comments about Sigma 2x EX DG APO Teleconverter for Nikon AF:

Great product that fits most of my lenses, thereby doubling the amount of zoom I have. I have use the Nikon version of this, and the Sigma works exactly the same and provides the same amount of quality. The autofocus gets a bit quirky and longer focal lengths, but that is the unfortunate nature of the beast. Overall, I would definitely recommend this teleconverter.
