I use this Photoflex Film Changing Room to load up five Jobo's film reels with Kodak Professional E100G, E100VS or E100GX slide films at a time.
It's large and comfortable enough for me to do five reel of films at once then load up the drum, lock on the lid while the scissor, empty film cartridges and opener tool in the there. This product is cost effective and exceptional.

Two stars for a great concept. I am not aware of similar pop-up bag on the market!First of all, the bag comes with a big warning - "Not tested to be light proof". Make sure to test your bag with a piece of photo paper as instructed before you ruin a roll of film. Secondly, the original bag that I received and the replacement were both faulty. The inside bag seems were torn apart in both instances (bottom right corner where zippers are). Considering the pop-up design and pressure this puts on the fabric, this does not look like a bag I want to trust with my films! This could be just a bad batch, but also a lousy QC by Photoflex! My best advice is to inspect your bag [...]

Comments about Photoflex Film Changing Room (25 x 22 x 15"):

I bought this for developing my own B&W 120 still film at home. I could see also *potentially* using it for 16mm motion picture film, but it would be a back-up or emergency use only. I previously used a Harrison Changing tent, which is admittedly a better-made product, and the shape of this cube is a real departure from that, but so far it has done the job, albeit a bit more awkwardly.

So far I have found it to perform the utmost necessity just fine: being light-tight. However the elastic on the sleeves doesn't inspire confidence, and neither do the double-zippers, which are a bit hard to manipulate at times. We'll see how long they hold up.

For my needs and the way I prefer to load, the shape isn't ideal. I see why the sleeves are on the sides of the cube; though a bit counter-intuitive for me. It is overall deeper instead of wider, and the biggest drawback is that the bottom does not sit flat. It "bowls" slightly and invariably everything kind of ends up in a pile in the middle of the bottom of the cube. I don't find any advantage to the height of the cube, it could be 10cm (4 in) shorter in height and still be roomy.

It is VASTLY more affordable than a Harrison tent however, which is a BIG plus, as shooting medium format is already an expensive hobby. It is lighter weight than the standard tent, but given the construction, it's collapsed size is still rather large compared to the traditional tents that ROLL up into a stuff sack. However the working size is a considerably smaller footprint, which is adventagous for home use or travel.

Overall this was a good purchase, it was a gamble not going with a product I was familiar with instead going with this cube. For me, It does the job, and others may love it's design compared to tents or bags especially.

Better than film handling bags

By FilmFan

from Madison, NC

Comments about Photoflex Film Changing Room (25 x 22 x 15"):

After using standard film developing bags for a few years I ordered the Photoflex film changing room. Easy set-up, no light leaks, and much better handling of film (35mm and medium format) due to the tent character. I had no problems with the position of the arm sleeves after placing it on a lower table. Good price for a functioning product. Highly recommended.

This was exactly what I was looking for! Its perfect for changing sheet film in my 4x5" film holders. Plenty of space and the tent is SO much better than a saggy bag.

I have had one of these for about five years. I use it for the large photo them developing tank. Works great and has held up well. It's more comfortable to use if u are able to just plop it onto your lap and lean back to do your work. Table to use can get awkward in body and arm position as the reviews have stated. Very sturdy and worth the money folds up flat for ease storage and pops open easily.

            Comments about Photoflex Film Changing Room (25 x 22 x 15"):

Massively better than a change bag. The structured box makes it much easier to load film onto reels for two reasons :
            1. The air circulation means your hands don't sweat as much, making reels easier to load.
            2. I usually load up a paterson 5 reel tank at a time and this has just enough room in it for this exercise. Change bags just get cramped...

The arm holes have comfortable, soft elastic ends that are much more comfortable than most change bags I have used.

it is better than most changing bags because of the extra room in the tent form. but still it needs some engineering when it comes to the comfort of use. it is really hard to get the second hand in once the first one got inside.

