Product Highlights
  • Gimbal-Type Tripod Head
  • Supports Wide, Medium & Telephoto Lenses
  • Arca-Swiss Type Quick Release Base
  • Required QR Plate Available Separately
  • Weighs 3.15 lb (1.4 kg)

The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is a gimbal-type tripod head that incorporates an elevated tilt mechanism and adjustable platform to make the camera/lens' center of gravity and tilt axis of the head be perfectly aligned.

Things once thought of as impossible with a ballhead are nothing short of mundane with a Wimberley, because a weightless camera/lens combo (even a 600mm f/4 w/ large body) can literally be controlled with one finger. Point the rig where you want and take the hand away, and it stays exactly where you put it.

The Version II head is more compact and lightweight, features a redesigned panning base, "soft-touch" knobs, and includes a built-in Arca-type quick release base. An Arca-style quick-release plate is required and is available separately. Visit lens chart for a chart of compatible lens plates and cameras.

The built-in industry-standard Arca-Swiss style quick release clamp makes it compatible with the many different plates available from Arca-Swiss, Acratech , Kirk, Wimberly, Really Right Stuff, Foba, etc.
The head does not have separate controls for tension and locking, but the locking controls deliver smooth resistance with diminished "stick-slip".
The overall height of the head is 9.25" (23.5cm), with the lens platform adjustable from 3.5" to 7.1" (8.9 x 18cm). The centerline of a balanced lens will be approximately 8.4" (21.3cm) above the bottom of the head.
Distance from the mounting surface of the platform to the tilt axis: Adjustable from 1.1" to 4.8" (2.8 to 12.2cm).
The head's redesigned panning base has zero play and the pan locking knob has been moved to the side of the head; this allows the user to easily operate both knobs with the same hand.
Lobed "soft-touch" knobs provide a more comfortable grip and perform better when using gloves.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I use the Wimberley WH-200 to better control super telephoto lens from 400-600mm in focal length and have owned a WH-200 for 4 years. When I decided to buy a second gimbal head there was no hesitation about buying another Wimberley. This product has the best quality materials and workmanship, but the bottom line is it simply works perfectly every time I use it. I do wish they could find a way to shave a half pound or so off the weight though.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I am doing a lot of bird photography using a Canon 100-400 mm lens (often with Canon extenders), and while it isn't the largest or heaviest telephoto lens, I have become extremely frustrated using this setup mounted to a ball head tripod mount for this application. After a lot of research, reading reviews and ratings, I decided that a gimbal head mount was the ideal choice, and that the Wimberley WH-200 II was the correct choice. Sure, at the cost of the WH-200 it is intimidating, and reason to give pause, for spending that much; but after receiving and using it, I have been more than satisfied that I made the correct choice. The WH-200 is extremely well constructed, and performs flawlessly. Once set up, the camera moves freely; but holds its position for taking a photo...truly almost unaffected by gravity. This unit will be in my camera kit, and probably my sons's kit as well, for a lifetime. It is money well spent f you are using large telephoto lenses, shooting moving subjects.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

Fantastic Gimbal Head. Got a cheaper gimbal and thought it was good until I bought this. Ultimate finish and build quality. Movement is super smooth in all diretions and it is suprisingly lighter than the cheaper gimbals.

Fully worth the price to secure your investment in Lenses. In the long run it is sometimes cheaper to buy a good product.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I use this with a Nikon 300mm lens which is heavy and it handles it wonderfully with the Gitzo GT2543 Mountaineer tripod. I do wish I realized I was also going to have buy a ballhead to use the tripod with smaller lenses and portrait. Wimberly WH-200 is very heavy. I also order a ballhead but haven't received it as of yet.

I use the Wimberly II primarily with a 300mm 2.8 Nikon + TC 2.0 III combination. The build quality is extraordinary and performance has been flawless. Allows for true balancing and gimbal movement of heavy telephoto lenses. Heavy, expensive and well-made.

I use it on a Gitzo 3541LS tripod for my Nikon D4 with the Sigma 300-800mm lens attached to it. Main use is bird photography. I like the very smooth movement possible with this Gimbal Head, how easy it can balance the heavy equipment attached to it.
Ok, it is heavy to move around, but I've never had such stability to take images before. It's a great piece of equipment.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I have a small studio and have purchased more photo gear than I can remember. I have never submitted a review before, but the quality of the Wimberly Gimbal Head compelled me to do so. Right out of the box, the build quality is better than anything I have seen. I have 3 professional tripods (Manfrotto, Bogen, Induro) and an assortment of heads - the Wimberly is absolutely the best. The adjustments are smooth, fast and accurate. I bought the Wimberly Gimbal II based on other reviews, so I could more easily manage large telephoto lenses. I liked it so much I ordered some adapter plates so I could use it with other lenses I use in my studio - mostly for product photography. Despite the price, I have no "buyer's remorse." Glad I didn't cheap out and buy a lower priced one!

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I am an outdoor/sporting lifestyle photographer by trade and just purchased a 400mm. So I needed a new head to handle the lens. I can not believe how fluid this thing works when panning with the birds whether they are coming across in front, dropping in towards, it swings around so smoothly. The best tripod head and mount I have ever owned. Just spent a week in Florida putting it to the test. Absolutely love it. Need to buy the plates for some other midrange lens and the flash brackets.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I have used this product for several months now and I like the quality and performance. The WH-200 is silky smooth and easy to operate.
I use the Wimberley mainly for BIF and it works perfect with my 600mm Nikon lens.
To use the full performance I can recommend buying the Wimberly Plate AP-452.
Also Extenders and a battery grip are easy to handle with the head.
                        It is a perfect product.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

The Wimberley head is essential equipment for photos of birds in flight or moving wildlife. I have used other, cheaper gimbal heads and they do not have the balance, high degree of stability, and the smooth effortless action needed to track a moving object. This product is a little lighter than the old Wimberley head, but still has the solid feel. I use it with a Canon 600mm f4 lens, and it handles the weight with no problem.

I always hear people on youtube mention wimberley when they're reviewing a big lense, and now I know why. Extremely happy with the product. My lenses aren't that big (with 300mm 2.8 being the biggest) but now I have the confidence to shoot all day and get some good action shots.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

Amazing! Clearly designed for the heavy lenses, pans and tilts are smooth as ever. It puts the lens axis even with the tilt axis so it's way more stable. Another thing I REALLY appreciate is the quick release plate has a small flange so it won't rotate under heavy use like other QR plates will. I use it with the NIKKOR 500F4 and the 400 F2.8 for rugby and surfing.

Handling long and heavy lens a snap.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

When I first received my 300 MM F2.8 lens I realized that I would not be able to hand hold it very long so I ordered the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod head. It fit my heavy duty RRS tripod perfectly and I am now able to move the lens easily and quickly in any direction. This is a professional quality product that is built to last and I am extremely pleased with it. Best buy on the market in my opinion. B & H is also fantastic!
