If what you're carrying needs to arrive intact and functional, then eventually you'll realize that you should have bought a Pelican case. Tough beyond what you'd expect, secure and roomy, it's the case you buy once and never worry about again. I'm using mine to haul special electronic equipment around, and I don't worry about checking it in luggage or tossing it into the back of a pickup truck in the rain. The stuff inside stays dry and safe.
The only problem I have is that I forgot to buy a replacement foam insert for it when I changed the contents over to a new device - it was not that big a deal to re-order foam for it. It's also not lightweight - you'll build some arm muscles hauling this around, but I don't mind that too much.

As a DP with travel-ready, camera, lighting and grip gear, I own about a dozen pelican cases now. They're great, well-designed and superior to the competition. My only real criticism is that their personalized nameplate service should be cheaper, at least on volume.

i purchased this because i wanted to be able to check my computer and video (gopro) equipment and not worry about it getting damaged.

I have 6 gopros in addition to, i dont want to think about how many, mounts, mini tripods, adhesive mounts, etc... for those cameras. They take up the space of one pull and pluck layer of foam. They (the gopro gear) are the layer on top of the "permanent" bottom foam layer. I then cut the other pull and pluck layer in half (depth wise) and created a space to carry two laptops or one laptop and one video projector.

This lightens my carry on load by A TON and i dont have to worry about any of my stuff getting hurt.

This is a large case, it is suitcase sized. (what i would descrice as an old style suitcase). BUT it clips onto the carry thing on my garment bag and my large carry on bag (TUMI). So it is very easy to carry around for me.

If i was going to carry just it i would buy one of similar footprint but with wheels.

When checking this as baggage i have found i like ziptieing the locking areas (where you would normally put a lock) so that even if all the latches come open the case cannot open; i have had up to two latches be open after a flight. TSA, THUS FAR, has been kind enough to re-ziptie the lock areas after their inspections.

A normal TSA lock wont work because they tend to be far too small, BUT pelican makes one that works, i just ordered those so i havnt tried them out yet.

another great thing is that i can bring this case on boats and not worry about my gear. I store all my electronics in pelican cases because you can stack em, drop em, leave em on the deck (direct sunshine not withstanding) and not worry about em.

a note on weight, obviously these cases weigh a good amount, but with two laptops, a projector and my gopros it is under 40lbs, so i have had no issues with the airlines as of yet.

I would suggest this product to any and all looking for a large, relatively shallow, case to protect their gear.

I transport my Alien Bee 1600's in this case. It is hands down the strongest most incredible case I have ever purchased and I give it my full confidence that it will protect my gear wherever I go! You can't beat a case like this for the price. Most would say that the case is heavy and bulky but when it comes down to it it's heavy and bulky not just because of the equipment inside but because it is meant to withstand almost anything......for a case this strong I wouldn't expect it to be very lightweight. I couldn't be happier with my Pelican 1600 :)

I use this case to carry around my Alien Bee 1600's and it is awesome!!! It's super sturdy and I feel that I can put full confidence in it's performance. I loved the fact that it was easy to customize the foam in just minutes! I can't think of anything I don't like. Sure it's a little bulky and can be heavy but shouldn't we expect that out of a case that can withstand almost anything?

I use this for video equipment. Pelican cases are by far the best investment for your gear.

I have two of these cases. One is 7 years old, the other brand new. Slight differences in design, but that's to be expected. Both are great.
The padding inside allows for objects of any shape, and provides plenty of room for quite a bit of gear.
While I've never had a full scale test of how much abuse they can take, you can be sure that your equipment is going to be well protected

Great construction. Strong latches, with two additional on each side. This is a large case, but it's large without being too large. Anything bigger needs wheels. This case holds and protects a lot of equipment. Can be locked with two padlocks. Sealed against weather entry. Automatic pressure compensation.

Perfect size for the seven assorted lenses and three camera bodies I needed to safely store. This is the third Pelican case I have bought as my equipment list continues to expand and I haven't been disappointed yet.

Completely customizable.
Pretty sure I could drop this from four flights and my equipment would be just fine!
The only thing I would like to see added to it would be wheels...when you add all your equipment, it can get quite heavy to carry around.
