The Paterson Super System 4 - 35mm Tank is constructed from high-impact polystyrene that stands up to high volume use. This tank has no hidden parts, and is always easy to keep clean.

The Super System 4 Tanks are durable, easy to use, and provide consistent, even film development.

They feature a unique snap-in light trapping funnel for quick filling and emptying, to ensure even development and precise processing times.

Super System 4 Tanks offer a choice of agitation methods; use inversion agitation,  rotary agitation with the removable agitator rod supplied, or a combination of both.

The Paterson 35mm tank takes a single 35mm film.

All parts are interchangeable.
The Super System 4 is simpler to load, faster to fill and easier to clean than any other tank.
A large diameter one piece lid and funnel which clips into place positively and securely, enabling the tank to be filled and emptied quickly.

To CColdwell, this will handle two 35mm reels. You just need to buy another reel to supplement the one that comes with it.

I learned on Paterson tanks and reels in high school and I remember them fondly. I have since bought a couple of their tanks, this model being the first. Recently I tried a generic stainless steel dual tank with SS reels just to see what I thought. The reels were horrendous. I got blisters loading film onto those reels every time. I am cursing them as I type! The difference is night and day. What normally takes me ~1½ minutes with the Paterson took 20 minutes with the SS. Albeit, they are not the best SS reels you can get (which are around $30 each!), but having experienced them, the Patersons are a dream to come back to.

This is a great tank for beginners but it's also great for the experienced shooter that wants to develop often. For my personal work, I average a roll a day and I try to develop two as soon as I take them. I tend to change my film and its speed often so a two-reel tank is perfect for that. When I have more volume I use the Multi-Reel 5 Tank but for everyday use, this is it.

Slightly large compared to the compact SS tank but not bulky in my opinion. Solid construction. The lid is a bit of a bother though. It takes a long time before it goes on without a fight. It eventually breaks in however. I mainly use rotary agitation so can't vouch for its effectiveness with inversion. Cleaning is very easy. I've never had a problem with chemistry retention or contamination. I'm not sure why the tank doesn't just come with two reels but I suppose they are rightfully catering to value by only including one reel.

The main problem with this tank is the rubber lid. It has an extremely tight fit, and does not make a seal easily. Fixing the lid can be very frustrating when the job is time sensitive, such as after adding developer. Of course, a tight seal is required to agitate the tank correctly.

The second problem I had was with the reel itself. Film would pop out of the sprockets too easily, causing more frustration than necessary when loading the reel.

Comments about Paterson 35mm Tank with Reel (Super System 4):

Well, 4 years of use, 16 years of sitting on shelf in garage anyway. I bought mine for a photo class back in the mid nineties, and I've just returned to shooting film and developing at home again in the last 4 years. This is a great product. Well designed, good materials, and easy to use. The ONLY problem I've ever had is the lid will leak during inversion. Pushing down on the lid helps to seal, but the best thing I've found is to soak the lid in the same water used to warm chemicals, therefore softening the lid enough to help it seal. Also, keeping the plastic reels clean is paramount to getting the film to load smoothly every time. I rinse mine in a 1/5 solution of white vinegar and water every few rolls, and I've read of others using denture cleaner soak.

I was interested in starting to develop my own film so I researched the gear I needed and referring to tanks this was the one that every single reviewer loved. So I'm getting my developing gear little by little because so it's more affordable for me and I decided to buy this tank to start. I'm very pleased with the shipping and packing and I'm just waiting to get the other stuff to try it. I'm sure it's gonna be awesome.

I've started developing my own film and so far developed 6 rolls in this tank. I like the design. You can agitate the chemicals with the agitation stick that turns the reels. No need to put the lid on and invert the tank for agitiation-so easy. I find it easy to load 35mm film on the reels. I havent tried loading 120 film on them yet but will soon. And this is a great price for the tank and the 2 included reels.

I bought this canister to develop my film and let me tell you how great it is! Right before I started using it there was a great descriptive set of instructions on what to do. The reel that is used to put the film into is super easy to use and after that it is all clear from there. The lid is also when you're using it because it does not leak onto your hands. Cleanup is easy. All you do is hand wash it!

Relatively easy to use. Getting the film started on the reel can be a bit tricky but not too bad. Works just fine with 36exp rolls of film.

The lid can sometimes be a bit annoying to get fully sealed quickly, but it's fine once you get the hang of it.

This was purchased to attempt developing color film at home. Haven't done this since high school, which was some time ago. The Paterson 35mm Tank with Reel made it so simple that I'm weary of going back to digital.

There are some reviews of elsewhere that state it's hard to load the film onto the reel, well this couldn't be further from the truth. I put all the items in a dark bag and had the film ready to develop in five minutes.

All around great product. Just wish I purchased the two reel tank :P

I really like the design of this tank and reel. It is the one i used in college so i figured i should buy one I'm already used to. The reel is extremely easy to use and clean.
I say it could be better because it is far from perfect. The lid is the problem. You can get a tight seal and keep liquids from coming out but it takes way to long to push it all the way on and when only have so much time when you are developing this can be a problem. i usually end up just holding the lid on top(but liquids still leak out) for the first agitation then pushing it fully on during this first part of letting it sit. It just seems like the lid problem should have been thought out more on Paterson's part. Next time i am going to go with the steel tank.

Works just how it's supposed to. The reel is easy to load. My only complaint is that the lid is really hard to get on all the way, leading to leaks when agitating. If you are careful and persistent, you can avoid that by taking the time to ensure the lid is all the way on. I will probably later see about getting a developing tank with a screw on top.

I'm new to home developing, though I've developed film in classes many years ago, and this tank works exactly as I remember them working. It's very easy to quickly thread the film on and does everything it's supposed to. That said, it's wise to sacrifice an unused roll of film to practice the loading process. It's not difficult, but things are different when your hands are unseen inside an unventilated dark bag. Yes, the rubber lid is hard to get on, but I just don't use it and only use the agitating wand instead. I haven't noticed any issues with this and I understand it's common practice. No fault of this product, but in the future I'll probably get a larger tank that holds more reels. The developing process is quick, but I have several rolls of film awaiting development and it would be pretty nice to knock them all out at once.

Comments about Paterson 35mm Tank with Reel (Super System 4):

Best tank I've ever used. Easy to assemble and take part . The plastic reel works well most of the time. Just takes practice to load film without jamming or kinks.
