Questions? Ask our experts:

The Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

Digital camera CCD or CMOS sensors are highly susceptible to reflections. This stray light can ruin your photographs with flare and ghosting. Hoya Digital Multi-Coating reduces any internal reflections, which means a clearer image with greater contrast.

A UV filter not only minimizes the bluish cast sometimes found under daylight conditions, but is also the best available protection against accidental damage to the front element of your lens. A lens that accidentally gets dropped on its front element while hiking can potentially be saved by purchasing this item. Some people refer to it as "cheap insurance".

As a lens protector, it should be left on at all times. Aside from that more-than-significant benefit, UV filters render your photos clearer, sharper and more contrasty. For those who enjoy outdoor photography, especially distant vistas, a UV filter can produce a more distinct and acceptable image by removing much of the blue tint normally associated with atmospheric haze.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting. Digital Multi-Coating takes this protection to a higher level.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

Note: Pro 1 Digital filters are ultra thin, but have a front thread

UV Protected Case
Filter cases are UV protected, which further lengthens the life of filters

I had a ProMaster UV filter on my lens mainly to protect it from scratches and noticed that I had a hard time with the auto focus function on my older model camera in low light situations. Decided to upgrade to the HOYA and probelm solved. While I haven't noticed a significant change in image quality, I am pleased with the results so far.

The general consensus is right. Hoya provides a good filter, but their products are hard to get completely clean. I've tried three kinds of cleaners made specifically for electronics and cameras, and they leave a slight film on the glass surface. I have used a clean dry microfiber cloth and it does an okay job of getting the film off, but there's no perfect system with these filters. Tight budget? Buy Hoya. Got a little extra cash? Spend a little more and get a B+W filter, which are a dream to clean and keep clean.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet (UV) Pro 1 Digital Filter:

I use this filter mainly as a protection for my Nikon 18-140mm lens. Not that it will protect from flying rocks, etc. but it keeps the lens clean and if dust or dirt does appear I can clean the filter to solve the problem rather than risk cleaning the lens. I suspect that any piece of glass placed in front of my lens will have some effect but given the quality of this filter those effects are minimal. It is well worth the money.

very thin, much thinner than previous filter I used so much less vignetting at wide angle. Has threads that allow additional filter to be added. Also like finger grip ridges on rim that makes removing filter easier - especially important for narrow filter. Very pleased with it

Optically perfect as far as I can tell, slim and unobtrusive. Just the thing to protect your lenses.

Bought this one for my Canon 70-200 f/4 IS lens. It's a no brainer to always keep some kind of filter on a lens, if only just for the protection. I own many Hoya brand lenses and have been satisfied with their build quality, ease of installation, and reasonable prices. Can't comment on the effect on picture of this lens compared to other brand filters, but for my purposes it performs well.
