The Sanken CS-3E shotgun microphone provides convenient camera mountable size with the directional signal reproduction and range expected of larger, professional shotgun microphones. The CS-3E is designed for directional dialog capturing in studios or on location. The microphone implements 3 directional capsules arranged in a front-to-back array resulting in phenomenal super-cardioid directivity at high, mid and low frequencies.
The CS-3E is capable of maintaining high signal quality at longer distances, making it ideal for ceiling and overhead placement. In addition to exceptional super-cardioid off-axis rejection, the microphone capsule eliminates low-frequency proximity effect when used in close proximity to the signal source. Measuring only 10 inches in length, the CS-3E is a candidate for camera or boom pole mounting scenarios.

Comments about Sanken CS-3E Short Shotgun Microphone:
I bought it a year ago because I need a good mic which is capble of indoor and outdoor use as well. Regarding the sound quality, it IS a good mic. But after several times of use with Rycote lyre suspension clip, cs3e's black coating start to come off. I don't know whom I should blame. Is the lyre too tight, or sanken's coating quality really bad?

I love this mic! It sounds great boomed over an interview inside and out. If you want good sound you have to pay for it. I highly suggest this mic for all around use.

Comments about Sanken CS-3E Short Shotgun Microphone:
I bought mine for SFX recording in the field. So far after a couple of recording sessions with it, the Sanken is well worth the price. The low-frequency directionality and absence of a rear lobe have been invaluable in uncontrolled environments, you get much better isolation compared to other short shotguns. Self noise is low and the sound is very detailed with a slight forwardness in the mids. Only downside is that the CS3e is very susceptible to handling noise - I use a Rycote pistol grip and Lyre suspension system and handling noise is audible if I make slight adjustments to my grip on the pistol grip. I've tried using the built-in high pass filter and it does help but doesn't cure the problem. Conclusion: Terrific sound but you need to be careful of handling noise.

This is the only shotgun I use when out shooting. It maintains the richness in a persons voice while providing stunning off axis rejection.

If I could have just one microphone for video work this is it! Good reach, short. quiet, well controlled side lobes, clean enough for all indoor work. It has traveled with me for 4 years, has some dents in the grille, but keeps giving the same sweet sounds as when new.

This is a excellent shotgun. The off axis noise rejection sold me when I was on the floor at NAB 2010. I bought one and sold my 416. I have used this mic on the beach. No Wave sounds! Only when I pointed in that direction.

I'm using this mic for Indy features... It's great because it's good for both indoors and out... Also seems to be able to get rid of annoying noises better than most mics.
