For the price, this is a great, basic desk mic stand. We bought a couple to set up a little podcasting operation, and they do the job well. The base is heavy enough that it doesn't tip over, although I switched it around so the long arm is on the bottom and the short arm swivels (helps give it a little more height too).

I wouldn't call this stand "heavy duty" by any means. The base is about 2/3rds as thick and quite a bit lighter than the base of my other desktop mike stand. The shaft itself is also a lot thinner, about the diameter of a dime. The result of these unfortunate design choices: one can just barely get away with using this stand for a mike like a Shure SM58 -- the base will tip slightly, even with a SM58 (which weights 10.5 ounces), mounted in exactly the position shown on the box the stand comes in. But one can forget about using it with a mike that's any heavier, such as most studio condenser mikes. In addition, the picture on BH's web site is inaccurate. In the product photo, the shaft appears to be about the same height as the radius of the base, or 2-3 inches tall. Actually, the product looks nothing like that. The shaft is really almost 7 inches tall (from the base, to the round locking knob), and the height is not adjustable. This height, combined with the thinness of the shaft, contributes to the product's tendency to topple over. In sum: this product might be OK for somebody doing a podcast with an inexpensive, lightweight microphone. But it's worthless for most of the mikes I own (Rode NT1, AT2020, SE 2200a, etc.)

Comments about On-Stage DS300B Posi-Lok Mini Boom Desktop Stand:

It is a very helpful appliance. It is easier to adjust than the normal microphone stands. It is not as visible to the audience. It is easier to adjust for people at different heights.

We use this for several sporting events and it works great. You don't find yourself bending over to use the mic because the arm allows you to sit in a more upright position. Really can't think of anything that I don't like about the DS300B mic holder.

Depending on the weight of your microphone, it could get a little heavy on the one end causing the stand to tilt a little bit from the bottom. To If you don't use a wireless microphone, the weight from the cord can help with the weight distribution. Otherwise I love the stand.

I really like this mic stand. I would have given it 5 stars, but it can't handle a very heavy mic. My mic causes it to tip and fall over at the angle displayed in the picture. However, when I "straighten up" the stand, it works just fine for my application.

For simple desktop recordings, this boom works very well. It's compact, weighted at the bottom well, and adjustable. The only thing that will affect its usage is the funky angle at which the microphone itself sits. otherwise, this boom is pretty nice.

The heavy duty base keeps the stand stable on your desk. I purchased this stand for pod casting and general voice over at my computer desk. The stand is very well made, my only complaint is that the top arm is a bit long for my application.
