The Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are highly susceptible to reflections. This stray light can ruin your photographs with flare and ghosting. Hoya Digital Multi-Coating reduces any internal reflections, which means a clearer image with greater contrast.

A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to it as "cheap insurance".

As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times. Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters render your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct and acceptable image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting. Digital Multi-Coating takes this protection to a higher level.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

Note! Pro 1 Digital filters are ultra thin, but have a front thread

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter:

Really nice filter, crystal clear, very thin and well built, and the pictures looks like you don't even have it on the lens - what more can you ask for. Don't buy the cheap ones, you spend so much on a lens, buy a filter that won't reduce your image quality. Beware, you can find it cheaper on [@] from HK or Korea, but there are a lot of knock-offs of Hoya filters and for the 10$ saving getting a knock-off isn't worth it, with B&H you wouldn't have to worry about authenticity.

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter:

I was using a Bower UV prior to this filter on my Canon 50mm f/1.4. When I changed it to the Hoya Pro 1 my life changed to. The difference is huge!! The ghosting and the flares suddenly were gone, and my pictures at night improved amazingly! This is a great product, do not hesitate on buying it!! Besides, the low profile design is great, and the cap of the lens fits perfect!!

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter:

I've used Hoya products for decades and their quality and performance is unmatched. I particularly appreciate the look of the low profile frame, and the lens cap still attaches securely. I find that my seascapes and landscapes are clearer and sharper without the blue hazy tint. The fact that it comes with a UV protected case is reassuring for those rare times when it is not mounted to the lens.

Beside one of the filter designed with a lot of technology excellence behind it, I actually saw it made the image a little sharper right out of the box. Still looking for a better filter for the money, so far haven't found another yet. Unsure of effects of repeated washings of smudges will do to the coatings.

Not much to say. It fits snugly on my Canon HF-G10 and does its job (primarily protecting the lens!)

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter:

I have a UV filter on every lens I own. If it scratches or breaks it is a lot easier and cheaper to replace than the lens. Purists may argue about having one more thing between the light and the sensor but practically I think having something on the end of the lens to protect it is a no brainer. This one from Hoya is great and i always buy the same one. Works great.

This is the second Pro 1 filter that I've put on my lenses. The glass is so clear that when you take it out of the box you'll swear they just sold you only the mounting ring. No lie: you'll try to stick your finger through it. No matter what angle you look at it from, you cannot see any reflections from the glass.

It's very low profile, and so far, the coatings and glass seem to be very durable.
