      Great sound, terrible design.

Comments about Tivoli Model Three AM/FM Clock Radio (Metallic Taupe/Cherry):

The good: really terrific sound and accurate tuning.

The bad: The design of this unit is pretty lousy. The markings for the controls are so faint I can barely read them; The clock has this weird rotating bezel for setting the alarm that is cumbersome and feels weird and unpleasant when you turn it - and only turns in one direction. The bezel also obscures the view of the clock face unless you're viewing dead on; the other knobs are too smooth and also require too much force to operate comfortably. Then there is this bright yellow l.e.d. to indicate the strength of tuning, smack in the middle of the front panel, brighter than anything else. Ugly and unnecessary
I also find it really irksome that there is no tone control on this unit. Tivoli obviously takes sound very seriously; you can attach a second speaker for stereo and even a subwoofer, but no tone control? That's a huge oversight in my opinion. There are times when listening to talk radio when I'd like to roll of the bass but can't.
You would think that when you buy tabletop/clock radio at a $240 price point, the basics of good ergonomics would covered, but not with this thing. And it's not like a clock radio is new technology. Disappointing.

Comments about Tivoli Model Three AM/FM Clock Radio (Metallic Taupe/Cherry):

This is in a different class than the plastic digitized things in most electronics stores. It has resonant audio, simple design/operation, a handsome cabinet, and it picks up weak radio signals (further improved with the antenna).

We liked it so much we bought a second one for our guest bedroom. I've had the first one about 5 years with no problems. Besides being attractive and having good sound, we wanted guests to have a radio/alarm that's simple and intuitive to operate.

Comments about Tivoli Model Three AM/FM Clock Radio (Metallic Taupe/Cherry):

I searched high and low for a great looking and sounding alarm clock. Time and again I fought paying for a Tivoli. But ultimately, there were no strong competitors. The Tivoli is lovely to look at, so easy to tune, and the sound excellent. But for the price I was bummed when mine came and the quartz clocked didn't work. I'm anxiously waiting for a replacement and crossing my fingers the new unit will hold up Tivoli's reputation for quality merchandise. It usually pays to just buy great stuff -- do it once and forget about it for many years. That's what I'm hoping for.

Comments about Tivoli Model Three AM/FM Clock Radio (Metallic Taupe/Cherry):

I bought this as present for my wife and she loves it.

The pros: Great design, amazing sounding radio, really nice finish, great wood case finish, great feel on all the dials and the tuner. Alarm beep isn't annoying and of course you can always wake up to your favourite radio station.

The cons: This radio takes up a lot of real estate on a night table so you may want to take a few measurements to know how it will fit. The material used on the tuner knob isn't great and is prone to wearing - ours didn't do this but we bought a new one that already had a worn knob so the paint looked scuffed - we exchanged it for another one. The alarm mechanism is difficult to work with in the dark. The alarm mechanism is also hard to work with if you need to reset the alarm continuously over the course of an evening - if you only need to set it and forget about it then there would be no problem. The price is a bit high for a mono radio too. I read a few reviews saying that the light on the clock was too bright but I disagree - matter of taste though.

That said, I love this radio and am planning to get the second speaker alarm clock to go on my night table.

We hook an iPod to the back of this and it sounds great - even in mono. Great reception and sound on AM and FM bands and the nice warm sound is great for listening to podcasts.

Although I would hesitate to take this radio out too often it is fairly portable and can run on batteries too.

Overall I would recommend Tivoli Model Three Alarm Clock radio if you can find it for less than the regular MSRP - which we did. I think at full price it might not be quite worth it and competing products may be worth a second look.

We paid the lower B&H price and are quite happy.

Comments about Tivoli Model Three AM/FM Clock Radio (Metallic Taupe/Cherry):

I love the way the radio looks; I like that there's a console for each side of the bed. The sound is wonderful, the reception is great...I haven't tried to play my ipod through it yet. BUT: the "sleep" timer only lasts 20 (!) minutes, and while there's a clock on both components, only one-- only the main stereo-- has a volume knob. These are the only two drawbacks we've seen. And it sure does look and sound great...
