A speed ring is required and not included with this unit. Remember to get the best type of speed ring for the light you are using. If you plan on using it with multiple lights we recommend the adjustable speed ring.
This is a Photoflex LiteDome Q39, Small Softbox , 16 x 22 x 13" (41 x 56 x 33cm). Photoflex makes a wide variety of softboxes for use on your strobes or hotlights. LiteDomes and MultiDomes are for use with strobes only. SilverDomes and HalfDomes may also be used with hotlights. All Photoflex softboxes require a Speed Ring Adapter, which must be purchased separately.
Choose a softbox according to the size of your subject. For example, a small or extra small is appropriate for a head-and-shoulders portrait, or a very small still-life such as a paperweight. A medium softbox is good for a half-length portrait of an adult. A large is suitable for a group portrait of 3 - 4 people.
Choose a softbox interior color for the lighting effect you want. White is the most universal, giving the most softening effect. Silver gives a little more punch and crispness. Gold (with the MultiDome only) adds that punch, with a warmer tone.
Note:Provide ample ventilation when using flash heads that have modeling lights. Do not use a modeling light higher than 300 watts with a LiteDome or MultiDome.

Comments about Photoflex LiteDome Q39, Small Softbox , 16x22x13" (41x56x33cm):
This was my first softbox purchase, so while I don't have anything to compare to, I also had zero experience with lightboxes and had no trouble setting this one up. I love how portable and compact it is.
It does not come with a speedring of course, so you have to do your research on which one to buy to suit your purposes.
I've used it now outdoors as a fill light in the shade, and intend to use it indoors for wedding photography as well. The quality of light is quite nice - very even and soft and wraps well around faces.

I bought this softbox specifically for walking around town doing portrait shoots. It's super easy to set up, easy for my assistant to handle, doesn't turn into a huge sail in the wind, and the results are great! Thrilled to have this in my kit!!

Bought this specifically for location based seniors. It is AMAZING! Really easy to carry hand held, takes 5 seconds to set up, and its a great light modifier. Great for any headshots or just to remove shadows in available light. Highly recommend

It's the perfect size for the still-lifes I usually photograph. I leave it set up in the corner all the time since the overall size is very manageable.

I own a bunch of PhotoFlex softboxes. Although they are less expensive, I have had better luck (longer lasting) with them than their more expensive competitors. I purchased this because my box of a similar size is silver inside and therefore too contrasty (for me) in most situations.

Purchase along with ADJ. SHOE MT. to XS-LITEDM CONNECTOR and BASIC SPEED RING f/EXTR SMALL LITEDOME to fit into my Manfrotto light stand. Great quality. Very well made and it looks very secure and durable. Decent size for head shot portrait but I use it for outdoor fashion which fits me good for now. It gives a very good soft and diffused light by my sb-900. It may drop down half or a full stop of light but its still very strong. I need to zoom my SB-900 all the way down to at least 24mm in-order for the light to fill the whole soft box. Its not a big deal I think every soft box works that way. Its a great piece of gear.
