Questions? Ask our experts:

The Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye is a full-frame fisheye auto focus lens that fills the entire 35mm negative with a full 180° diagonal field of view. This unique lens enables you to create a variety of unusual compositions even when shooting ordinary subjects.

The improved DG lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, which is a common problem of digital cameras, and also creates an optimum color balance.

Since most Digital SLR cameras use a smaller image sensor size (APS-C) than 35mm film cameras, 180° angle-of-view cannot be obtained with APS-C digital SLR cameras. With those cameras only the center part of the frame is used, therefore, peripheral distortion will be very small.

The super wide angle of this lens makes it ideal for use with digital SLR cameras, providing a focal view of approximately 23mm. Autofocus on this lens is not supported on Nikon D40 or D60 cameras.

Accepts removable gelatin filters in a holder near the rear of the lens
Optical material used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass

I am using this lens on a D700 and lovin it. I shoot a lot of performance and people shots and I have always shot wide. I had a Tokina 11-16* for my D300 but when I switched to the D700 my 17-35 Nikon(my basic lens) wasn't always wide enough. This lens is fun and sharp. It will focus almost twice a close as the Nikon 16mm and is solid, a oz. heavier. I didn't know if I wanted to try this lens or not with all the reviews from D700 shooters complaining about the lens not being full frame. When I ordered it I realized they hadn't removed both pieces of the lens cover. The cover will come off as one piece or two, a little wierd but saves you a buncha extra bucks. Buy this lens if you are shopping for a diagonal fish eye.*By the way that Tokina f2.8 11-16 is a great lens for you DX photogs. I got mine used from B&H.

The lens just did not do what I expected on my full format Nikon D700s. Perhaps the fault was mearly in my expectations. However it also seems very light weight in construction compared to my other Nikon lenses. The pull off ring required for the lens cap was cumbersome when I am dealing with multiple lenses and cameras.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

My first fisheye, there is a bit of a learning curve to it.The lens is tack sharp at the center, focuses fairly fast and is light weight. I use it in family beach portraits (I live in a tourist town). Adds a new look to my photography for not a lot of money! I love it! BTW: This is my first non-Nikon lens.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

Good performance. I usually purchase Nikon glass but chose this lens to go with an Aquatica Underwater Housing due to smaller size and therefore smaller port size for the housing. Took it for a test shoot today. Happy with it.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

I always wanted to try out a fisheye so I rented the Sigma lens and I liked it enough that I bought one. It's small, lightweight, auto focusses well and it's sharp enough. You wouldn't likely use this as your every-day walking around lens, but the unique perspective a fisheye gives opens up some interesting creative possibilities. It's fun to make those prototypical bulging pictures of people and things - for about the first hour. The real fun begins after that, when you can use the fact that straight lines going through the center of the lens stay straight, to get some landscape and interior shots that otherwise couldn't be done. You can get really close with this lens, and it is so wide that pretty much everything in the frame is in focus on most shots. You do have to be careful to keep your feet out of the frame and watch how you hold the lens so you keep your fingers out of the frame, too. 15mm is pretty wide. It's also critical to make sure the camera is dead-level (or whatever other angle you are trying to achieve) because of the nature of the fisheye distortion - straightening out the horizon later doesn't produce the same result as shooting level. There is a learning curve to using a fisheye, and I'm still learning. I've gotten some pretty good results "de-fishing" the images using the Fisheye-Hemi plugin and PT Lens. All in all, an enjoyable addition to my toolkit. Glad I bought it.

On full frame dslr this is a true fishy fisheye! Slightly softer than the Nikon 14-24 zoom but the tradeoff being the great clichéd perspective

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

Before going 100% digital I shot Nikon F5 35mm film camera. I had a full complement of Nikkors including the 16mm 2.8 fisheye. When I went digital it was the APS-C cropped sensor that made the fisheye pretty much useless. So I sold it. Now, I am once more full frame with a D600 and D610. I wanted another fisheye and since it won't get the hard use of my other lenses and based on the B&H sales person's recommendation, I went with the Sigma which is considerably less expensive. As has been my long-time experience with B&H, the sales person was correct that the images are comparable to the Nikon. I am not suggesting that the Nikon and Sigma would be equal on an optical test bench. I am saying that in "real-world" photography, I don't see much of a difference. The Sigma is sharp, fast, and has the distortion you would expect of a fisheye lens. Some of that is mitigated by keeping the horizon centered in the frame. It is a fun lens and is surprisingly handy for candids in, say, a crowded space.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

I like it so far, but you have to love fisheyes and know how to take advantage of them. I found it nice for doing midnight panoramas and stitching them together. Lightroom will also do some corrections to make the pictures rectilinear, but you also have to keep in mind the angle at which you hold the lens is *way* more important than a longer lens. i.e., sometimes you also need to do vertical adjustments in lightroom as well. But this is typical of wide/fisheye, not of this particular product.

The lightness is really nice as well!

It *IS* difficult to focus on stars, however, due to the wideness. This again is a problem with the focal length, not the product.

It can also be nice for macro-like pictures as the focus distance is pretty short.

I will probably still eventually buy a rectilinear prime or zoom that will take filters. (This one doesn't.)

This is a fun little lens to play around with. I'm impressed with the sharpness. I had expected softer edges. So far seems built solid.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

I used to shoot underwater with the Tokina 10-17mm and the Nikon D300, but when I upgraded to the D800, this lens is the way to go. Recently on a month long cave dive trip, this lens performed flawlessly. I was shooting between f.8 and F.5.6, and the shots are incredibly sharp. While I miss the zoom capability of the 10-17mm, I recall I always had it set on max wide anyway. 15mm Sigma is the way to go underwater!

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

Until this purchase, all of my lenses have been Nikon. I was hesitant to go with Sigma. But, nearly all of the reviews led me to believe that the Sigma fisheye was at least equal to the Nikon fisheye. After shooting with this lens for the past month or so, I am very impressed with it. It's razor sharp. And, it's small and light...very easy to bring along to every photo shoot. It has opened up a whole new world of creative compositions for my photography. Highly recommend.

If you need a 15mm 2.8, this fits the bill at a reasonable price. Build quality seems very high. IQ is very high at this price. Focus speed is is not fast, but doesn't need to be. For sports establishing shots and occasional wide specialty shots, this is the right lens at the right price. You can spend more, but no need to.

Comments about Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Lens for Nikon AF:

I am using this fisheye lens with my Nikon D800 and 35mm SLR. This Sigma 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens is very similar to Nikkor 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens. Personally, I am not a big fan of Sigma lens. But I think this Sigma fisheye lens is as good as Nikon's if not better than. This lens is as sharp as Nikon's fisheye with a closer focus distance but less expensive than Nikon's 16mm fisheye. I especially like the front cap of this lens. It is far better designed than Nikon's fisheye lens. It is well attached to the front of the lens and very easy to take off. I would strongly recommend this lens.
