The Crane SLSN Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Nikon allows a shoe mount flash to be mounted onto any device featuring a 1/4"-20 screw. This adapter is specifically designed for Nikon Speedlights that feature the "locking pin", e.g. SB-800, SB-600, etc.
Made in the U.S.A.
Note! This model allows the flash to be positioned with the auto-sensor facing the subject.

I use my Nikon SB800's in all sorts of ways, on and off camera. I have found that most off camera mounts are metal, and will short out the flash. I also don’t like the way the grip the flash head. This flash shoe by Crane is great, screws into any ¼-20 thread. Light stick, light stand, super clamp, anything. Slide in SB800 and lock it down, it has a pin hole that accepts the pin from the flash so it won’t slide off. I have about a dozen of them for all my shooting styles.

I read the reply that this is intended to break before your flash shoe breaks, implying that it breaks "pro-actively" as insurance, but this is a little misleading. This thing breaks REALLY easily... I mean REALLY easily. I bought two of these less then 2 months ago. So far I've only used one of them, twice now. I used it with a manfrotto stand adapter, threading this shoe onto the manfrotto adapter so that I could put my sb800 on a stand (Matthew's smaller stands... a 7' lightweight aluminum stand.) With the stand collapsed short, I laid the stand/flash down on the floor... the flash end of the stand went down first and before the flash tilted forward (as it already does naturally, I'm talking about the adjustable angle) the crane adapter snapped on one side. We're talking a pretty small amount of force here... not "my stand fell over"... NO... I SET it down as I would normally... and "click" done. I was hesitant to try these because of the one review which states "easily broken"... thinking "hmm... that guy must have been hard on his stuff"... but nope, these ARE very easily broken... VERY easily. If they were another 1/16th of an inch thick through the sides and on the top section that holds the flash down, they'd STILL break before your flash was even close to breaking... but as they are... these adapters are just ready and waiting to break... so instead of even getting so much as a smudge on your flash, you'll be out a bit of kit that you needed that day. For a professional, this is unacceptable. Even if you were risking a small nick in your flash... it's still better to have that then be caught with your pants down from an overly protective breakage. If this adapter is used on a bracket, or something else where there's no chance of ANY degree of "leverage" then it may hold up... but if you want this to hold your flash behind a softbox, or on top of a stand, you better treat them like lightbulbs and just have a few spares ready to go... OR consider something else. I'm going to get the manfrotto flash adapters and drill a pilot hole to grab the pin on my sb800. If this was a little beefier I could accept the logic here, but if somebody gently bumping into your camera rendered it useless for the day, would you take it on a professional shoot? Well... that was my experience with this adapter and hence my 2-stars. The thing fits the flash, but lasted only 2 actual hours of typical professional use.

This works great with the Nikon SB-800 but it's extremely overpriced. I could understand paying maybe $10 or even $12, but this is currently listed for [$]

This is the only cold shoe I can find that is designed for Nikon speedlights with the locking pin. It is convenient and secure.
Several other brands have proved to be unsecure.

Finally, a mount for the Nikon strobes that will utilize the locking pin! So much easier than the clamp type. i did break one though, as my umbrella blew over in the wind this didn't hold up...but that was 3 mounts ago, since many have blown over but didn't break.

Comments about Crane SLSN Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Nikon:
I was pretty excited about this product until today. My SB-900 was mounted on a stand using a Photoflex Shoe Mount Multi Clamp and when I moved the stand, the flash and clamp flopped forward (the swivel wasn't locked tight enough) and when it stopped, the Crane adaptor broke and the flash went crashing to the floor and came apart. The concept is great, but the materials are not strong enough for the required design. It might work with a much lighter flash, but not the heavy ones. I don't trust the rest of the adaptors I have from Crane and will be looking for something else.

Comments about Crane SLSN Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Nikon:
I've purchased three of these and all three have crack either partiall or completely at the thin top part of the shoe with very low usuage. The one that didn't completely break off leaves the flash wobbly and untrustworthy for continued use.

Comments about Crane SLSN Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Nikon:
If you plan on using multiple speedlights this adapter lets you mount it to any tripod. It has the hole that allows the flash to lock in place and is made of non-conductive material. I leave mine permanently mounted on my Manfrotto 3 pack travel tripods. It is a much cheaper solution than all the other adapters and works just as well if not better.

I have several of these and like them. The only advice I have is that the thicker foot of the SB-900 does not work with it...I got it on, but almost could not remove it. Nikon has changed the thickness of the metal on the SB-900 foot.... but on pre-SB-900 flashes, it works great!

Comments about Crane SLSN Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Nikon:
I have multiple flashes that I'm always relocating on various stands, adaptors, etc. I install one of these on all of them (except on camera) when I'm using wireless flashes (since you don't need the contacts anyway). This way, my contant moving around the flash doesn't wear out the delicate pins and connections at the bottom of my sb800/600/900 flashes. I have other brands, but this one is the best. Also, its plastic, so it won't short out any pins if the flash is on while disconnecting. Works great.

Comments about Crane SLSN Flash Shoe Mount Adapter for Nikon:
My plan was to use this with either an SB26 (Nikon) or FL50 (Olympus) flash. Not quite! The hole for the locking pin was slightly off from where it needed to be, and neither flash mounted securely.
So -- another advantage for plastic construction: this can be easily modified. I drilled a new hole where I needed it and now both brands of flash mount securely.
I like the idea that, in the event of a disaster, this unit will break before the flash foot does.

I had heard these worked with the SB-900's. Several cold shoes will not fit the new Nikon flash. These will work but you need to file them down for a smooth fit. They do work well with the SB-800 as well.

The product worked like a charm until it broke! The two side pieces that hold the flash in place broke off when my lightstand fell over on a location shoot...not good. I don't believe this would have happened had the part been made of metal, not plastic. Going for the Stroboframe Cold Shoe this time...

Shoe looks great and fits perfectly my SB-600 - unfortunately it does not fit my SB-900.
Merchant response: The piece is designed to break under the circumstances described. The alternate would have been substantially more expensive damage to the flash foot.
