I bought this package to provide portraiture services in my portfolio. For the price this kit is a good point to start with if you are getting into taking portraits or product photography. The monolights feel pretty solid and emit enough light to take some pretty good photos.

One awesome feature that comes with this package is that the monolights have built in slave cells for wireless triggering. Once you setup your speedlight to trigger the flash no need for purchasing sync slaves. Keep in mind that the fastest shutter speed you will be able to shoot at with your speedlight will be 1/250 sec (1/200 for some models).

If you would like to have a higher shutter speed you will definitely have to purchase sync slaves for all of your devices. The air-cushioned stands do the job but do feel kind of flimsy. If you over-tighten any of the screws to lock the stand you WILL bend the stand so take great care to tighten but not over-tighten them.

Overall for the price the product by IMPACT (who also makes very excellent backdrop products) is worth the money. Need more light? Just buy another monolight and add it to this already existing package.

The only downside some people may have with this product is the following information listed in the manual:

    * Do not flash over 12 shots per minute for over a 10 minute period.

    * Do not flash over 8 shots per minute for over 30 minutes.

I personally don't see this as a issue but everyone has their own peeves.

    Overall a good product!

Was excited to get this product and it does work well. The bulbs just don't put out the juice I want it to though. I went with Nikon's speed lights instead and they are more powerful, more portable, and more options in the field.

The kit was actually still worth buying as it comes with a lot of great stuff. Bag, light stands, soft-boxes (just that alone was worth the money. Just don;t care for the lights.

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

I use these lights for product photography. Two work fine for smaller items, but if you will be shooting large items, I would recommend 4 lights. The flashes are bright and adjustable. At the highest power, they recharge instantly for use again. Each light comes with a sync cable, but you only need to connect one. Make sure your camera has a port for the cable, otherwise you won't be able to use them.

The stands are good, but if you're going to be shooting outdoors or in a high-traffic area, I'd suggest getting sandbags to weigh them down. The power cords are long, but could be longer. Overall, everything is average. I wasn't blown away by this setup, but it definitely gets the job done!

These lights are just what I needed, something to give me proper light for indoor portrait work without breaking the bank, with the convenience of a case for storing and traveling.

It is not the absolute best, but for the money it is perfect!

I wanted a starter kit that would be strong enough for indoor portrait photography and easy to set up. This kit was both. Once of the reasons I went with this kit is because of the feedback and tips from other reviewers. The slave sync works extremely well, the lights are easy to set up and move and well made. For my first light kit purchase, I am extremely happy.

                Poor Quality

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

If the power cables get bumped or even slightly moved it shuts off and turns on...time and time again. The vertical pivot on head mount doesn't hold on one of the lights, had to jury rig something up to hold it from falling. On one of the soft boxes, the stitching on one of the box skins is so poor that 3 of the 4 flex rods pushed right through--fixed it by using gaffers tape (which so far is holding the box together). When everything is working and ready to go, it functions fine (until the power cables are moved, then shuts off, turns on, beeps twice and I'm ready to go).

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

I got this set to start out with and I like it a lot actually. It was fairly priced.

The only thing is you need to get a remote for them, cause the sync cord is a pain in the rear.

Other than that I highly recommend these for starters, they're very easy to assemble and use, and clear to figure out.

The only things that arent TOOO great is that the softboxes are pretty small, theyre pretty much only good for portraits, and kids maybe, Kind of hard to do a full body shot. I also suggest picking up a 60" umbrella to go with these.

I think this is probably the best deal on a starting kit for studio strobes. All the components fit in the bag making it simply to carry. My only concern is that the carrying bag has no compartments so objects may shift or even break during transport, which can be an issue with the softboxes and bulbs.

The only con I found is that once opened and unpacked, the bag does not offer much protection at all.. I was scared to even carry it.. Bought some fleece and cheap bags from the ol "have everything cheap megastore" for $25 and now it's packed nice and perfect for taking anywhere without worry!

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

This is a great starter kit! The lights are easy to set up and use. Plus it's fun to experiment with. I have a mini studio in my house and have used these lights for a variety of different client situations.

