The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is a gimbal-type tripod head that incorporates an elevated tilt mechanism and adjustable platform to make the camera/lens' center of gravity and tilt axis of the head be perfectly aligned.

Things once thought of as impossible with a ballhead are nothing short of mundane with a Wimberley, because a weightless camera/lens combo (even a 600mm f/4 w/ large body) can literally be controlled with one finger. Point the rig where you want and take the hand away, and it stays exactly where you put it.

The Version II head is more compact and lightweight, features a redesigned panning base, "soft-touch" knobs, and includes a built-in Arca-type quick release base. An Arca-style quick-release plate is required and is available separately. Visit lens chart for a chart of compatible lens plates and cameras.

The built-in industry-standard Arca-Swiss style quick release clamp makes it compatible with the many different plates available from Arca-Swiss, Acratech , Kirk, Wimberly, Really Right Stuff, Foba, etc.
The head does not have separate controls for tension and locking, but the locking controls deliver smooth resistance with diminished "stick-slip".
The overall height of the head is 9.25" (23.5cm), with the lens platform adjustable from 3.5" to 7.1" (8.9 x 18cm). The centerline of a balanced lens will be approximately 8.4" (21.3cm) above the bottom of the head.
Distance from the mounting surface of the platform to the tilt axis: Adjustable from 1.1" to 4.8" (2.8 to 12.2cm).
The head's redesigned panning base has zero play and the pan locking knob has been moved to the side of the head; this allows the user to easily operate both knobs with the same hand.
Lobed "soft-touch" knobs provide a more comfortable grip and perform better when using gloves.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I use a Canon 5D Mark III with a 600mm f/4 II lens, on a Gitzo tripod. I reviewed what other people here had to say when I made my decision to purchase this unit. It works as described. Seems to be high quality and easy to use. B&H shipped it out pronto and it arrived sooner than I expected.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

This was a replacement for another well know head that was a few bucks cheaper than the Wimberley. It seemed to be made well and I liked the looks of it and although the pan was very smooth, the tilt was not and the lens would stay in whatever position it was released in with the tension full released. I returned it and ordered the Wimberly. Have not found one thing that I can complain about, it is very smooth and balances easily. Well, that is not entirely true....I can complain about the price.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I purchased the Wimberley WH-200 after researching several blogs, other user reviews, and web sites. All pointed to this head as being the best. I purchased it primarily for capturing shots of birds in flight. It's an amazing tool, smooth action horizonally and vertically, easy to tighten down when needed, and more importantly, easy to dismount camera for shooting the birds that fly directly overhead. THe WH-200 is worth the investment!
In addition, B&H had the best price and quick shipping.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I made the switch from a pan & tilt to the Wimberley Gimbal because I wanted a smoother, sturdier mount for my 200-400. This product is awesome! Well made, very sturdy, easy to use and it keeps the lens perfectly balanced. It is pricey, but definitely worth it.

This gimbal is supporting a Canon 600mm, Canon 7d M2 and a 1.4 teleconverter and does it beautifully. It is smooth, strong, well built. I highly reccomend this regardless of the size of lens you may have. Although it is a tad heavy, that is a small price for such a great piece of equipment.

I use the Wimberley WH-200 to better control super telephoto lens from 400-600mm in focal length and have owned a WH-200 for 4 years. When I decided to buy a second gimbal head there was no hesitation about buying another Wimberley. This product has the best quality materials and workmanship, but the bottom line is it simply works perfectly every time I use it. I do wish they could find a way to shave a half pound or so off the weight though.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I am doing a lot of bird photography using a Canon 100-400 mm lens (often with Canon extenders), and while it isn't the largest or heaviest telephoto lens, I have become extremely frustrated using this setup mounted to a ball head tripod mount for this application. After a lot of research, reading reviews and ratings, I decided that a gimbal head mount was the ideal choice, and that the Wimberley WH-200 II was the correct choice. Sure, at the cost of the WH-200 it is intimidating, and reason to give pause, for spending that much; but after receiving and using it, I have been more than satisfied that I made the correct choice. The WH-200 is extremely well constructed, and performs flawlessly. Once set up, the camera moves freely; but holds its position for taking a photo...truly almost unaffected by gravity. This unit will be in my camera kit, and probably my sons's kit as well, for a lifetime. It is money well spent f you are using large telephoto lenses, shooting moving subjects.

Fantastic Gimbal Head. Got a cheaper gimbal and thought it was good until I bought this. Ultimate finish and build quality. Movement is super smooth in all diretions and it is suprisingly lighter than the cheaper gimbals.

Fully worth the price to secure your investment in Lenses. In the long run it is sometimes cheaper to buy a good product.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I use this with a Nikon 300mm lens which is heavy and it handles it wonderfully with the Gitzo GT2543 Mountaineer tripod. I do wish I realized I was also going to have buy a ballhead to use the tripod with smaller lenses and portrait. Wimberly WH-200 is very heavy. I also order a ballhead but haven't received it as of yet.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:

I use the Wimberly II primarily with a 300mm 2.8 Nikon + TC 2.0 III combination. The build quality is extraordinary and performance has been flawless. Allows for true balancing and gimbal movement of heavy telephoto lenses. Heavy, expensive and well-made.

I use it on a Gitzo 3541LS tripod for my Nikon D4 with the Sigma 300-800mm lens attached to it. Main use is bird photography. I like the very smooth movement possible with this Gimbal Head, how easy it can balance the heavy equipment attached to it.
Ok, it is heavy to move around, but I've never had such stability to take images before. It's a great piece of equipment.
