Tokina's lens is well made, and out performs expectations. Well crafted and performs well in low light. Macro capability is nice, even better when paired with a remote switch and tripod. Great for portraits so long as you don't mind taking a step or two back. Can't speak for durability, but I've never had a problem mishandling my equipment. Thought the depth of field was shallow, turns out it was my view finder. No issues to report; simple and easy to use.

For the price this lens really is a deal. Sure it doesn't have a quiet motor or USM/IS but it focuses decently (though I admit I go manual as I don't have patience for AF). I've taken some great pics with this lens and am just getting started. If IS/USM aren't huge for you and you'll be using a tripod then don't bother spending twice the amount on the nicer Canon lens.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I purchased this lens for macro shots of insects and plants. I originally purchased a Canon 50mm compact macro lens, but after being disappointed, I sent it back. Next I decided on the Canon 100mm macro, but was held back by thy price. I read the good reviews for this lens and decided to take a chance. I am not disappointed.

The cons in the reviews are true, but don't really bother me. It does have a slow autofocus, but I shoot in manual so no problem there. It is heavy, but to me that means a more durable build. The weight doesn't bother me and so far my tripod hasn't complained either. The images are sharp.

As soon as my lens came in the mail, I took it out and started taking pictures with it! I am totally loving this lens! You can get really close to the subject and focus which is cool and it produces a nice, sharp image. I'm so glad I got it!!

Needed a cheaper lens as I only use it to shoot wedding rings. Works for what I need it for. But I don't see using it for everyday product photography. Better off with the Canon 100.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

I have the Canon EF-S 60mm macro lens and use it on my 7D. I wanted a macro lens for my full frame cameras but I knew I would not use it a lot so I searched for a used lens.

Even those prices were more than I wanted to pay for a lens that will sit unused a lot.

I have rented Tokina lenses before and was always impressed by their no frills quality. So I researched this lens, liked what I read and ordered one.

I have not tried it on flowers yet, which is what I wanted it for, but have been impressed with my test shots so far.

Well constructed, great color reproduction and I actually prefer the manual focus. I had a very small spot in my roller bag and this lens just fit in it.

I recommend this lens for the occasional macro shooter.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

This lens really is a great value. I use the lens primarily for portraits and still life photos. It's quite sharp and has nice bokeh on my Canon 6d. The build quality is very good. The autofocus is a little slower than I'm used to at portrait distances, but in good light it's not horrible considering it does not have a USM focusing system. The focus ring is well damped, which helps make manual focusing at macro distances much easier. CA is a little higher than I expected, but not terrible. Overall, I'd say you can't beat this lens for the current price.

I've had other lenses that claim to be macro, but this is the first dedicated macro lens. It is amazing! It's fast, crazy sharp and produces excellent images. The reviews I saw had it at a level with the big name lenses, only hundreds of dollars less. All true.If you're on the fence about which to get for yourself, take the plunge. This is a great lens!I like the auto/manual focusing clutch. Much easier than finding a button to go between the two.Being a 2.8 max aperature, it's pretty fast.It has a solid feel and things don't rattle around inside. And the images are FANTASTIC!

I am a serious amateur photographer always looking for a great lens with a reasonable price. I often look for used lenses because they have more of a cheap price than a brand new lens and when I came across the Tokina macro lens, I had to see what this lens can do. I am not stranger to the Tokina brand I own a Tokina 11-16 ultra wide angle lens and that is my work horse lens and it always delivers! I LOVE their lenses so when I was looking for a macro lens I checked this out and did my comparison to Canon and Nikon. I tried the Canon 100mm 2.8L and it's really good. The Tokina macro, I can say is so close to the image quality. I am very happy with this lens and the way it's made is so surprisingly strong. When I took it out of the box for the first time I can already feel how well this lens is made. It feels very solid for a plastic body. I was so amazed that this lens has 9 blades where Canon and Nikon has only 8 blades and with sun stars this lens brings them out with its 9 blades! So far i have taken photos of my family and friends and a lot of macro shots and I am very very pleased with the results. Would I get a Canon L macro lens? Sure! If I was rich making tons of money. This Tokina is a pleasure to work with and yes, I did consider buying a used Canon USM lens but after the reviews and comparisons I've done, Tokina won me over. Not only because of the price but also because of how good this lens is made and the quality photos it always delivers. If your a serious amateur photographer like me, I highly recommend this lens.

In fact, the Tokina 100mm macro was so good, that i decided to sell me Canon lens just to get some extra cash.Bottomline line is that this lens is super sharp and I would recommend this to any pro videographer or photographer!!!

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

For the price this lens really is a deal. Sure it doesn't have a quiet motor or USM/IS but it focuses decently (though I admit I go manual as I don't have patience for AF). I've taken some great pics with this lens and am just getting started. If IS/USM aren't huge for you and you'll be using a tripod then don't bother spending twice the amount on the nicer Canon lens.

So far I've been pleased with this lens. Depth of field, even when I close the aperture all the way down, has been a bit of a task for me. But whatever part of the insect, or flower, or whatever I've shot, that is in focus is as crisp and clean as I could ever want. Even upon magnification, that crispness stays intact until the photograph begins to pixelate. The unique switch between autofocus/manual has not bothered me at all. In short, I like the quality, I like the price.

I purchased this lens to photograph jewellery. The focus depth of field is disappointing. Not as sharp as it should be. I tried the Canon version and the canon is superior. Retuning the Tokina!

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:

The reason I bought this lens is due to its ability to be used on film bodies as well as digital. I find myself moving more toward film and this lens is excellent. The close-up capabilities are great, even though it extends out away from the lense body. Using it as a portrait lens gives me more flexibility for closeup photography of lips or the eyes, or just general portrait work. Canon does make a wide variety of professional lenses, but I am finding some very reasonable alternatives in Tokina and Tamron. They don't break the bank in cost and due to their cost I am able to acquire a wider variety. Maybe one day I will find that one lens which covers all my needs, but until then I will continue to use this fine product for the duration of this photographic experience. Reading the reviews can help in your decision, but once you try this out you most likely will change your mind on the Canon only concept. This is a fantastic lens.
