This is one of the best purchases I've made in quite a while. I am constantly on the lookout for a stable tripod that is extremely light. I do all of my video and photography in out-of-the-way villages in West Africa. I simply cannot and will not carry a 10 pound or 20 pound tripod. Gitzo and Manfrotto make extremely nice tripods, and I have one Manfrotto tripod that is small and light and compact, but it does not compare to this one. This one is featherlight and quite compact, and seems perfectly durable. It attaches without any trouble to the tripod hole in my cameras. I am using very light digital photo and video cameras and this tripod is more than adequate. I have no idea how long it will last, but at such a low price even if it only lasts one season I will be happy.

I was so glad and could not wait to use it first time (as an alternative to a heavier and larger tripd) at my son's game. But even before the game start, as I just mounted my video camera, the neck broke of when I tried to extend the legs while holding it at about 60 degree (instead of straight up)--the neck could not even support my 1.9 lb camera, and totally broke off on me.... Very frustrated.... Too bad I have already discarded the original box... But I still want to give it a try to see if it it's still returnable w/o the original box since it was just purchased a week or so ago and still have packing material on the tripod itself.

Comments about Sony VCT-R100 4-Section Lightweight Tripod with 3-Way Head:

I was excited to find a lightweight tripod for my new Sony NEX 6 camera. I thought I had the perfect combination, until I realized that the tripod didn't have a quick release lever. I tried screwing the camera to the tripod & couldn't get it to attach. Then I tried to attach the tripod to an old Manfrotto quick release ballhead. That didn't work so I went to the hardware store & was told that the tripod screw was 1/4" and the Manfrotto ballhead's screw hole was 3/8". I called B&H Photo & after 3 transfers, I told them I was going back to the hardware store to have them measure the screws & holes again.
I did find a possible solution and will order an Oben Reducer Bushing that I found on B&H's website, if the hardware store confirms that it will work.

Comments about Sony VCT-R100 4-Section Lightweight Tripod with 3-Way Head:

Solid construction, compact design, but for some reason, it's a lot smaller than I imagined. Fully extended it only comes up to about my waist, so taking family portraits is out of the question. To be completely honest, I don't know what this tripod would be good for, maybe taking pictures of nature and the such, but even then you have to bend over to check your view finder. It works for me because I'm using it to record a video blog and the whole thing sits on top of a table, so it's much higher. But if you need a tripod for videography and whatnot, you might need to look at something larger.
