The Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff is a zip-on furry cover with deep artificial fur that fits snugly over the NTG-1 and NTG-2 microphones. The Wind Muff greatly reduces wind noise when recording in windy conditions.

Rode's video mike is great at getting sound from a distance but the stock foam cover doesn't work well for wind above slow breeze. This deadcat kills virtually wind noise, and the smooth lining, small velcro tab make for easy removal when you go back inside. Used it for a wedding at the top of a ski mountain while storm blew in from 8 miles out. The guests could scarcely hear the mothers, but the mic and deadcat gave me great sound for the DVD. If you plan to record outside - and you will - get a deadcat. WAY cheaper than a sound guy...

Does what it's suppose to do, especially outside with a breeze. I like shooting outside, so it's helpful. I have more problems with white noise coming from the mic than wind noise from the air. I would have rated 4 stars if it didn't seem like it looses hair like an actual cat.

Had an issue with wind noise from shotgun mic on UD video camera. This economical solution helped a great deal. You can either find a dead cat and skin it yourself or pick on up for a very reasonable cost of B&H. I suggest the latter.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
I bought the Rode Deadcat along with my Rode Video Mic. It works great - no worries there. But the price? C'mon, man!
I built a wind muffler for another of my shotgun mics using the fur headband from a Dollar Tree Santa Hat. Seriously. Head-to-head, you'd have a difficult time determining me which one I used in which videos.
Good product, but severely overpriced.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
I am amazed at how well this dead cat works. It was a very windy day last week so I thought I would give this hairy thing a workout. I took my daughter to the park with gail force winds. I held up my camcorder to catch even more wind...I said to my self, no way will this thing work. I couldn't wait to play the video when I got home. Well...I had to eat my words. I could hear my daughter perfectly through the wind. Her voice was clear as a bell. I did hear a very small hiss but the auto was very good on this very windy day. I bought this because I have an out door wedding to video tape next week. I am no longer concerned about out door wind problems. Just one thing...you may have to cut just a small amount of hair off this dead cat, only because you may see some of the hairs hanging down on your video, especially if you use a wide angle lens.

This windsock is definately of benefit in cutting down on mild wind noise, but if your in any sort of medium to high wind area this is not the best performer.

Gave it 4 stars because occasionaly it sheds a few hairs which get on my case and mic but it easily comes off. Great filter, removes all most all wind noise.

Cuts down wind considerably. It's thin, and packs flat. Goes on over the foam. Helps, but nothing's going to silence a strong wind. It's a good intermediate step above basic foam and more advanced tools.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
If you can't afford a full zeppelin, go with this cover. It doesn't fit many other mics but if you have an NTG-1 or 2 this is a cheap solution for high wind situations.

Comments about Rode Dead Cat Wind Muff for NTG-1 and NTG-2 Microphones:
I bought this to cover up my Rode NTG-2 microphone that I purchased from the B and H used section and I find that it is a hit or miss. The little bit of filming that I have done outside I must admit has been pretty wind free, but if you have the mic hooked up to a camera that is on a car boom like I had it, it allowed for a good amount of wind to come through. The audio quality was still great it was just obnoxious.

As I own a Rode NTG-2 this was the perfect accessory. Yes there is a cheaper one available, but I would rather buy from the manufacturer of the microphone so I don't miss a beat. I know it will fit and work well.

You are planning to shoot outdoors and there is no way in the whole universe that you have the power to control the environment?
Let me tell you one thing:
Wind will happen.
And putting some kind of cloth around the mic will make things worse.
So instead of gutting that teddy bear you had since you were two, buy this.
You won't regret it.
