The Hoya Pro 1 Digital Circular Polarizer takes advantage of Hoya's patented optical glass technology to create a hardened glass that is thinner than the normal optical glass. This allows the overall thickness of the filter to be reduced to avoid vignetting when used with ultra-wide angle lenses.
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems); Pro 1 Digital filters are ultra thin but have a front thread

I use the polarizer on various Canon lenses for my 5D. I wanted a thin frame, multicoating and front threads. The frame is sturdy and of high quality, what I would expect from Hoya products which I have used for over 40 years. Smooth turning and knurled rim are nice. No cut off problem with any of my lenses.
The only difficulty is in mounting the filter firmly enough on the lens so the whole filter assembly doesn't spin when I am using it.

I have read a lot of reviews before ordering and many guys mentioned it stuck to lens. I didn't pay much attention on this as I already had slim Hoya polarizer on my old lens and from time to time made some efforts to remove it from lens, but never something extraordinary. Moreover highest overall rating here convinced that filter is great. So, I got it, unpacked and attached to lens for first shot. And it had stuck! No. It HAD STUCK!!! I can't remove it by any simple way. Many people recommended to use some rubber band, but I didn't found any in my house at those moment. Fortunately, I have a daughter and she has a lot of hair rubber bands, so finally I was happy to remove it, put back to box and send back to seller. I can't believe filter with name Pro and such price needs to apply any rubber band.
Moreover, it has light vignetting on my 17-55 lens, and this is not a great problem itself, but...
Despite all of above, filter is durable and has good image quality.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
I like this much better than other polarizers I have, due to the lower profile this filter has. I used it with an ultra-wide angle lens with no vignetting. It's terrific!

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
This polarizing filter is used to reduce glare from surfaces of water and glass nd to enrich blueness of skies. It performs well at its job, but its thinness, a photographic asset, makes it difficult to install and remove since the rotating outer ring and the threaded static inner ring are so thin, and the friction beteen them so high, that they tend to rotate as a unit when using the filter, while the static ring cannot be isolated for easy threading onto or removal from the lens.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
Very useful for removing glare and haze, and for making this puffy clouds "pop." Hoya makes a very nice product; it;s study and easy to grab. It rotates smoothly but not too loosely. It costs a little more than Tiffen or some generics, but well worth it.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
Since the filer is only 3mm thick it will not result in any vignetting, even on the widest lenses. It has the front thread, so regular lens cap should work. However, thin ring makes it harder to hold and rotate when the lens hood is attached.

I like this line of filters from Hoya. The Pro 1 are very thin and don't affect wide angle lenses like normal filter (24mm on Full Frame). A great value for the price.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter:
Although a bit pricey because of its 77mm size, a polarizing filter is an absolute must when shooting scenics and landscapes to cut through the haze and make the colors really pop. It deepens blue skies, makes clouds appear whiter and puffier, makes green pastures much lusher looking. When shooting water scenes or windows, it eliminates glare and makes those mediums more transparent. I won't shoot scenics without one.
