Great filter!! I purchased this for a 12-24mm Tokina. I decided to go with a clear over a UV for my new wide lens because I wanted to see if I would get more natural colors. I won't be able to tell unless I order a UV filter to use on the same lens... but compared to the pictures on 50mm prime which has a UV filter, the colors seem to be slightly more crisp.
As far as the build quality goes... You can definitely tell the difference between this filter and the over priced cheapo plastic Quantaray and Tiffen filters. I also have a B+W filter and while they both are high quality glass, the construction of the metal ring looks a not more solid on the Hoya.
I also found the Hoya to cost significantly less. Overall, I'm very happy with Hoya and will probably buy it as my filter of choice.

I use this filter with at 70-200 mm lens as a protector. I had a little disappointment since this lens has a little amber coloration. Not that much but, compared to some other lens, for $20 more dollars, it could have been better.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Clear Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
I had already thought this filter to be terrific for its low profile, but then it went way beyond that: The main reason I use a filter is to protect my lens, and my Hoya filter did just that. I was on vacation and using a public restroom, and I hung my camera bag on the hook on the back of the door, and it fell off hitting the floor. My camera was in my bag lens down so it was my Hoya filter that took the brunt of the impact. The filter shattered but my lens was protected and still perfectly fine. I'll be getting a new filter to replace it, but had it not been for the filter I would have to be replacing my lens right now. This filter saved me A LOT of money! I recommend everyone get one today!

I use these on all my lenses, as I use them frequently near salt water, spray, and in dirty environments. They come off easily. It is very hard to find any difference between pictures shot through the filter, and shot without the filter exactly what I want from a protective glass filter. I got it for my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

Recommended. I use these on all expensive lenses, as I use them frequently near salt water, spray, and in dirty environments. They come off easily. It is _very_ hard to find any IQ difference between pictures shot through the filter, and shot without the filter -- exactly what I want from a protective glass filter.

Great optical quality. Construction is typical Hoya, good but not the best. The finish on Pro 1 series is different from normal HMC version. The only downside is that I found the filter difficult to clean, too sticky. I read that the new HD version is easier to clean. But it's too pricey for me.

I use this on my Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 all the time. It protected my expensive lens on 2 seperate occaisions. Once after my dog knocked the camera over. The filter shattered but the lens was in excellent shape. The second incident is where the camera slipped off a stadium seat and the same thing happened. It is a Lifesaver !!

Used on my Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II
I have the UV version on most of my other lenses, but for half the price the straight up clear filter seemed like a great idea... The main goal is added protection without sacrificing image quality so far so good. The canon lens is tack sharp, so there's not a lot of monkeying you need to do to make it better.

Used on Tokina 11-16, Nikon 80-200, and Nikon 17-55. Crystal clear and protects my glass... no-brainer! Significant improvement from tiffen filters.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Clear Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
I just wanted a reasonably-priced, well made, clear filter to protect a rather expensive lens. This did the trick very nicely.
A better case would have been nice instead of the cheap plastic, but since this filter will spend most of its life on the lens it's not too big a deal.