I've used this about a half dozen times now and it works as advertised. It suggests you test for light leaks but as with most things---I just jumped in. Sleeves work fine but if there's someone around I'll have them pull my sleeves over the units sleeves. I use it for loading 120 film. Folds and stores easily. Will it last long? can't say. Great price compared to the options.

Purchased to replace a standard changing bag to load 4x5 film holders and to load JOBO tanks. As others who have reviewed this product I find the arm holes too high and place you in an uncomfortable and tiring position. It has sufficient room but find I can only load 4 or 5 holders before too much moisture is built up and affects the film. My hands and arms were almost running with sweat. (About 10 minutes was the max before I had to stop.)
Working in an A/C room would probably help though. Its made well and no problems with light leaks....it's lite and folds flat well.

The overall use of the tent is excellent; its easy to fold open and close and it doesn't pop back open after folding it. I needed to add rubber bands around the sleeves to add more security when I have my arms in, the cloth covered elastic band is comfortable to wear but not tight enough around to minimize movement.

The product is affordable and the inside seems to be light tight... but the problem is with the cuffs on the sleeves. They are not tight enough. They feel more like a sweatshirt rather than a tight "cut off the blood flow" cinch. And there isn't a second one in case the first one fails or in case you have thin arms.

I used it with films from 120 through 8x10.

                                Comments about Photoflex Film Changing Room (25 x 22 x 15"):

I checked it in a dark room after letting my eyes adjust by putting a big, bright flashlight inside, zipping it up, and putting my arms in and then shining the light all around at every little spot. It is possible to get some minor light leaks where the sleeves go over your arms. I would advise putting a fat rubber band around the sleeve to help avoid this, or perhaps have a black sweater on and after putting your arms in, have someone else pull your sweater sleeves over the sleeves on this changing room.

Also, if I put the flashlight right up near the zipper area, even though there are two zippers, I can see a little bit of light coming through in places. The zipper area doesn't seem sealed enough. I don't know if this would let enough light in to seriously fog the film. But it might be advisable to put something additional over the zipper area like some duct tape, an opaque cloth, or something else.

Also, it is a bit difficult to expand and collapse it without feeling like you are going to rip something loose. I am worried that after expanding and collapsing it a number of times, light leaks will appear from the stress.

If the design had a flat bottom and if the arms were not placed so high up it would be a lot better.
Need for a flatter bottom: this contraption rocks back and forth because the bottom is curved. That does not help when a person is trying to keep things in their place.
High Arm Holes: sitting at a normal table with normal chairs makes the arm hole position awkwardly high. A person will definitely need a stool that sits up higher than a typical chair.
I would barely recommend this product because it is better than having to create a completely dark room and it is slightly better than a changing bag that does not have any structure to it whatsoever.

                                              large format photography.

my old photoflex changing room is now somewhere in Europe, so i decided to buy new one. as the one which i've bought two years ago was really good. i used it during my trip without any problem. this new version is pretty cheap and poor. used springs are too soft. also fabric for inside bag looks worse than in earlier version.

                                              * I recently started doing large format film photography. As well as B&W film photography for school. This comes in handy especially for the large format. If it wasnt for the portability and its compact size I would have to make a trip to school every four shots. With the changing room all I need to do is pop it up on my trunk and change the used film into a light tight box then reload my film holders and carry on shooting.
                                              * Good things are its portability, great price for the amount of use it gets.
                                              * I would like to see an extra liner around the outside. This way if the outside tears on a the surface then I dont have to worry about it compromising the tent being light tight. Also I have seen tents that have this same size however the arms are on the sides giving more space to work in the middle.

The main usage Is to change 4x5 sheet film when a darkroom is not accessible. It's big enough to get the job done I have changed up to 8 negative carriers at once with two large (50-100 sheet size) sheet boxes. You can only use it you about ten minutes at a time (well atleast me) because it is no ventilated and my hands get very moist.
