Bought mine here (BH) and just put it through a 3 day shoot that covered Nevada from border to border.
A Tripod A Must! But you know that.

From pulling in the most distant, shadowed mountains to up close and personal with the vivid roadside blooms, I had no worries w/this lens.
Can you pay more? Sure. But would you get more

I use this lens on a Sony Alpha SLT-A57 camera.
For the money it's not too bad a lens. Yes, the sides of the frame is soft at 300mm and it does take a while to focus at times. But, It looks and feels solid and didn't cost a fortune. To me it doesn't really look like a super cheap lens. I have taken some real nice wildlife and macro photos with this lens. I'm happy with it for the price I paid.

I adquired this lense recently and I am still not quite acquainted with it,but I find it easy to handle and relatively light.
At macre range it's easier to focus at MF modus.
The quality is good for its price.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Sony and Minolta Cameras:

You can't beat the lens for an affordable zoom. I haven't had any problems with the auto focus or performance. It's well made, and takes a nice crisp photo. I've been having a lot of fun with it. The macro setting lets you focus from a bit closer, and does nicely shooting things like flowers or bugs. It is not really so good for up close things like for instance shooting still shots of crystals and stones, you have to get too far back from things to shoot. But then, it's pretty tough to get one lens that does EVERYTHING. For the price, this is a pretty decent lens for your bag. :)

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Sony and Minolta Cameras:

I am an amature/hobby photographer. I wanted a lens to do some macro work with in the zoom setting but didnt want to spend alot of money on a lens I wouldnt use that much. This lens fit into the price range I was willing to spend considering my usage and purpose of the lens. I was actually quite surprised with the outcome of the lens. Not having much experience to draw from or to compare with, this lens actually did exactly what I wanted. Amazing results!! The macro zoom setting on this lens in video mode is exactly what I was looking for. Riveting video on detail I never imagined.

Things that arent so great? I guess the zoom mechanism feels abit like small sand got in there....but I didnt care because I bought the lens for what it would look like and not feel like. Bottom line...satisfied.

I live on an 80 acre farm. I see alot of surises and sunsets. I am always taking pictures of everything. Turkeys, deer, dogs, grandkids. There are times I don't want the kids and grandkids to know they are getting their picture takin. This way I can get shots of what they are doing, without them knowing. My 5 year old granddaughter got her first camera for christmas. A couple of days later, she with her new camera and myself with my camera and knew lense, took a hike into the woods. We took picture of everything. It was a great day. I got to spend time with my granddaughter, who likes taking pictures just like me.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Sony and Minolta Cameras:

I recently purchased this lens based on the glowing reviews I read here. I have the Sony NEX-VG10 and thinking that this could be a great lens addition to my kit - I was extremely disappointed, to say the least. The lens is basically useless with a NEX camera. I don't even know why they bothered making the SONY version of this lens. Any stock SONY lens will blow this away and renders this SIGMA lens useless and unless you are seeking an inferior lens then...this is for you. After attaching the lens with my SONY a-mount lens adapter and working through the SIGMA instructions it was not even worth it. The lens cannot focus automatically and has a very hard time focusing manually and is useless under dim or dark conditions and marginal in ideal conditions; the SIGMA lens is heavy and bulky and makes the VG10 camera very front heavy and edIn short, it's a waste of tim and money. It will no doubt soon leave you frustrated and wondering why did SIGMA even bother. If you want a good lens then spend more and get one! Save your money and get something better especially, if you have an NEX SONY camera. I can't speak for their other versions for Nikon etc.

This is the 2nd 70-300 Sigma lens I've purchased (SONY SLR camera body has challenges). It's generally a good lens for the price (under $200), but the first one had a slight problem w/ the auto-focus. I'm hoping this one is better. It's light-weight, good for an amateur like me. What I really want is an 18-300mm that is compatible w/ the SONY camera body.

The world at the fingertips and this is always the best place to shop online - period.

Great price, great shots....fantastic clarity. Don't know if I have a great steady hand or what but this is used with a Sony a290 and I have been using it everyday for a week and still haven't had an issue with shake. Never had the need to use with tripod yet.

I've only marked a few "Best uses" simply because I haven't had the chance yet to try them all.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Sony and Minolta Cameras:

So far I am really enjoy this lens. It is sturdy and solid which makes it a somewhat heavy but it's not a big deal once you get use to it. It is a inexpensive lens, however I have not noticed any chromatic aberration as of yet, like the ones mentioned in other reviews.

It works best in good lighting situations, low light has some issues that can be addressed by camera settings.

This is perfect for a beginner, and even a semi-pro like myself, and it makes for a great backup telephoto lens for field use outdoors and so forth.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for Sony and Minolta Cameras:

I really enjoy using this lens. It is solid and well made. That makes it a little heavy but it's not a big deal. Since it is a cheap lens it has some chromatic aberration but you're not really going to find a lens in this price range that doesn't. Overall, I really enjoy it.
