The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens from Canon is a versatile, easy-to-use standard zoom lens that covers a focal range from wide-angle to portrait-length telephoto. Its constant maximum aperture of f/4 provides effective consistency when at the telephoto end of the zoom range.

The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens series, combining the highest standards of precision optics and operability with dust and moisture resistant construction. Canon's ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides silent and quick autofocus as well as full-time manual focus override. Optical image stabilization enables up to 3-stops of compensation against the effects of camera shake and one Super-UD and three aspherical lens elements minimize aberrations for overall optical clarity.

With impeccable construction and comfortable handling, this is a durable yet sophisticated lens that meets the demands of advanced amateur photographers and professional photographers alike.

Image Stabilizer
Ideal for handheld work, IS Optical Image Stabilizer allows use of shutter speeds up to 3-stops slower with no perceptible increase in image blur.
Fixed Aperture
With no change in aperture over the full focal length range, photographers can set exposure at the widest aperture and zoom through to 105mm without slowing shutter speed.
Super UD and Aspherical Lens Elements
Constructed with one Super-UD glass element and three aspherical lenses, this lens minimizes chromatic aberration and distortion. The result is excellent picture quality, even at wide apertures.
Ring USM
Ring USM (Ultrasonic motor) uses ultrasonic frequency vibrations to drive responsive, near-silent high speed auto focus. Good holding torque stops the focusing lens group with precision without overshoot. Full time manual focus override is available without having to switch out of AF.
Super Spectra Coatings
Optimized Super Spectra lens coatings and lens element shaping suppress flare and ghosting - more prone to occur with digital cameras due to reflection off the image sensor. Coatings also help achieve true color balance and increase contrast for vivid hi-fidelity images.

This would have to be the most versatile lens that I have ever owned, It's a true workhorse. Most of the time I prefer to use primes, but in fast moving situations, like events, where time is of the essence this really is the go to lens. It's wide range of focal lengths allows you to rapidly acquire a range of different types of shots without missing the moment
    .
Optically it's a good performer, it's pretty sharp wide open at all apertures maybe a bit softer at the telephoto end. At 105mm wide open it makes for a usable portrait lens, with a narrow enough depth of field to throw the background out of focus. The quality of the bokeh is smooth and it handles specular highlights very well, stopped down these remain circular.

At the 24mm there are two predictable problems; noticeable barrel distortion and pretty strong vignetting wide open that doesn't truly go away until f8. Both of these issues are hardly surprising on a zoom lens with such a large range of focal lengths and thankfully both can be somewhat circumvented in programs like Aperture or Lightroom.
    .
The build quality is second to none and importantly the lens is weather sealed; I have no problem using this lens in pouring rain on my 5d mk2 and I have done so a number of times with no ill effect. All controls are smooth, the only complaint is that when zooming on the wide it's a very short distance between 24mm and 35mm, this is not a deal breaker though.

Auto focus is superb! It's accurate, silent and rarely hunts even in low light; again, on a 5d mk2, which is not known for it's great focusing system!

When it comes down to it though it's the image stabilisation that really brings this lens together, combined that with it's range of focal lengths it makes for an amazing combination; and believe me f4 is a blessing for most photographic situations, it makes the lens light enough to carry around all day; add a 50 or 85mm prime and you are good to go!

I would highly recommend this lens to anyone with a full frame camera, If it's good enough for Martin Parr, It's probably good enough for you :)

I have been using a 70-200 f4 for a year, and it is tack sharp at f4 and get even sharper when stopping down.

This lens is a little dissapointing.

This is an all-around lens for me. I use it at events and family stuff.

I love the image stabilization and zoom range.

    There is some lens creep.
I wish the lens was an f2.8, but if it was, I probably couldn't afford it!

Comments about Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

The lens exhibits the worst barrel distortion I have ever seen on ANY lens. Unless you want to spend all your time squaring up images in post, avoid this lens. Canon has a lot of nerve putting the L glass brand on this lens. The EF 28-135 that came with my 40D is much superior. I bought this lens as a package with my 5D III. What a mistake. do your self a favor and buy the body only and get a different lens.

We bought the 5D Mark III with this lens for our production team and frankly it's a bit dissappointing. This lens is dedicated to be used strictly for video, so this is not a review of its still image quality. It has nice bokeh, but it's not as sharp as I'd like from a $[$] lens. The 24-70mm is likely a better choice for our needs.

Great all around lens to help fill the gap between 35-70. IS is nice for video, and for me the IS was preferred over 2.8, considering i was only filling a 35 mm gap. Would recommend, especially if shooting vid for clients.

Comments about Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

When I first purchased the lens I was very happy. I had to adjust to some features and soon found out that my Tiffen variable ND filter did not work well with the wide angle, needless to say I was very upset because I do alot of photography on the water. Only after 4 months of using my new lens it started creeping down when in use, I also shot from on high straight down or product photography. Of course can't return to B&H and Canon said I could send it back for tightening but don't be surprised to find out that it cannot be fixed because it is a normal feature for this lens. This was my first L-Series lens and I am beyond disappointed!!!!!Yes the clarity is good but if I can't use it to shoot everything without it being a pain, I would have never bought it...or at least if I had read the reviews first I would have know about this issue I could have purchased with this first hand knowledge instead of being surprised. I would recommend the lens for regular photography because it does have very good quality glass.

The build quality is very nice. Good solid heavy feel. Image stabilizing. Macro. What else could you possibly ask for!?

It would be nice if this lens was faster and could maintain that faster f/stop all the way through the focal range. But no one is perfect.

Comments about Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

So far I like the pics from this lens. Distortion at 24mm is easly fixable. I still need more testing. Waiting to take it outside in better weather.

Just received my new Canon EF 244-105mm f/4L IS USM lens. The service was superb! Couldn't be happier. Crisp beautiful pictures. This lens was recommended to me by a professional photographer. Great all purpose lens for the price. This is now my new go to anywhere anytime lens. Highly recommend this product

I choose this lens instead of the kit lens for a new 70D. Far better image quality that the kit lens that came with my daughters SL1.

Comments about Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

Have been using this lens for a couple of years, so obviously it has its place, but I feel that it is really not up to the expectations one has of a piece of L-Series glass. It is just not all that crisp.
Like most other folks I have a 24-70 and a 70-200, and found myself constantly switching between them, whetner on the same body or on two separate bodies. Investing in this guy has allowed me to cut down a lot on that problem (amazed to find out how much shooting I do between 70 and 105mm) but the results are just not really at the level of either of the other two lenses. It is by no means bad, it just isn't as terrific as the 24-70 or 70-200, and I guess I'm spoiled. Probably wouldn't be annoyed if it didn't carry that "L" designation, which I have associated with a degree of resolution and general excellence that this little guy just doesn't match. The other lenses I use that carry the "L" (24-70 2.8, and 70-200 2.8 zooms mentioned before and the 300 f2.8)are in a higher class than this guy.

Don't get me wrong...it's not a bad lens by any stretch of the imagination, it's a whole bunch better than the competition in this focal length class, but I really don't feel it should carry an "L".
