Comments about Sima MZM-1 Mniature Zoom Microphone:

I bought this for my small canon fs200. I was hoping it would give me some more range for recording things far away. It did ok with capturing more distant audio from things further away that the onboard mic might not be able to get. However, the overall hiss that you get from the mic makes the onboard mic a much better choice. The mics on the cannon cameras are very good built in so unless you want to buy a[$]stero condenser mic for your canon, its best to save your money and use the onboard mic.

I have only had a chance to use this once, and it worked fine, and was much better than the mike that came built in on the camcorder. I'm not sure it would work for everyday use or not since I have not had a chance to use it again.

Comments about Sima MZM-1 Mniature Zoom Microphone:

I needed a shotgun mic in a hurry so I bought one as well as a higher priced Sony, intending to keep whichever was better. No contest. This mic is not worth the flimsy plastic it's housed in. It is very noisy (hiss). If it was the only "shotgun" mic available, you could use it if there was lots of ambient to cover the hiss, but I wouldn't waste good money on it. Of course the Sony ECM-MS908C is 3x the price...
