The Arca-Swiss Svilt Quick Release Adapter is an "L" shaped quick release plate that fits into any Arca Swiss-type quick release system, and provides a Flip-Lock adapter at 90° to the head's quick release.
The advantage of this plate is to allow the use of the ballhead in the 90° vertical orientation position, limiting the ball movement to tilt operation only. This greatly simplifies the control of long, heavy telephoto lenses and is heartily recommended.

Comments about Arca-Swiss Svilt Quick Release Adapter with Flip-Lock (Simulates Gimbal Head):
I used this on my Jobu Design BWG-J2 Black Widow Jr. 2 Gimbal Tripod Head. Using my Canon 300mm f2.8 on the Jobu gimbel head without the Arca Swiss 90 Degree attachment, restricted my level of upward tilt. With the attachment, I now can tilt the lens/camera assembly as much as 80 degrees, thus allowing more flexability in my nature photography. It works great and looks and is a very precision part, but that's a lot of bucks for the attachment. I guess the high cost is because there's only a very small market for the angle product.
