Comments about Westone ER-25 - Clear 25dB Filters for ES49 Musicians Earplugs - Pair:

I bought these filters as an upgrade from the ER-15's, which I have been using with my Westone custom molded earplugs for a couple years now. I am now playing drums in a much louder band than before, and found I needed more hearing protection. These filters make an audible difference in noise reduction, while still maintaining a much more 'musical' sound than cheaper foam earplugs. Westone provides a chart of frequency attenuation for each of the ER models, and to my ears, the ER-25's conform pretty closely to the chart. They do tend to cut highs (8k and above) disproportionately, and the rest of the spectrum isn't completely flat; however, I greatly prefer these to any other earplugs I've tried. They allow you to still enjoy the music that you're playing, and feel like you're in the same room with the rest of your band, while protecting your hearing at a level close to foam earplugs (which are generally in the 30-32dB range).
