Questions? Ask our experts:

The Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300 mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600 mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

The DG denotes added coating that achieves the best color balance whilst cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor.

Was a little skeptical about the effectiveness of this Teleconverter. Took it for some test shots on my D600 and D7000. I cannot believe the results. Images very sharp with little or no negative effects. I bought this for my Sigma 70-200mm OS HSM (which is itself awesome). Both at effective 400mm and 500mm (DX) the photo's were way beyond the sharpness I expected.

Just got my TC few days ago. Using it with Nikon D90 and Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM Macro.
There is a huge gap between what you see in the viewfinder and what you actually get when looking at the image on a computer screen.
Images are not sharp as you would expect, colors are distorted arount the edges and after a comparison between images with and without the TC, it seems like a CROP will get a better resault than using the TC.

On the other hand, I'm aware that I got it only recently and will experience with it a bit more. Who knows, I might figure out how to enhance the quality.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

The 2.0 teleconverter is a dream come true for me and the rest of our marketing and communications group. We can't afford to purchase a giant, fast lens but we use this in combination with our fast f/2.8 70-200mm lens and the pictures are awesome. True things are a bit slower, but I've been using it outside for sports and even indoors throughout our school and it's so worth the money.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

I was hesitant to purchase this teleconverter to use with my Sigma 50-150 telephoto lens for my Nikon D7000 because of all the comments and answers to my question "if it was compatible with my lens and camera." I contacted Sigma and they said it would work with no problems. I got it from UPS a couple of weeks later and I am very happy with my decision. The lens works perfectly, when attached to this converter! No manual focusing as some customers thought and I love that I can reach out a bit further now and makes my 50-150 a lot more versatile!
Indoors I don't use the converter, but taking action shots of the surf on the North Shore, to hula dances at my daughter's school are great! I would highly recommend this teleconverter to a friend if he/she has the compatible Sigma lens listed on the website.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

I'm using this converter on the Sigma 150 to 500 mm lens. It works well on this lens. I haven't been able to try the converter on any other lens. Compatibility and that why I only gave this converter 4 stars out of 5. From what I have found so far is it works well on the 150 to 500 mm lens. autofocus does not work and it what I have expected from the compatibility chart.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

I don't need to shot at 400 mm very often, however, when I do I use my sigma 2x teleconverter. I bought it because I have the sigma 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens. Together, they work great. I have heard a lot of bad things about teleconverters and I have not found any of it to be true. The pictures I have taken have all looked very good.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

I have used it with a f2.8 70 to 200 mm Sigma lens to shoot softball games, wild life or birds. On a clear or even a cloudy day I have been able to get some excellent photos. At times using an aperture of f5.6 and 1/250 for action or higher depending on the situation. As I experiment with the converter and lens set up I can add more to the review.
I would recommend the teleconverter to a friend as it seems to be well made and in the short time I have had it I have taken some very good pictures using it.

I got this to pair up with my sigma 70-200 2.8 and have been shooting sports, and wildlife with it. It seems to work well. the only problem if encountered is that the mount to the lens comes loose after a while , you just have to click it back in so it's no big deal.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

I bought this teleconverter to use with my Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 lens. On my cropped sensor (asp-c) camera, I seldom need a lens longer than 150mm (225mm full-frame equivalent), so I could not justify buying a longer lens. The teleconverter brings my lens up to 100-300mm (150-450mm full-frame equivalent), which is perfect for my occasional need for a longer lens. The maximum aperture drops from 2.8 to 5.6, which is something I can live with. Autofocus works normally in bright light, perhaps a bit slower in low light. If you are a "pixel peeper", image sharpness may not be quite as good as using the lens alone, but I am quite happy with the results I've gotten.

First of all, sorry for my English level. I have been using the TC with a Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 and D800: good autofocus´ performance and regular sharpness. If you buy this TC, you should know that you will have to work with PS or another editor trying to improve the sharpness level. This TC is a good alternative if you don´t have the money for a 500mms prime lens.

I've only had limited use of product so far. I've used it with my Sigma 120 - 400 mm lens to shoot some birds. I found it did a nice job of making the birds larger but the images are softer. I expected this to a degree but some of it could be my eyesight which is not as good as it used to be so I may not be focusing that well. Since I have to manually focus with the extender on I believe I need to use a tripod since the lens and camera are hard to hold and focus at the same time. Since it is my first extender I think I will grow more comfortable with it as I use it some more.

Comments about Sigma 2.0X Teleconverter EX APO DG for Nikon AF:

I use this primarily with the Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 super telephoto lens. There is a very slight loss of contrast, but no other artifacts introduced into the RAW file (always shoot RAW! ;) ). OS (optical stabilization) with the Sigma lens worked just as good as without, and the Sigma OS is very good. Focus is, as stated in the compatibility matrix, manual only, so please don't blame the TC if you didn't pay attention to it.I have tried the teleconverter with all my other Nikkor lenses and have to say that success varies greatly. Some would not mount at all, others almost mounted but felt tight enough to not force them, and two of my primes mounted up and worked beautifully. (manual exposure control ONLY, but 95% of my shooting is in full manual control). All in all a great addition to my gear. I have taken several shots I would not have been able to without it. Use a tripod, monopod, or other device and you will not lose any of the sharpness off the lens attached to this.
