Nikon 2-Year Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for Nikon Coolpix Digital Cameras
This Nikon 2-Year Extended Service Coverage (ESC) for Coolpix Digital-Camera models is offered through Nikon U.S.A. and becomes valid upon the expiration of the Nikon U.S.A. Inc. limited Warranty that was included with your camera and provides the coverage specified below for a period of two additional years. During the period of your Extended Service Contract (ESC), repairs resulting from defects in material or workmanship will be performed at no-charge by Nikon Inc.
Note! This warranty can not be sold to the following states: Florida, Virginia or Washington.

If the camera is worth buying the first place it is also worth protecting. With the Nikon Extended Service Coverage you get another 2-years of warranty service form Nikon and for a low price too. Nikon Service is top-notch and has won many awards for its excellent customer service. I've had to send a few items to them for repair over the years and the repairs were always done fast and the product always came back looking as good as new.
I bought this along with the Nikon Coolpix AW100.

I carry it in my pocket to snap pictures of opportunity. I like the resolution, image stabilization function, HD video recording ability, and ease of use. I worry about losing the cover for the USB port but my least favorite function is the zoom control. It is hard to zoom slowly to get the framing you want.

I haven't had to use a Nikon extended warranty, but I know some folks that had them and were glad they did. I know others that didn't have an extended warranty, and the cost for the repairs (that would have been covered under an extended warranty) far exceeded the cost of what an extended warranty would have cost. It is cheap insurance to protect an investment.