The stands are pretty light so it might be a good idea to buy a couple of sandbags for support. Also the softboxes are not the best but they get the job done. Overall I am pretty happy with this kit!

This is a great kit for anyone who is trying to do portrait photos for a reasonable price! I was under a budget and this is great! The strobe work great, the stands are sturdy, the bag is of great material. Can't complain about this purchase very well done.

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

I am happy with this purchase. It fits my quality needs and budget. I am an amateur photographer and I will be using it for light duty, indoor use. With good care and gentle usage it should last a long time. Even if I upgrade to better equipment later, I can still see using the components of this kit. The kit has produced some wonderful lighting for portraits. The modeling lamps are nice. They really give you a sense of what the lighting in the final photograph will be. I do wish the power controls on the monolights were marked with power levels. I intend to measure light output and make my own markings.

This kit seems to be a good value for the money spent. Everything goes together relatively easy and it appears to be well built for the price.

I've only used it once so I can't give a detailed review, but I certainly think it was worth the price.

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

My photo partner (wife) had a different approach about studio lights. She trained on Strobe's , I on constant lighting. I didn't think this kit could give us the light we needed. Boy was I wrong! The modeling feature was a part of lighting she missed. Modeling light let's you see where shadows fall on the faces of your talent. Plus it allows for a cooler working environment, unless you like using daylight fluorescent light kits. The lites allows you to raise and lower the strobe and modeling lights output ( I like the those lights too) The room stays cooler, but you still won't have that modeling feature to give you an immediate gage of where shadows fall. The lights sync easily with various wireless triggers. From the expensive to the not so expensive (I even used a [$] wireless kit) This is great because wireless controls means less clutter, fewer wires to trip over. This monolite kit offers a very good responsive strobe firing time and more than enough light to do the job.The bag that comes with this kit, is a pretty good bag, offering support and protection. I opted to buy the bag a step higher in price but well worth it. Stands are light weight, but sturdy and strong enough to get the job done. The soft boxes work as designed. Although assembly of the soft boxes is a bit stiff. If there is a smooth or easier why to assemble them, I'd like to know of it. Once assembled, it works like a charm. The kit also comes with to & inch reflectors which are awesome. I like this kit better than my cool Fluorescent kit. No this monolite kit "ain't" no thousands of dollars kit, but it is a kit that can make you money while saving you money. this is money you can apply to other photo needs.

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

I am a photographer doing mostly still life in a studio environment. I was looking for an intro kit and this kit is perfect. The light output is plenty for indoor photography (iso 200, 1/200 sec f 29 near full power with reflector on one unit second unit filling) (never tested outdoor, but might be a little weak for large outdoor subjects especially if using softboxes)

A few notes I would have liked to know when I purchased the light kit:

There is a proportional setting for the modeling bulb, or a full power mode.

The recycle time is really quick, the manual specifies 1~2 seconds but usually less than 1 second on full power.

The protective cap CAN be put on with the Modeling bulb installed, Standard incandescent bulbs will screw in, and will also fit with the protective cap installed.

It does comes with 2) 10ft power cables, special modeling bulb and spare fuses.

The unit has a slave cell which detects a flash and will trigger the unit.

The slave cable is a PC to 1/8" mini-plug (headphone male) cable.

The manual specifies it "is compatible with Elinchrom style reflectors and head accessories"

A few comments about the unit after a few photo shoots.

Also some people complain of the difficulty assembling the soft boxes, I found it a little difficult the first time, but once you figure out how to do it, it only take around 30-60 seconds to put together.

The Air-Cushioned stands are really nice to keep from jolting the flash heads when adjusting the height.

The locking attachment ring takes a little getting used to, It appears to difficult to attach attachments, but make sure the locking ring is in the unlock position, then attachments lock very securely.

Overall, a solid basic Monolight kit, which includes the basics you need to get started with strobe photography.

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Kit with Bag (120VAC):

I love this kit, it's perfect for product photography. It has modeling lights which helps you see where the light will hit and also has a dimmer for the final output which allows you to have different amounts of light in the shot.
I added one more light since it only has two lights and now I can also use it for portrait photography.
The bag is an awesome detail too.
