As a commercial photographer I shoot an awful lot of product both big and small. I mainly use the mini boom arm to hold a Vivitar 283 flash and Micro Apollo as an overhead light when shooting small products. For this task the Mini Boom Arm works great. It is not made to hold too much weight (a couple pounds I believe), and if you realize that limitation going in, and taylor it's use accordingly, you should have no problems. I wanted to give it five stars, but I wish the extension shaft locks would grip a little tighter.

When they say, "holds a small light fixture" believe that. Out of the box the 1 lb counterweight doesn't really let you put too much on it. A shoe mount strobe, and an adapter for the stud, you're done. Adding a small (33" shoot thru) umbrella and the balance becomes precarious at any kind of extension; and extension's kind of the point of a boom, right? Now, add a bit more mass (say a camera bag) to the counterweight side and it becomes a whole other animal. It'll then hold a 285, an umbrella adapter, and a decent sized (45") umbrella fine. And the pole itself never seems to have a problem with additional weight, even extended. So, depending on your POV, either a)the counterweight is too small, or b)it's highly portable, with just enough counter weight for a small fixture, and a sturdy enough construction that adding more weight isn't an issue when/if you need to go larger.
The swivel clamp is kind of fidgety, and is too large to securely clamp onto the upper section of any of the 3 section lightstands I own, and that also limits it's usefulness, because I often have to extend when I could just elevate.
Bottom line is, it's fine for portable and occasional use, but if you need a real boom you might want to look elsewhere.

It works as it should, but the included 1 lb counterweight is pretty much useless, as most lights weigh more than that. However, with additional couple of dollars, you can always purchase more counterweight.

I use this mini boom with the Medium Apollo Soft boxes. It eliminates the problem of positioning the soft boxes where you want them. The product is a quality build which is very stable and secure. I purchased two of them and I am very happy with them and I would recommend to a friend.

Great boom for the price. You might need to hang some weight on the 1lb built in weight for larger objects and a long reach. The pivot mount is all plastic and it clicked loud when I tightened it too tight... Hopefully it'll last.

This product is exactly what it says. Cheap Boom Arm that gets the job done. It is best for indoor use. I attempted to use it outside and it was too shakey. Knuckle is made of plastic so not sure how long it will last, but for now it works great.

This boom arm has more reach than what I need since I'm only doing table top stuff for now. I holds a flash or two or a pair of LED lamps without any strain. I also have no doubt it could also handle large reflectors or gobos without a problem, perhaps a small mono flash could also be used. I don't have one so I can't be sure of that. For what I'm doing it's an excellent product at a reasonable price.

Cons: not so strong, a speedlight and a small softbox is the most id trust with this thing and i wouldnt extend it all the way,

Great piece of equipment for hanging portable overhead lighting for greenscreen. Easy to assemble but being a novice at this, I found it conusing when trying to attch the boom arm to the Impct light stand because the boom arm has 2 holes at the top which are different sizes and I wasn't sure which hole should be used. No instructions are provided but for an experienced videographer they would have no trouble wit this. My only caution to you is to be sure you balance the counterweight aince the boom arm is heavy.

I already owned one, and I bought a second one. The stackability is great, it's light, and it has a large footprint (which I want). Good enough that I don't need a sandbag outside if it's just a light (no modifier or boom). I've had my old one 2 years, and besides the gold pin at the top not being shiny anymore, it's pretty much in the same condition as the brand new one.

I bought this to get a more flexible tilt on my new Apollo Orb for indoors portraits. So far it appears to work just fine for that purpose. I do not intend to use it outdoors nor I would expect it to work on that scenario with such a huge modifier.

Good Boom but the locking sistem is weak and to delicate...its hard to keep it locked and tight to the stand or maybe i just dont know how to use it. the lock piece seems that if you thigted too hard is gonna break but that is just my opinion. overall is a good product.

The first time I used this arm the plastic handle used to tighten the system broke in my hand without a lot of pressure. I almost never break equipment because I am very careful... Other than the cheap plastic parts the boom is pretty cool. It does bow quite a bit when I attached a Lowel Pro with an umbrella. I used 1 pound dumbbells as counter weight.

I had been looking for something to use instead of the heavy and cumbersome C Stands for portable photo shoots. I generally carry light stands with me so I was hoping that the mini boom would be adaptable for hanging scrims etc. To my amazement this arm is very strong, strong enough to hold lights with a soft box attached. This arm is very well built, lightweight with amazing tensile strength. I was pleasantly surprised.

I shoot mainly video and this piece is a life saver. It easily attaches to C-stands and Light stands and can be really helpful. Its not meant to hold the heaviest lights but if you have small items or lights that need to be positioned a certain way the boom are really helps. If it is not balancing right you just have to add a bag to the end with some form of weight and it works. great addition to any light kit
