Each Quantum FW10w FreeXWire Digital Transceiver can be used as a radio transmitter or receiver, or relay unit. The FreeXWire creates a two-way link between the camera, flash, and photographer. One FreeXWire unit signals a remote FreeXWire to trigger a flash or camera, and the remote sends back confirmation that it received the signal.

Four FreeXWires can serve as two send/receive systems, operating on two different Channels. Or all FreeXWires can be set on the same Channel so that they can operate as one system - a transmitter and three receivers.

The FreeXWire FW10w has been updated to be compatible with the Quantum Qflash T5d to provide full wireless TTL operation when used with the Dw series QTTL adapters.

Might require additional cables or accessories, depending on flash and/or camera used, please click here to see a complete FreeXWire component chart.

8 Independent Channels
FreeXWire has eight unique Channel Codes. FreeXWire units set to one Channel cannot activate FreeXWires set to different Channels. You control the Channel Code to make FreeXWire units work together or independently, as required. There are 32 individual Channel/Zone settings at your disposal, and 256 possible lighting combinations.
4 Zone Control Plus Local
FreeXWire controls one Local Zone and four wireless Zones for flash or motor drive. You can activate any one Zone, or any combination of Zones 1,2,3,4 and Local. Switch your lighting instantly, remotely. Select and trigger flashes, cameras, or combinations of them, from your remote position.
Wireless Digital Camera TTL
A FreeXWire connected to a "Dw" series adapter transmits the camera's f/stop, ISO, and TTL information to any number of remote FreeXWire/Qflash combinations. A "local" Qflash will synchronize also.
Wireless Auto
Without a TTL adapter, a local Qflash & FreeWire can control exposures of any number of remote Qflash/FreeXWire combinations.
Two Special Motor Drive Features
Two-step cord keeps your camera meter and focus function continuously on (as in pressing the shutter button half way). The camera will be ready for instant shutter release. Or, select motor drive "delay" to command a camera to "wake up", focus and meter, then release the shutter.
Flash Sequencer
For action sports or fast fashion shoots, you can sequence up to 4 remote power packs, cameras or flashes. FreeXWire will activate the power packs in sequence, advancing to the next with each shot.
Convenient Connections
You can hot shoe sync with FreeXwire's optional Uni-Mod module, use twin blade sync cords, or numerous other cords. FreeXWires use Quantum's motor drive cords for remote wireless shutter.
Small Size
Compact and light, and antenna folds out of the way for compact storage.
Confirmation
Confirmation and Status light tell you the radio link is working.

Comments about Quantum Instruments FW10w FreeXwire Digital Transceiver:

I just ordered these to go along with the other Quantum FreeWires i already have in my toolbox of flash gear. I've had Quantum products for over thirty years and I go back to them time and again for new products. Reliablility is the key for me. I HATE stuff that doesn't work the way it's designed. Not that there aren't a few misfires from time to time, but I've used these for jobs requiring thousands of shots per day for days on end. I have also used Pocket Wizards. The PW line may have more technology inside but I have never been blown away with the consistency of use that the Quantum triggers provide. the "learning curve" of the Quantums is not as great, especially considering the number of years I've been using their products.

Comments about Quantum Instruments FW10w FreeXwire Digital Transceiver:

I just used this this past weekend to fire off a couple of Quantum T5D-r's and a couple of Nikon Sb-910's with the q-link system at a wedding. They worked like a gem!

I have used plenty of PW's and their new flex and mini system. They are great when they work, or should I say if they work. I mostly use my off camera lights in full manual mode and never change them once they are calibrated to the proper power. With the PW Flex and Mini if you lose connectiviity then you have to turn everything off and then back on in the proper sequence . This is a pain and I have lost photo ops when I am doing this during the reception. Not to mention that I look like I am an amateur.

I never had a problem with my pilot and thought that I could try the fw10w with a simple connection to my pc port on my camera. I have to say that I did not have a misfire once all night. I even had to put the pc cable back into the pc port twice as I pulled it out inadvertently and when I fired the camera, everything went off with out a hitch.

So nice to not have to worry about your lights and concentrate on the shots!!!!

It works with the pc port on my flash as well.

Comments about Quantum Instruments FW10w FreeXwire Digital Transceiver:

Overall, a very good product. Have had to have several repaired over the years because the antenna flops around and eventually falls off. Must be repaired by Quantum...can't do it yourself.

Comments about Quantum Instruments FW10w FreeXwire Digital Transceiver:

Used just a bit, but I found out AFTER buying that in order for this to work with a camera Quantum D adapter, you MUST have a Quantum T series flash in the chain at the camera to do transmitting of TTL. The only way to do TLL without a T Flash at the camera is with an FW9. Now I have to buy an FW9 to do what I thought the FW10 could do. (if you don't want either of these to dangle around via cords, you need to get the Unimod FW11 or use lots of velcro.

Never fails, I mean, never. TX and Rx in one device.
Should be wireless TTL with other brands, not only Quantum.

Can't ask for better than that. Trasceiver makes most sense; I bought two. Trigger both units (two Nikon SB 800 flash)with Pilot or use one unit to fire flash or camera.

Easy to set up and has great range.

I purchased the FW10w Transceiver as a flexible backup and supplement for my transmitter and several receivers. The Quantum FreeXwire system is reliable and it’s great that you can control each receiver independently. I wish the transmitters had a built in hot-shoe foot.
